  1. Wow, again. I hadn't a clue what Copy Merged meant, but this is really nice! And yes, the copied selection shows as a pixel layer.

  3. Well I'll be darned! Photo, Lesson One. Good old rulers help too. Just to be sure that the rightward and downward thing works as planned, it helps to plunk the mouse in the crosshairs! I tried @v_kyr's snowmen who look so much better right side up!
  4. Apparently what I am doing is not according to Hoyle, because when I double click on the asset, and use CMD (or anything else) and drag from the center, the asset appears upside down. Double clicking on the asset and placing it without CMD allows right side up placement at any size one wishes. (I have no special shortcuts in Preferences.)

  7. @Gary-ser Here is another way.🤔 Place the image (#1) you want to show through the hole below the image you want to have the hole in (#2). Rasterize both images. Using the Selection Brush tool (or any Marquee Selection Brush) draw the area you want to cut out on image #2, then go to SELECT>INVERT PIXEL SELECTION. Then click on REFINE on the Context Toolbar and choose the Output: New Layer With Mask. You can then move either image layer around to choose which part of image #1 you want to appear in the hole in image #2. You can use the Crop Tool to spruce up the result. (Not sure anybody wants tigers in the middle of a lake!)

  11. Welcome to the forums @Graylien🙂 You are not a halfwit. You are a new wit. There is so much that Photo can do that it is staggering, at the very first. To wit: I couldn’t figure out why the Erase Brush Tool was making all those odd squiggles instead of simply neatly erasing part of some unwanted clouds. Eureka! “It is a brush tool, simpleton” I said to myself, after floundering to no avail. “So find a simple brush.” Do ask away instead of struggling. There are many very professional people on these forums who have helped me again and again. They will be there for you too!

  13. Good news! I opened your file (FILE>OPEN, not FILE>PLACE) in about 2 seconds using my 2020 Macbook Pro 13" with the M1 chip. You should not have any problem at all with your new machine, when it arrives. Just one very important thing. You will find that Affinity Publisher will note any missing fonts, or other missing resources (see the attached notice below). So do be sure that the fonts you have with InDesign are also installed on your new machine. (Sample pages from your .idml document are attached, for you to see how they look in Publisher.) Hope this will reassure you and that you will enjoy the Affinity Suite as much as I do!!

  15. If the little fellow on the lower right has already had a jolt of the magical brew it would explain his befuddled look. It would possibly not be a good idea to give the dragon a chance for more. He could quite possibly morph into a tree (or a fossil)!

  18. Perhaps he will be both. He is obviously extremely intelligent. Just spotted him on uTube playing Mendelssohn’s violin concerto with neither a wrong note nor a wobbly bow. Originally the violin concerto “too difficult to play.”
  19. Superb. I wish Teo had my violin from the years when I was his same age. It was an Andreas Borelli made in 1742 in Parma, Italy. It could laugh, cry, dream, or despair in unbelievable ways. When it went back to the rare violin dealer from whence it came, I understood that Isaac Stern found it and added it to his collection of concert instruments. Teo is brilliant. Now he needs violins that are brilliant too. Thank you for sharing this video!
  20. Welcome to the Affinity Forums😊. The licensing information provided by @v_kyr shows that you can definitely use Photo on both Macs if you meet the terms. There are at least three separate ways to transfer the Photo app to your Macbook Pro M1. If you purchased Photo from the MAS then you can download directly by logging in with your Macbook Pro and opening purchased products. (Don’t know exactly how this works, because I purchase everything from the Serif store.). If you purchased Affinity Photo directly from Serif, then you just log in, provide your account number, and download. Or you can use Migration Assistant to transfer your files from your old Mac to your new Macbook Pro. That is what I did, and it worked perfectly. Hope this may help.

  22. Definitely for something else! But when I discover a perfectly wonderful Asset, I think, "h'm, wonder what would happen if . . ." and your Normal Map Generator and Ambient Occlusion Generator are both humming away over here. Two examples below, both using your Normal Map Generator asset, with some final fiddling with a texture macro I have cooked up for giving letters some depth, and the ancients have nothing on me!

  24. @telemax Thank you very much. This is wonderful! Saves so much time I have formerly spent using overlays and lighting to create wild and wooly styles for use with illuminated text! The beauty of your Normal Map Generator is that color of the finished image can be easily changed from the Lighting Panel even using umpteen gazillion specific colors from Swatches! Oh my! From tans to periwinkle blue in 5 seconds using the Ambient Occlusion Generator!
