We are just very fortunate that you are spending a late Saturday checking up on all of us! Can't see Adobe doing that!!!! Thank you again! -

US English, but I didn't know that the Assets Studio was missing along with the Symbols Studio. I didn't look for that. -

That is truly weird. I definitely opened the panel, but I didn’t try creating a symbol in v. 249. I’ll give it another try tomorrow and see what happens. -

I still have it. Just checked in v. 249. View>Studio>Symbols. All present and accounted for on MAC Sierra. -

Several beta versions back (around October or so) there was a Symbols panel available in the MAC version. I used it successfully. Haven’t checked recently, so I don’t know when it apparently vanished. Odd. -
Crufts 2019!!!!! Is this a 5-star recommendation for the Inpainting Brush Tool or does your dog really stand that perfectly, long enough to get the shot? Whatever it is, it is a perfectly gorgeous shot and a thoroughly elegant best friend.

Out-of-order page numbers in Index
jmwellborn replied to afdojo's topic in [ARCHIVE] Publisher beta on macOS threads
Further on this numbering thing, I removed the page number fields on the master pages and saved the document. I have just reopened it and placed the page number fields again on the master pages. This time, all spreads are numbered correctly! Very strange. -
Out-of-order page numbers in Index
jmwellborn replied to afdojo's topic in [ARCHIVE] Publisher beta on macOS threads
I am having the same type of confused page numbers, but with another situation. I had page number text frames (or whatever they are called) on a master page. I then created a document with facing pages, and started with 10 pages. I am not linking text frames, but putting separate images with small unlinked text frames as captions on these pages. All the page numbers appeared correctly. But then I inserted a new 2-page spread after page 4, planning to keep images in chronological order. The new pages were numbered in reverse order, and all subsequent spreads had the numbers reversed - left side odd, right side even. I think this is something new in v. 249, because I inserted pages in a different document in v. 238 and they came in correctly. -

Didn’t notice he was asking about the iPad. Stupid me. Always a good idea to read the fine print first! -

Have you tried Preferences>User Interface? Perhaps the light option, with adjusted sliders, will help? -

Did this come by UPS, FEdEx, or Amazon? FUN!!!!! -
Try this. Go to View>Studio> and then check Find and Replace then look at the panel which shows your master pages and pages. You should see something like this. Then go into your text frame, enter Command + F, and this popup menu will show up. The actual Find/Replace operation is working beautifully. Hope this helps.

Text Wrap Issue
jmwellborn replied to RenWaller's topic in [ARCHIVE] Publisher beta on macOS threads
Not a problem as far as I can tell in v. 249. I opened both a document previously used in v. 227 and 238 and then a new one in v. 249. It appears to me that while the two previous Beta versions had the View>Studio>Text Frame box unchecked for Ignore Text Wraps, the new Beta v. 249 has that box checked as the default. I tried a sample using both checked and unchecked. I think that may possibly be the solution? Here is what I did. -

Correction. Imported the document from v. 227 to v. 238. No problems with either version. Now I need to try v. 249. -
Text Wrap Issue

I haven’t tried text wrap with the latest version, but placed 66 images into a document with v. 227 and successfully used text wrap for them all without any problems. I will try the latest version today. I am using MAC Sierra. -
1.7.0.227 Autoflow Broken?
jmwellborn replied to J.L. Forrest's topic in [ARCHIVE] Publisher beta on macOS threads
Whoopee!!! Looks as though auto-flow has taken a Great Leap Forward!! I have just been fiddling with a document originally started in a several-betas back version of Publisher, and opened successfully with each succeeding beta. When I moved it from v. 227 to v. 238, I tried to add several pages of text within the document, and as noted above, had not entirely successful results. I have just downloaded v. 249 and did the same thing to the document last opened in 238. EUREKA! I inserted text within the document, which flowed properly, and then added it to the end of the document, which also worked perfectly. The one thing I found is that correctly linking the text frames of new pages within the document is still a bit of a struggle. Linking those at the end is flawless. -
If I may, a few excerpts from your comment. It seems a wee bit hasty to confine Publisher to the ash can of history when you have only given it a few days. And by the statement that "judging by forum comments" others are unhappy, I can only mildly suggest that you might have been a wee bit selective about the comments to which you refer. There are so many people who have been contributing on a daily basis to these Publisher forums since the first Beta was announced back in August 2018, who have found it to be really exciting. And they have provided countless very helpful solutions to potential confusions that those of us who were not as familiar with the Affinity applications may have had. As for me, I compiled a 123-page personal "Publisher Help" document early on, based on "how to" solutions I found in the forums. Naturally not all of us are wedded to a particular previous software. Many are disgusted former users of InDesign. Many apparently were happy users of Page Plus. As for me, I am just glad that there were brilliant young people, back in the days of stone tablets, who thought that parchment might be more portable. Or that handwriting might be slower than the printing press. Or that MS-DOS could stand some improvement. And that there was a Steve Jobs who thought the same thing. And that Affinity recognizes that those of us with MACs and iPads may want something exciting to work with too. I may be a dinosaur, but I am finding Publisher a pure delight to work with, even in its Beta, and am already reaping the benefits of its close integration with Photo and Designer. It is just my opinion, but I think the Affinity developers are not only quite a bit along the right track, and not only incredibly brilliant but also -- and even more important in this strange new world -- incredibly helpful, consistently knowledgeable, and unfailingly courteous. Can't wait to purchase Publisher!!

1.7.0.227 Autoflow Broken?

Apparently they are busy with other stuff. But I do hope they can get to this, because it is definitely a problem. -
1.7.0.227 Autoflow Broken?
jmwellborn replied to J.L. Forrest's topic in [ARCHIVE] Publisher beta on macOS threads
So I tried the thing in v. 1.7.0.238. Same issue, but in a different location. I opened the .afpub document created in v. 227 and saved as a copy of the original 66 pages, expanded to 72 in v. 227, plus several embedded images properly text-wrapped, and began adding more embedded images with text wrap (on purpose, because I wanted to test how much v. 238 could take before "crashing" as some people have stated). I reached the spread for pp. 66-67 and discovered that two pages of text were unaccountably missing. What belonged on p. 68 was now on p. 66, and the balance of the document was neatly text-flowed to the last page. I inserted two new pages after p. 65, and they turned up as pp. 73-74. So I deleted those two blank pages and tried again. This time I did get the two blank pages between the spreads 64-65 and 68-69. I inserted text frames directly on the two new pages 66-67 (not using text frames in the master pages) and attempted to link them to p. 65 and p. 68. After a very tedious struggle, I managed to unlink the new p. 67 from p. 72, etc. and finally had all of the pages properly linked. I went back to the saved copy of the document from v. 227 and copied the two missing pages of text. Then I tried to paste them at the proper place in v. 238, just before the two new blank pages with linked text frames. Again, instead of the material flowing in as expected, it was pasted on top of p. 65, with a completely different size text frame, and much text outside of it. I had to move that strange text frame over to p. 66 and then cut and paste, bit by bit, to get everything back to the way it should be. But even though everything still showed as linked text frames, those two pages of text are sitting in the middle of the document, unable to be moved back or forth to previous or future pages. I tried placing an image and text wrapping, just to check. Nothing doing. The overflow just vanished instead of appearing on the next page. I am sorry if this isn't a very clear explanation. There is surely something I don't understand about pasting from one .afpub document into another .afpub document. As for the rest, the only other strange thing that happened was that although I had page markers on the master pages, and each document page with the masters applied, three right-hand pages, #45, #5l, and #53 did not have page numbers on them, but an uneditable frame with blue x-marks. I had to delete Apply Master to each of these pages in order to get rid of the block and insert page numbers manually. Anyway, these are niggling problems. It is a small family history this time, not a thumping 500-page volume, and it has turned out beautifully. It started as a PDF from an InDesign production, saved as an .afpub in Publisher, and then laboriously pasted without format, page by page into a second new Publisher document, where every line return was manually removed and every text frame was manually linked. From that point it was reformatted, new paragraph and character styles were created, 67 images were edited in Photo and placed, etc. At image 66, Publisher very politely suggested that I had rather a lot of embedded images and wouldn't I like to consider linking them? But when I said no, it went right on working. In fact, except for the odd problem described above, it was a delight from the start to the finish. And for those who say that Publisher can't handle long documents, I should state that the first iteration of this "book" was 6.3 MB. The final version is 42.2 MB and Publisher was just getting started. There was never a crash or a blip other than the insert-pages, lost-stuff issue which I was able to work around quite handily, and usually I had Publisher, Photo, and Safari all working at the same time, plus firing off and printing screen shots of something historical I needed from the internet. Hooray for Affinity!! Hooray for MAC Sierra (which I was strongly advised by the Apple technical types to keep, if it is working well -- which it is.) I couldn't be persuaded back to Adobe for "all the tea in China," as they used to say about a trillion years ago. If there is a glitch somewhere, I hope this helps. Can't wait to buy the release version!! Need to spruce up those icons on my dock!!
