  1. Oh what a relief!! 👏. Now the driver can find his way following the poles. Which I have actually had to do once when out on a mesa in Arizona and once in the desert in Far Off-Istan. Night view is a keeper!
  2. @Deboss Welcome to the forums 😊. I found the same thing that you did. The Rain, Snow, and Rainbow overlays by Paper Farms all loaded into the Assets panel perfectly with appropriate subcategories, but the Fog bundle comes in with the subcategory "Assets" as you described above. I have also noticed in @lionel bessou's screenshot that his Asset Panel does not seem to be open. If this is the case, he can go to VIEW>Studio and scroll down to the bottom to see whether Show Left Studio has a checkmark beside it. If not, if he will check it, the Assets Panel will reappear on the left of his workspace. He should then be able to scroll through the assets to find the four sets of overlays. Hope this is the rest of the solution!
  3. @Steven0100 They are both wonderful. Love the distant lights in the farm houses. But where are the telephone poles in the night version? Looks as though that truck driver is out there lost in the back of beyond!!🤔 Good thing he has those trusty headlights!
  4. @lionel bessou welcome to the forums 😊. I have downloaded and successfully installed the same four bundles of assets in my Macbook Pro, Big Sur, M1 chip. Did you find an asset category for each of these but couldn’t see any assets in each category? If so, that is because they don’t show well on either the light or dark interface. If you will click on the Asset Panel hamburger and change the setting for one of these categories to Show as List, and then point your cursor to the top of that window, a descriptor text should pop up. At that point, try dragging that area of the asset panel over to a colored area (such as a filled rectangle) on your canvas. Hopefully you will find some rain, snow, fog, or a rainbow, depending upon which category you chose for the experiment. Each bundle includes a pdf file which includes black and white images of every asset in that bundle. I have printed these because I couldn’t see anything either but I have them all the same. I hope this helps!🤔
  5. Welcome to the forums @Jim57 😊 I am also using the light UI, and tried the dark interface for these same overlays. It didn’t really make much difference. So I downloaded the pdf file that came with each of the bundles and printed the first pages. They show a much larger black and white version of each image (overlay). It is much easier to choose the right one. Hope this helps, although I like your slider idea.
  6. Welcome to the Forums, @Equuis😊 Have you tried VIEW>STUDIO>LAYERS and does Layers have a check mark beside it? Or you can go to VIEW>Studio> and scroll down to the bottom and is there a checkmark beside Show Right Studio? Hope this helps. By the way, that is a charming colt.☺️
  7. You are not losing it - just update overload! The two "Flip" icons were available in Designer (mine certainly as far back as v. 1.8.3) either separately, or as part of a "Transform" group of icons that you could include in your Context Toolbar. Now we have them in Photo as well, with v. 1.9. Nice!
  8. @hanshab do you have Time Machine? If so, can you go back to a previous version of Photo? If so, your macros, assets, etc. should all be there. Just a thought, but Affinity has a 50% off offer for several more weeks for all three apps. Two years ago I deleted my Mac app store version of Photo and repurchased it directly from Serif, to fit nicely with Designer and Publisher which I bought directly from Serif. It was a good move on my part. The new v. 1.9 update from v. 1.8.6 to Photo on my Macbook Pro has worked beautifully, and so far has nary a glitch. Haven’t updated the other two apps but will in a day or two.
  9. Thank you @v_kyr ! Something more to fiddle with when all else fails🤔
  10. Welcome to the Forums @Wm Connolly😊 Your design says so much with such minimalism. Perchance are you depicting the staff at Serif, after a lo-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-ong three days sorting out the unexplained insects that have appeared from no-where in v. 1.9 after some fantastic Beta 1.9's? Surely the next few days will sort everything out. 😱
  11. @Rick G You have to be really tricky. I found the new cat tool in the 1.9 Betas, and promptly went to my desktop v. 1.8.4 and made an asset out of the old cat tool — one of my favorites. I have him saved forever.🤗
  12. I was led astray by the "iOS" into erroneously thinking you meant Mac. In the email that Affinity sent to us, if you scroll down far enough (in fact to the very bottom) after clicking on Learn More, you will see that these overlay packs are for Affinity Photo. They don't mention iPad (iOS) so I would have no idea how they would work. Hopefully someone with experience using Photo for iPad can help you. @firstdefence? @Alfred? Help, somebody?
  13. Welcome to the Forums @Bob Cresswell😊 I have just downloaded these overlays to my updated V. 1.9 MacBook Pro, using the My Account button on the Context Toolbar. Ver'r'r'ry hard to see. So I checked My Account, clicked on the Manage Account Button, then the Downloads & Products Keys area (per @markw's advice) and then scrolled down to 20 Fog Overlays as a sample, clicked on the little icon, and was given a screen with two options: One was "Overlays (afassets)" with a download of 843MB, AFASSETS, and the other "Overlays (png)" with a download of 55.MB ZIP. When I clicked on Finder>Downloads there was the zip file. Double click on that and it opens to show individual png files. This should work for each of the new Asset groups. You can then scroll down in the same screen to the Resources part, and you will find a downloadable PDF User Guide. This shows each asset in detail. Below is a partial screenshot of the opened zip file in Finder. Hope this helps!
  14. And she can also change the interface from dark to light which is much easier on older eyes as a general rule.
  15. Welcome to the Forums, @SLY 😊 Possibly with a few more postings you will be able to change your avatar. Perhaps you will be able to find some interesting posts in the Share Your Work or Resources sections that will elicit honest comments from you. 🤗
  16. @v_kyr Amazon doesn't do it justice. Think I'll just look at @adeloco 's post.😊
  17. Having gone through the cataracts business myself, I think you will find any iMac lovely to work with, particularly with a Retina screen. One of the downsides about a developing cataract is that it changes the actual colors that we see -- often putting a yellowish cast on every color. The Retina screens will definitely brighten things up, although no matter what computer you use before you do have your cataract surgeries, you may want to check with actual color charts to be sure that when you are choosing a lovely shade of something (you think) you are actually getting that shade (values in RGB, CMYK, etc.) and not something slightly off. There are probably loads of places to look, but I have found a "List of colors" ( A-Z) on Wikipedia that will show you what I mean. Good luck with your new machine, whatever you choose, and stay out of the hospital if you can!! 😊
  18. @adeloco where do I buy one???? 😍
  19. My Beta versions of Photo and Designer are not having this problem at all, using Big Sur v. 11.1. I haven’t updated to v. 11.2 yet. Nor are the retail versions 1.8.6. This is obviously a random issue which Serif is working hard to resolve. I would suspect that every developer of Mac-compatible software is struggling right now too. The nice thing is that Serif is hard at work on it and we will all surely benefit in short order. To quote an old saying “Patience is a virtue.” But then, there was also the old saying “Virtue is it’s own reward.” 😷
  20. Welcome to the Forums @IngridHardy😊 If you haven’t yet purchased your Mac versions of the apps, you might consider purchasing them directly from the Affinity store, versus the Mac app store. Same 50% discount applies. Some users have found some annoying Apple-related issues (not exclusive to Affinity apps) that slow them down. You can find discussions of these in other topics on these forums. All my apps came from the Affinity Store and they are as smooth as silk. Don’t be terrified of your new Macbook. You will be whizzing along in no time flat!!🤗
  21. Welcome to the Forums @laROQUE☺️ I have just tried exporting from Publisher to PDF using the (for Print) option on my Macbook Pro with Big Sur and the M1 chip (see specs below) and have had no difficulty at all. The first time I opened an existing PDF document with several pages of text and images in Publisher, fiddled with it, then exported it as a new PDF (for Print) with the Area set at All Pages. Worked perfectly. The second time I created a New document, inserted some text only, and exported it as a PDF (for Print) with the Area set at All Spreads. Worked perfectly. I am using Publisher v. 1.8.6. I did not launch Rosetta.
  22. @CaroleG If you can happily afford it then I would buy the new iMac with some advice from Apple Tech support about which to purchase, depending upon what you want to use your computer for. You may find that a 27” inch screen is overwhelming, and choose the 21” screen. Or you may find that 27” is perfect (depends upon your eyesight issue) but that you don’t need the faster chip for your needs. But if eyesight is a problem, you will probably find that a Mac Mini is not that much easier to read than an iPad, even though you may save the planet at @Oval’s suggestion. The reason for buying new is that you will have outstanding telephone tech support from Apple as you get used to your new machine, which is quite different from an iPad. And if you decide to throw caution to the winds and buy an even newer Desktop when the M1 chip comes out in a year or two, you will undoubtedly qualify for a nice trade-in from Apple. As for age, many years ago my father gave me the best advice I have ever received: “Enjoy each day!” And I guarantee that you will really enjoy Designer on your new iMac! (Ps’s’st — you would love Photo too for its possibilities for your greeting cards.)
  23. Welcome to the Forums @Bobzilla.😊. All three apps — Photo, Designer, and Publisher work beautifully with High Sierra. Hope this helps!
  24. So sorry. It's just a cold, rainy or snowy or just plain awful (depending upon where we are all living) part of the year, with almost 11 months of Covid-19 lockdown, waiting for a vaccine, masks, distancing, and other fun things going on in all of our lives. Yes, this topic has strayed left, right, and down the middle, but you should see how some topics meander!! 😲 The important thing is that we have been offered some excellent solutions and I -- at least -- have learned so much, as usual from trying the solutions people have offered. I am currently getting ready to work on @firstdefence's explanation of how to create the shadow. Beats staring at the cold, interminable drizzle outside!!! So don't give up on everybody here. So much to learn, so much time (socially-distanced)😣
