This is mine (Windows) which is clearly a lot better than yours. Which to be honest I would consider unusable for me.

If other users on Macs are not as bad as yours, I would check your monitor settings. (Brightness, contrast, calibration, etc)

Mine look like yours in Photo, Designer, and Publisher, on both the iMac and the Macbook Pro.  Methinks the problem lies elsewhere.

All will download. I just want to know if they're free? I only see 2 that are in the store. The rest just shows download.

If they show in MY ACCOUNT as able to be downloaded directly (little cloud icon) then they must be either free or bundles that you have purchased at some time in the past.  If they show a little black Affinity icon then you are directed to the Affinity Store where you will find the status.  Needless to say, if you have previously purchased those bundles you can download them again as many times as you like on devices you own with the same operating systems.

The new upgrade shows a 'my purchases' area. With various downloads. Are those all free downloads? I ask because I don't recall purchasing any of them.

Why not try one of the bundles and see if it downloads to your machine?  On occasion Serif has provided some free content.  Anything that you can successfully install on your machine is probably one of those free  bundles.  They contain some very nice things!🤗

I separate hardware here between private and work usage. - On the MacbookPro for work I've use a much more modern MacOS version, but that machine is mainly for pure company business development tasks and thus first of all running only dev tools and the like (databases, app servers, IDEs, docker ... etc.), so I don't use it for running image or vector apps.

Good move!  I am keeping my two machines separated for the same kind of reason.  The Mac has my books safely on it.  The MacBook is for fun and fiddling.   (Although I am currently finding my Affinity cat assets -- versions 2 and 3, in the depths of my Mac.)  Air Drop to the rescue!!

Then we have to wait until Friday the 13th Aug 2021before there is some chance for a possible showup, or for those in a hurry tweaking the system clock accordingly. - What's about some hidden secret shortcut key to toggle between all those so far used cat shapes? 😉

Maybe a separate section in My Account, just to be sure we are all on our toes (oops -- paws).

For the new 'My Account' function to work the web shop needs to be updated regularly with new content to purchase.....as it stand I cant remember seeing anything new since I came to affinity last April....Do we know if there any plans to do this.

The My Account feature is not an advertising gambit.  It has undoubtedly been designed to help us easily install across our compatible devices items which we have already chosen to purchase directly from the Affinity store.   It is up to us to respond to emails from Affinity, announcing new items or special offers we may wish to purchase.   Or to log in to the Affinity Store to see whether there is something we would like to purchase.   Hope this helps.

The most recent update has a small bug, when exporting to jpeg etc it shows "Affinity" as the file type in the save window, it doesn't affect the actual output though, you still get a jpeg.

Perhaps this is a Windows bug then.  Here is what I get after I choose to export a document, and click on the blue Export Button.  If I want the file to go to the desktop (as shown here) I click on Save, and then when I go to the desktop the file is automatically identified as “christmas-rose-4926141_1920.jpg.

  8. Welcome to the Forums @s jones 😊   When you choose FILE>SAVE or FILE>SAVE AS your document will automatically be saved as an .afphoto or an .afdesigner or an .afpub file, depending upon the app you are using.  If you want to save your document as a JPEG, or PNG, or another format you must use FILE>EXPORT and then select your choice from the popup window.  This has actually not changed from update to update.  Hope this helps.

  9. @Freddie360. This is a new way to reach the sliders popup window for each adjustment.  In the Adjustments Panel, click on the little icon for the one you want (i.e. HSL) and then double click on the first icon below it on the left “default”. The slider popup opens.  This is actually much much faster than the previous LAYER>NEW ADJUSTMENT LAYER>HSL...  and with a little use becomes — in my own opinion — really nice.  Just my opinion, though.  Don’t reboot your computer!!!

Why can't there be a central/shared repository where they can used a previously downloaded content?

@haakoo is right.  The simple solution is for you to make a backup folder on your machine (in my case in Finder because I use a Mac) for each category you may possibly want to import into one or more of your apps — assets, brushes, palettes, styles, macros, LUTs, etc.  Sample:  Affinity Brushes.  When you find/or purchase a bundle that you may wish to use some day, download it to your Downloads folder, then copy it to the appropriate backup folder.  When the need arises, all you have to do is go to the appropriate panel, i.e. Brushes in the app you are currently using (i.e. Designer) and click on the hamburger and choose Import Brushes and select the bundle you want from your backup folder.  You can always Export it back out to your desktop when you are finished and delete it — therefore not wasting disk space — so you will not have an extra copy in your main backup folder.  Your permanent backup folders will be your “common suite of content.”  With the advantage that they can expand or contract at your discretion.

  11. @CaroleG  Good choice!  Although I am not v_kyr  I would definitely follow his advice.  No, you don't have to update from Catalina to Big Sur. @v_kyr is absolutely right!  You are probably getting a little popup update notice about the Big Sur update in the top right of your desktop.  Just click on the LEFT side of that little box, in the little icon at the top left corner, and that will open the Update screen.  Don't be frightened.  Just use your mouse and click on the red dot at the top left of that screen , and it will close.  Periodically you will be pestered by the same notice, but you can repeat the process and hide it until the next time. Repeat.   That same procedure will occur when there are available updates for other apps on your computer, such as Safari, or Photos, or iBooks.  You can always choose to either update something, or ignore it.

If you don't open any web site that your MAC shows as Insecure (you will see that notification where you type in the name of the website if you are using your Safari web browser) you should not need any antivirus software.  If you purchased your new Mac from Apple and ever have a strange problem, you can contact their Tech Support and they will walk you through the solution.  They are very, very helpful.   Just be careful not to open strange websites or those with the "Insecure" notification, and of course -- as you already surely know -- don't open any strange email.  Which has nothing to do with Affinity, or Big Sur, but you will find that your Mac, just like your iPad,  is very good at sorting out Junk mail.😊

Thank you so much !    I feel like an idiot.   After 30 odd years so used to Microsoft I can’t see the wood from the trees.   But getting old and start of cataracts doesn’t help.    But I am a stubborn old goat so won’t give up.   Thanks again - your help is much appreciated!

Hi @CaroleG  glad to see that you have your new Mac!   Don’t feel like an idiot, because there will be several differences as you get used to your new machine.  I switched to Mac in 2013 after decades of Microsoft and also floundered a little for a short time.  And then everything was clear as a bell.  So ask away.  There are so many “old hands” on these Forums who have helped me times out of mind and they will be here to help you too.  So again, welcome aboard!!

P.S.  If you would like to flag your helper’s attention to a reply from you, you can type the @ symbol immediately followed by the poster’s user name (try it with your own) and you will be shown a little downward heading window with user names.  When you reach the one you want, click on that and it will turn up in your comment section highlighted in blue.  That will then flag the person that they have a response.  😊

  13. Welcome to the Forums @coderman.   I don’t have your high-powered Mac Pro but Photo v. 1.9 loads on my 2020 Macbook Pro (Big Sur, M1 chip) in about 1 second — consistently.  I haven’t yet updated Designer or Publisher, being temporarily busy with other things, but the v. 1.9 Betas for both also open consistently in less than a second.  Hardly a bag of bricks.  On my 2017 Mac (High Sierra) I am keeping v. 1.8.4 of each app.  They all open a bit more slowly but that is really my fault, having loaded them to the gills with Assets, Brushes, Palettes, Styles, etc.  Think it might be the old fable about the tortoise and the hare?🤔
