I am on my iMac now. Should be the same process with Windows 10, I think, for text. Here is what I did. I typed the text, using the Frame Text Tool, then reduced the Text Frame to the smallest possible amount do that there isn't any extra unused space around it. Then with the Text Frame Tool, highlighted the text I want to save as an asset. Then went to the Asset category (or subcategory in your case) and clicked on Add From Selection. Because my example is in a large point size, only some of the text shows as an icon in the Assets Panel. But I then dragged the asset onto the canvas and the entire phrase was there, just as it ought to be. If you use a small point size (i.e. 11 pt or 12 pt type) your asset will appear as a very tiny little line of type in the Assets Panel. It will still drag out to the correct size. Here are examples of what I did. The right-hand image shows the type-asset from the assets panel dragged below the same type entered directly in Publisher. Will this help?

Welcome, @grahamm7 ! Perhaps the video is older? I am on my ipad right now, but I think I remember that originally one could drag the selected image on the canvas to the Assets panel to create a new asset. If you will highlight the image (either click on the canvas or on the image layer), then go to your Assets panel, choose the category you want to use then click on the little icon with three lines immediately to the right of the category name, and choose Add from Selection (at least I believe those are the right words), Your image will appear in your assets. It is definitely a good idea to copy all your assets into a backup folder. To do that, choose an asset category (such as My Stuff (🤔) and then go up to the hamburger icon at the TOP of the Assets Panel, click on that and choose Export Assets. On MAC that sends you to Finder, where you can open a new folder or choose an Assets folder you have already created. That way, if you want to store most of your assets outside Publisher, in order to keep the app lean and mean, you can always open your Assets Panel, repeat the process, except this time click on Import Asset. Hope this helps.

If you have not already received an answer from the Serif support staff, you might post your inquiry into the Forum section “Customer Service . . “. Someone should be able to help you to get up and running!

Glad to see the Publisher workbook is on its way. Preorder is done! Thank you. It is going to be a huge help (like the other two workbooks) in showing others how these wonderful apps work.

@anolddog Welcome to the forums. Since one of the links @Dan C has given you included much regarding difficulties making the JixiPix plugins work properly, I thought you should know that JixiPix resolved the issue and all of their apps have been updated to work perfectly with Affinity Photo. Hope this helps in case you were feeling slightly queasy! 🤢

Welcome to the Forums, @Ciccio! I believe that you may be a bit confused with the word "design." Affinity Designer is not primarily a publishing app, as InDesign is, and does not include text linking properties. If text is your main concern, you might wish to download a free trial version of Affinity Publisher. It has the function that you are looking for. I have attached a screenshot of how your VIEW>Studio>Text Frame will look in Affinity Publisher. Hope this will help. Although you might want to have both apps!! ☺️

Discussion on Affinity Suite for macOS 1.8.6 release
jmwellborn replied to Oval's topic in News and Information
It was such a nice surprise to see Ash speaking on two separate occasions during the Apple online presentation this week! Hooray, Affinity! -
@Mithferion this has been an incredible amount of work on your part, and much appreciated! I particularly hope that new Affinity users will find your posts here in the Resources forum.

@Epakcor nice, but is the pilot missing from the airplane in the foreground?

Congratulations @StuartRc on your lovely Fish being featured in the latest Spotlight! It was such a pleasure to find it there.

@Anon Bingo! Worked perfectly per your excellent advice. I duplicated the pixel image, left out the Group stuff, dragged a shape I had made and saved as an asset, made it a child layer of the duplicate image layer, set the blend mode of the shape layer to Erase, then added a Levels Adjustment layer as a child layer to the duplicate image layer, adjusted the Output White Level, then highlighted the child Shape layer, and added the Gaussian Blur. Done. No fuss, no muss, no bother. You have saved my joie de vivre. Looks the same when printed. Herewith, the experiment as testimony. Thank you!

And why, might we ask, is Adobe -- the hotshot best thing on the planet -- offering a 50% discount for next year? Because they are scared silly about the competition from Affinity, perhaps? If 1,000,000 former Adobe captives move to Affinity, that represents approx. $240 million loss of revenue. Hardly chump change. My bet is that the Adobe corporate types see trouble ahead and are grasping madly at any way to keep the captives on the plantation. And as more and more people work from home, they may possibly find the monthly rental a bit much. Meanwhile, it would seem that there is room for both on this Earth. If people like Adobe best, fine. No need to try to disparage the other half's preferred apps, as some in this thread (and others that pop up from time to time) do. Vive la différence!!

@Stuart FR Thank you so much for the glorious palette! Until one sees it, it is an educated guess at the intricacies of your colors. It is so very kind of you to share it. Pity we can't all share your artistic ability too!!!😷

Affinity Photo and Jixipix Plugins
jmwellborn replied to chaleco45's topic in Feedback for Affinity Photo V1 on Desktop
Yes. They work seamlessly now. I have Watercolor Studio Pro and Impresso Pro. Affinity to JixiPix to Affinity to JixiPix without a hiccup. They updated their plugin files last week. @Don Spady if you are still having trouble, send an email to support@jixipix.com and ask them to send you the latest installer file. -
Wonderful colors!
