  1. @cgott42  Welcome to the Forums!  Perhaps you might try the 30-day free trial of Designer 2 to see the many things that you can do.  Publisher is definitely my mainstay, as I also write and publish books.  For illustrations, I use Affinity Photo, particularly to correct or enhance very old photographs and jpg images of centuries-old drawings and paintings which I then place in my books. The beauty of Publisher is that—if you have them— you can use the StudioLink feature to access Photo and/or Designer directly from Publisher.  It is a wonderful feature!

I am not a Serif employee, so I don't know how long the 40% off sale will last, so I am afraid that I cannot answer that question.  I hope this helps.

im using affinity designer and photo on my my macs and when i check fot update on both of them its says version 1.10.5 is the newest version available how do i get V2?? should i buy new licensees???

Yes, 1.10.5 is the latest and last v1 update.  V2 is not an update.  It is a brand new upgrade with many new features.  If you log on to affinity.serif.com you can buy the new V2 apps —either individually or with the new Universal License— or select the 30-day trial.  Hope this helps!

I cannot use the cloning tool now. It does not seem to work or respond. Does anyone have this issue? I have affinity version 1.10.5 on an iMac version11.6.8. It is a tool I used all the time on Affinity.

Welcome to the Forums!  Are you possibly trying to clone from a layer above your image layer?  If so, have you checked "Current Layer and Below" on your Context Toolbar?  I have just tried it with my iMac, 11.7 with Affinity Photo 1.10.5 and the Clone Tool is working perfectly for me.  Also, be sure to ALT + click on the area from which you wish to use as your source.  Does this help?

  4. @Richard Strange  Welcome to the Forums!  I am posting this because @Old Bruce (who really knows what he is doing!) accidentally missed putting a reference to you in his post.  There have been so many hundreds of postings every hour, since the announcement on November 9, that the real experts are probably worn out answering everything they can as quickly as possible.

I wanted to be sure that you found his post as easily as possible!

Thanks for the advice. I just know I'm gonna buy it especially with the discount going on now (it's a no brainer really). And just because I buy Affinity does not mean I have to uninstall CS6. It's just that I have a routine with CS6 and I'm no photoshop guru so there are features I likely do not take advantage of to this day so it's a bit challenging for me to gauge how feature rich Affinity 2 is compared to the older CS6.

Just at first, because Affinity has so many ways to accomplish a desired result, you may find that the transition from CS6 is sometimes a wee bit confusing.  That is partly what these Forums are for!  Just ask away.  There are many really helpful and extremely knowledgeable people who have helped me so much, and who will be glad to help you too as you become acquainted!  So Welcome again! in advance.

Same here, I literally bought affinity photo for iPad last week.  It’s already outdated and new version is cheaper….

Welcome to the Forums!  If you purchased it from the Mac App Store, you would need to contact Apple for a refund.  The Affinity Store has no information on an individual sale through Apple.   Because you so recently purchased Affinity Photo for iPad, Apple should surely honour the refund. I hope this helps!

Hi. I refuse to go any further with Adobe's subscription and been using CS6 for many years now. I do feel like I'm missing out on newer features and I'm wondering if I switch to Affinity 2, will I be doing an upgrade? Does Affinity have a lot of new features that CS6 does not have and what are they?

    Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the Forums!  There are so many people posting every few seconds that a complete answer probably couldn't come for some time.  May I suggest that you go to YouTube, and enter "Affinity Photo 2" and perhaps watch the excellent video featuring James Ritson.  At the end of that video, which demonstrates many of the new features in Photo 2, there will be links to corresponding videos regarding Affinity Designer 2 and Affinity Publisher 2.  You might be interested in viewing those as well.  Especially because Serif is offering the Universal License that gives you all three apps (plus the same three for iPad) for both Mac and Windows at a really nice introductory price.

I hope this will help you decide!

  8. It would be so helpful if people would actually read all Terms and Conditions when they consider buying something, whether a car, a computer, or some software.  If they don’t quite understand, there is always Google Translate, or Deepl.  But to misinterpret Serif’s clearly used terms of “update” and “upgrade” is not a valid excuse for demanding special consideration.  As for me, I was very happy with v1.  I am even more happy with v2.  There will undoubtedly be many free updates to v2.  And then at some point in time there will be a paid upgrade which will be v3.

Mac didn’t start with Big Sur or Ventura all those years ago.  I now have Big Sur and don’t want to upgrade to Ventura.  But to get to Big Sur in order to access the capabilities of the M1 chip, I had to buy a new computer.  And it wasn’t $100.00.  If people don’t want the wonderful new capabilities of Affinity V2, that is entirely up to them.  But if they do, then it would seem that they might graciously accept the very generous offer from Serif.

Yes you can have both together but once saved in v2 you cannot then open them in v1.

@Yaoifeng welcome to the forums!  As noted in another post:  if you make a SAVE AS for a v1 file which you opened in v2 and give it a slightly different name, you can then close it; you will have a new v2 file and the v1 file will still be available to open in either v1 or v2.  Naturally additions or changes made in the new v2 version will not appear in the original v1 file.

To confirm, are you saying there is an option in the new V2 Publisher to save a file in a way that makes it accessible to V1 Publisher? If so that would be fantastic!

He was explaining that if you open a document created with V1 in Publisher 2, make some changes, then use SAVE AS, giving the revised document a slightly different name, you can close the new document and the V1 version that you opened in Publisher2 will still be available to open again in V1.  Just tried it, and it works.  Naturally, the changes you made in V2 will not be reflected in the original V1 document.

I will probably make copies of everything until V2 has my full confidence.

Makes sense.  For the time being, I am keeping V1.10.5 on my Mac as well in case I need to get into those old files and save them in the old version.  Especially complete book files!  The nice thing about V2 is that we get an immediate prompt when we open a V1 file, asking us whether we want to open it, or make a copy.

Nope.  Not supported in V2 Windows 10 (latest version from Windows Update).  I just tried a couple other jpgs.  And a png.

Works with AD V2  and APub V2.  Not Affinity Photo V2!

Could you check the section for Bugs in Photo2 and see if this has already been posted?  If not, could you kindly post an entry so that the developers can easily find it?🙂

  13. @Mr Lucky  Serif starting sending emails out on November 8, which may or may not have reached you yet.  Or it may have gone to your Junk folder.  Since this is a new purchase, rather than a free update, you might like to visit the Affinity website.  Be sure to look at the Universal Licence option, because it is a wonderful opportunity at the 40% discount price.  I used Photo 2 as an example.  I hope this will help.
