  1. If you consider having both Designer and Photo you will be amazed at what you can do!!
  2. @Nany welcome to Affinity! In your message you state that you are new to Photo. The screenshot looks as though you are trying to find the filter in Designer. Not at my computer, but could that be the problem?
  3. Don’t know if this will help, but this is what I do. Select the Picture Frame Tool (either the rectangle icon or the ellipse icon with the cross mark inside) and drag out something the size you want on your canvas. Then go to FILE>Place and select the image you wish to use from its location (in Mac it is possibly Finder>Pictures). When you find your image and click on OPEN, your image should appear inside the picture frame with the cross mark, which is on your canvas. You can then use various adjustments available to you.
  4. Oh ho! I managed to get to the tutorials with that link, rather circuitously. Thank you so much for the direct link. Going to bookmark it myself!! Sorry, @alecia!
  5. Hi @SF Charter Boat ! Just in case @h_d does not find this last message, just go to FILE>Save As and then give your document a name (i.e. boat in harbor) and chose your destination (ie. Desktop). Your file will be saved in .afphoto format and all of your layers, adjustments etc. will be saved along with it. I have learned a lot from this thread too!!
  6. If you can find some sky images that you like, you should be able to use the information above to make any adjustments that you might wish. Oops. I should have included your quote first. Anyway, hope this may help you.
  7. You should post this in the section of the forums “Customer Service . . .” Probably with a topic heading about requesting a refund. Serif does make refunds if the request comes within their established time window. Meanwhile, should you reconsider, having Publisher as well is really superb. The StudioLink ability between the three apps is simply wonderful, and the “dreaded round trips” are a thing of the past.
  8. @Pattou Once upon a time, a long time ago, in a land far away . . . There was an enchanted forest. At least your lovely picture suggests that something magical will emerge from those misty trees. Such a wonderful imagination!!
  9. @firstdefence Thank you so much! Your video is a wonderful explanation and I really appreciate the time you took — and your kindness — in sharing your expertise. Torn paper isn’t the only thing that will materialize from knowing how to do this. Again, thank you.
  10. I clicked on the first of the two websites included in the original post under this topic. Strange.
  11. I got a full-screen message informing me that I had to set my browser to accept unknown cookies, or else. Decided it wasn't a very good idea, and declined.
  12. @firstdefence How did you get the fill inside the torn paper image and the really crisp perimeter? I tried using a rectangle shape, filling it with the color of the paper image, and then using the selection brush too to cut out the strip, but with decidedly dodgy results. Here is my grubby attempt.
  13. This text ruler problem has been randomly recurring since last year when we were in the initial betas. It happens here too, on a purely random basis. Recently less frequently, but still the only solution I have found is to save and close the document, then open again. Usually that solves the problem without having to restart the app. No matter what, it is a little unnerving.
  14. It was. They were underwater wire-guided missiles. Precursors for all sorts of good stuff.
  15. For me, bats are an acquired taste — which I have not yet acquired. But hedgehogs. ..... !
  16. Reminds me of a group of maintenance men, many years ago, who hopped on the back of a rocket we were going to test at an engineering facility where I worked. “OK, boys! We’s off to the moon!!”
  17. I have stored gradients I have created as styles. Probably a good idea to create a new Styles Category before you start (i.e. My Gradients). You place a rectangle shape, fill it with the gradient type and color(s) you want, then with that gradient layer selected, go to the Styles Panel, select your new category, then click on the hamburger icon at the right, and choose Add Style from Selection. You can then apply that gradient to anything you want - text, shapes, etc. at any time. Also, you can export your gradients to a folder to back up your work, and to import your gradients into Photo, Designer, and Publisher Styles Panels.
  18. When I zoomed in on the sunrise this morning I found this tiny commercial airplane up there all alone in the clouds. By deploying the selection brush tool and some refinement I managed to get most of the fuzziness out of the airplane's edges, and was left with this. I had to export the airplane as a PNG and then clone brush the original image to get rid of the original fuzzy airplane, and then place the new airplane back in, but all in all, I was amazed at what I could do with Affinity Photo. Wish I could figure out how to make the airplane perfectly crisp!. But I do love the watercolor look.
  19. Have you looked at your Text Frame Panel? If there is a check beside “Ignore Text Wrap” then uncheck it. You should be able to wrap text then, after you highlight your image layer.
  20. Magical. There must be a children’s book in there somewhere!
  21. (Well, it was actually yesterday, but I extracted a part of your original post. ) Does this happen with every page, or is this an isolated incident? If isolated, I have a one-time suggestion. Why not replace your paragraph break (Return key) for the last paragraph before the white space, with a line break (Shift+Return). This will treat the next paragraph as a continuation and should fill the page, but should avoid the large white space. Worth a try?
  22. I tried to open this file with Quick Time Player without success.
