  1. Neat little video!!! Looks as though “the consultant” didn’t check the box “Preserve width” when setting the 5 columns. Seneca has it checked and the columns and gutters are identical.
  2. Command + A. Also looked at Preferences>Shortcuts. Command + A. Just doesn’t work. Tried all that before I wrote the entry.
  3. Cmd + A doesn't seem to like my MAC. Never mind. The workaround works. When I am in a very expansive mood, I will try Walt's Paragraph Styles defaults. So far, I have left "styles" for last. But my 302 page transcription of an 1823 "history" book running from page 1 to page 302 without a section or chapter break, with 5 footnotes, a bibliography of 2 entries, and an index of 23 lines, is now safe to enter in its PDF version into the commercial Publisher version -- when ready. I had made a 2-column, 54-page index for this particular book, and was NOT a happy camper in the "if all else fails" department. Thank you both!!
  4. Well, blow me down! (As Popeye used to say, I think.). The curse worked. I tried enlarging the tiny dot by zooming 800% and it was still a tiny little dot. Clicking on the text tool got nowhere. But I changed to the Move tool, poked at the little dot, and then opened the Character Panel. Yup. 2 pt type. So I enlarged it to 16 pt just for laughs, and BINGO! An index. Did all that before trying your Cmd+A solution. So I will do a Save As (something else) on this thing, and then try your method. Thank you! The men in the white coats have vanished.
  5. Oh, THAT tiny little dot. My word!!!! It is so tiny that I didn’t even see it. Tomorrow I will have to try the thing again with a zoom level of about 8. Thank you. I was ready to check myself in to the men in the white coats. After all, “tomorrow is another day,” said Scarlett O’Hara.
  6. Not me! I use Apple products only, and am already a huge fan of Affinity Photo. Affinity Publisher is going to be equally wonderful. I am willing to bet that in a few years it will be another Apple product of the year. Meanwhile, it still has a few growing pains, but a wonderful group at Serif who are ironing them out at the rate of knots. I cannot wait to buy the very first commercial version and will be very happy to see it grow. Meanwhile, I am delighted to have an already very workmanlike replacement for InDesign and their extortionate price gouging. Hooray Beta!
  7. But HOW did you get the index inserted in the text frame? That is the problem.
  8. I may have lost my mind, but something seems to be missing -- either with me or with the Index panel, or with TEXT>Index>Insert Index. I made a very tiny set of index entries from a document, using the Index Panel, and the Insert Marker icon. Worked. Then I went to the bottom of my document, added a new page, drew a text frame, and clicked on the Insert Index icon in the panel. Nothing. So I went to TEXT>Index>Insert Index. Got an Affinity Message explaining that I cannot have two indexes in one document. So I put all of the index entries into the junk box, and started all over again. But just clicked on the Insert Index icon in the panel. Nothing. I have looked at the Publisher Help, and am still as foggy as before. (By the way, trying to work with the Index panel yesterday, I had a crash. Using MAC Sierra. Going nuts.
  9. I suggest you start a new topic in the Bugs in Publisher section of these Forums.. Either Bugs for Mac or Bugs for Windows. That way, the developers will be able to help you right away. They may miss your entry here, and it would be a shame. They should be able to get you up and running!!
  10. Oops. I clicked on the wrong thing. Please look below!!
  11. Don’t give up the ship on Publisher yet! When you first see the workspace, it is pretty daunting. But the first thing you might try is to go up to the very top, left-hand corner of your workspace, and click on the words “Affinity Publisher”. You will see “Preferences” and if you click on that you will get some choices. There will be a little box marked “Tools” with an arrow beside it. Click on the arrow and scroll down to “User Interface.” Then you can change your screen from Dark to Light. (At least I hope these are all the right words. Doing this from my iPad.). For me the easiest way to find my way around was to have a lighter screen. Black is rather intimidating. Then when you start trying out the various tools, use the command HELP up at the top where you can enter questions. It isn’t a complete HELP section, but it is very useful just the same. And don’t forget EDIT>UNDO. There isn’t anything you don’t want that you can’t get rid of. If you stick with it for a while, I’ll bet you start thinking about writing family stories, etc. to go along with those pictures!
  12. I am also on MAC OSX Sierra. Wireless printer. Printing works perfectly. But it must be maddening for Fixx.
  13. No pain here now! I’ve got the commercial Affinity Publisher right around the corner, and am learning it with the betas. Love it!!!!!
  14. AND the InDesign CS6 serial number. And when I entered the serial number I got a “tough bananas” message. I gave up on those rotters years ago.
  15. Do what I did, when I upgraded to MAC Sierra and lost InDesign CS6. Before the upgrade I saved every InDesign file I would ever need again as a PDF, and then “waited for developments.” And here is Affinity Publisher, which handles those PDFs like a dream. Import them, and save them in .afpub and you are on your way!
  16. I used Pagemaker for years for my 1200-page monthly publication, then InDesign for a few more while writing books based on historical research, and then one book while floundering hopelessly through iPages grim and extremely elementary interface. I cannot wait until Publisher is commercially ready so I can begin re-editing several LONG books using this lovely new publishing software and completely redoing the iPages clunker. Affinity Publisher has a learning curve, but that is fine with me. There are magnificent options tucked away in the Studio panels and the context menus. Keeps one’s brain from atrophy. Meanwhile, as I chug along with these betas, I am noting all the “bugs” and “suggestions” that relate to my work, and am creating my own Help document, mostly comprised of screenshots of questions and helpful answers. I am up to 103 pages (lots of white space in those screenshots!) and use them to learn all kinds of things it might have taken me ages to learn on my own. Thank you, Affinity, for these forums. And thank you most of all for this grand Publisher-to-be.
  17. Won’t play. I am using an IPad Pro. Think that is the problem? Although I have been able to run other videos in this forum.
  18. Still laughing. Now know what I am doing this Sunday. Yesterday my dog nearly murdered me while I wrangled strokes around text frames converted from shapes. In the end, it was so simple! And as usual, when I had it figured out, I thought “Stupid me. Hooray Publisher!”
  19. Actually, one of the most important changes to the rulers would be if they would look more like the top image in all views. They currently (beta) show long gradation marks in 2-pica increments with lots of tiny same-size gradation marks in between. This means many zooms to 400% to place guides where they need to be, especially for books with many images. Still, WE HAVE PICAS, which is absolutely wonderful!!!
  20. V. 145 updated perfectly from v. 140. All previous settings, preferences, docked panels, and default font settings right there where they should be. I opened several files, fiddled with them, and saved. All perfect. Thank you!!!
  21. Thank you!!! I am so glad that this will be fixed in a future beta. Meanwhile, "patience is a virtue." As usual, you Affinities are splendid! Gentlemen and ladies par excellance!
