PP and APub are completely different products. You can regret it or not. Serif made that decision and I'm happy about it

Serif have promised to patch PagePlus as long as they’re still selling it if and when Microsoft issues a Windows update that breaks something.
Affinity Publisher is not an upgrade of PagePlus: it’s a completely separate product which just happens to come from the same software manufacturer. For a Mac user and/or someone who wants integration with the other Affinity apps, there’s every reason to buy Affinity Publisher if it meets your needs.

Sunday afternoon, rainy day, I have no excuses, I really have to correct and recreate all those InDesign documents I use for my activity as a freelance IT consultant and that have become obsolete because of the new fiscal rules...
But wait, INDD 2019 is such a bore... and just a couple days ago a client asked me if I could suggest him an alternative to Adobe...
Right, I opened Publisher for the vey first time and set about designing my new invoices and modules... Obviously I first tried to migrate content from INDD opening PDFs and trying copy and paste.
I struggled hard to locate all instruments and procedures that Affinity deviously hid in strange places, different from Adobe standards, but then I started marvelling at how clever and ingenious Publisher instruments are, once I ceased to try to use a new software as an old one I really got going and went from frustration to fun.
I created and easily modified lots of tables and experimented with all attributes of characters and paragraphs, page layout, guides, alignment, everything went very smoothly and I only had a couple minor problems when I started printing and some graphics opened from an INDD generated PDF that on my EIZO looked OK came out a bit faded, after a brief search I found the culprit in the opacity slider in the layers palette and then just when I was wondering why Affinity calls this a Beta finally Publisher started crashing. And kept on crashing, but every time resurrecting the document, until I deleted a text frame that I had pasted from an INDD document, for three times in a row, after adding a few words to the pasted text frame a space bar stroke crashed the application. Deleted the frame, saved as with a different name, everything ok.
Ah I was forgetting, export as a PDF/X-4 don't work, other variants as X-3 and "for print" do work.
All in all a very positive first impression, Affinity is awesome and I have no doubt that I will succeed in helping many clients to migrate.

I'm on Mojave and even Suitcase Fusion 20.0.2 had not an issue activating/ deactivating Fonts to Publisher

Just to be clear: I have no intentions to bash Affinity Photo – I would not spend my time with feedback if I would not see potential.
I believe we all should accept that there's still quite a few shortcomings in this still young suite of programs – even it works nicely on your end. What I usually see when such complaints come up is that fellow users suggest labour intense tests (check how many fonts you have installed / use a fonts manager,  download and run an array of diagnosis software...).

While it's sure meant as a help, such tipps often imply that the user has used / set up things wrongly or that something is fundamentally broken with their hardware (and they only haven't realized yet). Usually however,  these people already have a perfectly valid benchmark: Exactly the same thing works a lot smoother, with comparable software on the same hardware – otherwise they would not speak up.

Affinity Publisher is a terrific, heavy-duty desktop publisher that, as a Mac user, I've been waiting for. I've used DTP applications since the days of Letraset's Ready, Set, Go! Used Aldus PageMaker for many years at work. Now, I've been using Swift Publisher 5 for home use, but it's a light-weight program. I'm so grateful that a powerful, full-featured program like Affinity Publisher is about to premier. Going through Beta 1.7.0.227 is truly an outstanding tool.

Set beside the Photo and Designer icons, the poor Publisher icon looks a wee bit dull, dubious, and dreary.    Rather like the forgotten stepchild in the creative world.    Never mind.   All three apps are brilliant!

There aren’t any silly questions as far as I am concerned.   These beautiful Affinity apps do have a learning curve, and the most beautiful part (I think) is that the Affinity moderators and technical support staff are here to answer anything and everything with such helpful pointers.    Many other people with several  years experience also reply in these forums with helpful solutions.    So ask away in these forums if you need help!    I have learned so much this way!!

    @Gaffer
Welcome to the Serif Affinity forums
Sorry, but we do not tend to report on progress of features (at least not until those features are in internal testing, which this is not). Affinity Publisher when launched will have a certain set of features (most likely all of the features currently in the beta and some more to be added to the beta before release) and at that point we may make a roadmap available of other features that will be added in free updates.
Perhaps so, but that does not mean we can complete it quicker than we are.

    Dear Affinity Design Team,

I have recently purchased a license of Affinity Designer. I am a beginner in the world of designs but I have started to appreciate the product's cool design and the features it offers. It is easily comparable with Adobe Illustrator. I have a request for you. Please maintain the affordability of the product. Many budding designers and hobbyists are forced to give up their passion due to the high price bracket of Adobe's products. Affinity's products are a welcome relief in this regard. Keep up the good work and enable more and more people to pursue their passion.
    Thanks.

An ugly UI (user interface) is a valid reason to not want to use an application but I can honestly state that I dislike, sometimes to the point of hatred,  all the Icons for all the applications I use most often. Both aesthetically and for more practical reasons. I look at the interface and work there, looking at my work.
There is an application with an Icon which I quite like, yet the application I use has an ugly Icon, I use the latter application because it is a superior product.

jmwellborn got a reaction from Steps in Copy and paste issue between v. 206 and 221
Actually, since we know to be wary, per Patrick Connor's repeated and careful instructions, I have been.   But for fun I tried to copy a full page of text (single text frame and no images) from a several-linked-text-frames document created in v. 206 and paste it into a new (and pristine) document created in v. 221.   The pasted text frame appeared in an elongated and skinny form, but broken into two strange sections, extending above, below, and well within the preset page margins of the new document, with all linking ability removed.    The text frame could be adjusted to fit the new page margins, but it was still broken arbitrarily into two un-linkable sections.  Moral of the story.    Hang on to v. 206 if working on anything within .206, and start with .221 with anything new.    But .221 downloaded like a dream, otherwise, with all systems GO.
    Slick as a whistle!!

jmwellborn got a reaction from Steps in Can’t print Help pages
There is a little icon at the top of each Help page which — when clicked on — offers Print as an option.  But when I click that, I get a print dialog box showing a completely blank page.  I am the sort of dim bulb who likes to refer perhaps more than once to the information on a Help page important to me as I learn new software, rather than searching for it online each time.  A dinosaur, no doubt, but I would like to be able to print.  Am I missing something?  Thank you, in advance!!!!

When I purchased the full edition of CS6 InDesign I was not allowed to receive a DVD.  Had to download the software.  When I tried to transfer the software — using Time Machine — from my MAC with Yosemite, to a new MAC with Sierra, the Adobe software would not honor the serial number for the purchased software.  Adobe would not respond to any and all inquiries about why I could not use my $600.00 or so purchase.  In my book, they are shysters.
