We already have seen this lack of forward compatibility in several updates to V1, so for instance many files created in v1.10.x cannot be opened in earlier versions because the file created in the later version included some feature not supported in the earlier one.

Just out of curiosity (although we'll find out soon), will the files open with both versions/branches? Rather, I assume that a file from the 1.x branch could be opened in the 2.x branch, but probably not the other way around. Running two branches at the same time could thus be tricky, as the user could inadvertently make data files inaccessible.

In theory yes but since this will be the first version of V2 you'll probably want to keep V1 installed until it (V2) has proven itself to be able to handle all the old V1 files customers have created - probably wait until V2.1 or V2.2 if you can, and when opening an old V1 file do a save as to a new file just to be sure it saves correctly.

    Correct.
However if you can spare the hard drive space you might be best served by keeping version 1.x.x around in case you need to work with, oh let us say, me who only has version 1.x.x and has no plans for upgrading to version 2.

Have a look in the resources section of this forum, plenty of gradients for free there.

I looked up the Logitech Mouse mentioned above and dropped it into my Amazon shopping cart.  Thanks for that recommendation.
Despite the shortcomings described above (no scroll wheel, no physical buttons)I've been using the Apple Magic Mouse for so long that I'm very comfortable with it, but if if this 'flicking' around on the screen continues to be an issue, I will consider switching.
I have started laying out my book with Affinity.  The first attempt more or less worked, but there is a lot of refinement to do, and probably better to move on to this questions.  Next week. Y'All have a nice weekend in the meantime and thanks for making this forum such a valuable resource.

I gave away my Magic Mouse which I disliked and replaced it with a Logitech MX Anywhere 3 for Mac which works perfectly with Affinity and everything else. It also works on the arm of my chair, on my sofa, on my t-shirt when I'm lying on the sofa, on the clear glass coffee table... as you can see I'm not much for desks. It's also nice to have a real scroll wheel.

When I heard Affinity Photo, it was years ago and it just for my luck was in -50% sale. It was no brainer to pict it up for 25 € price tag.
Then when Affinity Designer was released, I waited some time and it came as well in sale for -50% and I picked it up. It is my least used Affinity app, as I prefer for many things in Inkscape.
Then when Affinity Publisher was released, again picked up in -50% sale. It is great when you need to do in horry some PDF's, but many ways I still prefer Scribus for layout.
But what I dislike overall in almost all PDF layout apps, is that they are not fully compatible with all features that Adobe push to PDF format. Like example interactive PDF creation is severely lacking various levels across alternatives to Adobe Acrobat.

Anyways, I am going to upgrade all Affinity apps to v2.0 ASAP, just to show more support for Affinity, as I have benefitted so much using their software.
And almost what ever they are going to release (or just announce) on 9th for new.... I likely get it.

The Teaser video was very well made. Exactly what such should be about.

You paid 50 bucks for a software that you can use it as long as you like without any additional cost … yeah, sounds a lot like Adobe …

But you benefitted from those updates because they are already included in the version you bought. You are no worse (or better) off, as far as the version(s) of the software you have now is concerned, than those people who purchased it years ago and had to wait for the updates. (Or, to put it another way, you do have the updates, but they were included when you purchased the software, compared to when it was first sold.)

I apologize for the wrong choice of wording. English is not my native language and I am not a perfect person. I did edit my reply so now it reads "...free updates...".

I do not know you realized, but you just gave away (reading between te lines) that it is the Affinity Suite. By the way, I am happy to buy brand new licences again. We had free updates for much too long.
Affinity  always worked out for me despite some shortcomings. It let me do things which otherwise should be impossible for me. So whatever Serif will come up with, I will not be disappointed.
I am looking forward to 9 November! I want to thank the whole Serif team for an excellent work they did and still do!

I'm just wondering what the reason can be for not paying for the product directly to the developers who develop and maintain the app (and therefore deserve to be rewarded for a job well done), but rather give the money to someone who is not involved in the development and maintenance at all, only benefiting from its dominant position and does it mediate sales?

Aren't they integrated enough? You can even open one of the apps inside another of the apps. And the file format is the same for all of them.

Absolutely, the current programs need still need all the attention.  I want Affinity to build on the unique capabilities that set it apart from the beginning and make the current tools both revolutionary and first class.
If Affinity were to get into video editing, it would be playing catchup for years when there are already excellent free tools available in that space.  It would require enormous investments.  I would rather see those investments going to making the existing apps the best in the industry.

For an upcoming animation in 3D I needed blinds for in a kids room. I made a sketch of two loving sheep on paper and vectorized them in Affinity Designer which I now use on the blinds in the 3d scene.
    Sleep well kids 😀

For me, it just arrived about an hour or so ago. From that, I gather they are not sending the email to everyone at the same time -- either that or my email provider is just a bit slower than some others....

By the way, I got 5 or 6 years of free updates in the V1.0 versions, I do not mind if I have to pay full price again. I like the Affinity suit so much and I am relying on it. For me it is far more important that Affinity's future is secured.
