Easily done with the proper use of Master Pages.

Make your document with linked text frames on Master Page Double Page and name the text frames Left Text and Right Text Make a new Master Page, named One Page Blank with only one text frame named either Left Text or Right Text.

Apply the One Page Blank Master page to all pages and choose Migrate.

Oh, so basically you temporary make it facing pages with a proper master page and then turn off facing pages again… 🤔 Yeah, that might work, I'll keep that in mind if I stumble upon it again, thank you. This time I solved it by re-generating the document with the extra page added in the template (was using a data source to generate the large number of pages).

    Well, I, for one, can.

Good points and I understand that there are different viewpoints (that's why I added a "for me").

I do often use APh like I would AD (it's part of the magic of the tight integrations between the apps!) and therefore the move tool is often preferable for me.

But even if the hand tool was what I needed I generally don't like the automatic switching, after many years of using the Affinity products I still prefer to have the current tool stick until I change it manually. So a setting for default tool and a setting for turning off automatic switching would be the best solution for me.

    Haste makes waste?

It wouldn't if the move tool was still selected.

When I have the move tool selected and place an image in a document and then immediately try to move it I'm really working faster than it takes to observe the not-asked-for switch to the hand tool. Yes, the cursor is a hand now, but I'm not looking that closely since I was using the move tool before I'm not expecting it to suddenly change to something that is [for me] always less useful.

I just can't see the logic behind the thinking that as soon as you have placed an image you would want the hand tool instead of the move tool you were previously using.

Absolutely, the current programs need still need all the attention.  I want Affinity to build on the unique capabilities that set it apart from the beginning and make the current tools both revolutionary and first class.

If Affinity were to get into video editing, it would be playing catchup for years when there are already excellent free tools available in that space.  It would require enormous investments.  I would rather see those investments going to making the existing apps the best in the industry.

Improving the current suite is more than enough to make me happy, but the whole "One more thing" at the end suggest something else, right?

I agree that video editing seems like to big of a chunk right now, but som sort of DAM (like an Aperture replacement that a lot of us are longing for) wouldn't be that far off from what they already are invested in with Photo, so maybe they could do that without stretching themselves too thin.

March 8 2022 for Windows and Mac, March 14 for iPad

Yeah, that is the release from the January beta I was referring to (1.10.5), but AFAIK that was only a small bugfix and nothing compared to the previously steady flow of new betas and releases of 1.x with improved features and more, all that basically stopped in November last years. Since then it's all been work towards 2.0 I assume (and I'm very happy about that!).

    Hi guys,
Does anyone know if this 2.0 version will be considered as a new product, hence we'll have to pay for new run of 2.xx triplet ?

Not that it matters much to me, just want to know where this is going. Sounds like the scripts are in the game now and I'll be more than happy to pay for it.

Yes, you will have to pay for the next major version somehow, I think they made that public a long time ago. (And it's fine as long as they don't go subscription, I'm more than happy to pay, their prices are a steal anyway compared to that other company).

(Edit: Oh I see Patrick was faster with an official answer.)

  7. It’s nothing wrong with the ambition to replace the Adobe suit for some of its users, and it’s pretty obvious that Photo/Designer/Publisher aims for Photoshop/Illustrator/InDesign.

That is actually how I use them, and l’ve been using the Adobe products for a long time (all the way back to Aldus Pagemaker days!). But you have to set your expectations accordingly and accept that you will stumble on various WTF:s when some feature is missing or not working as well as the Adobe equivalent.

...well, that's because to talk to their audience many journalists started their articles by asking "Is this app the Adobe killer?" It's a shorthand way of describing the software that has led to the expectations. You cannot blame people for having that expectation when it is used so often to describe it to a new audience

That is clearly part of the problem och the source of a lot of misconception (and disappointment).

Still, some common sense could go a long way, if applied. Like reading what Serif says, actually trying the free trial versions to form an independent opinion, looking at the huge price difference and understanding that Photoshop has been around and evolved for over 30 years.

  9. I think a lot of the negative comments comes from people thinking that the Affinity suite is supposed to match the Adobe suite 1:1, and if that is your point of view then you're bound for disappointment, since it's easy to find areas where the Adobe applications still are better, given decades of development.

But if you just look at the Affinity applications for what they already are, not comparing them with others, it's quite easy to see that they are a tremendous value for the money. Even if you would have to buy them all over again for version 2.

(Also: the Affinity suite already have some advantages over Adobe, the unified file format is genius and deserves all praise!)

I don't believe it! It can't be that version 1 and version 2 are offered at the same time. That would mean that one has an outdated version via Windows Store. A free update to the latest software was always promised at the time of purchase. Moreover, Affinity is not yet a fully developed software.

I will definitely not buy a new 2nd Affinity software!

It's your loss, have fun paying Adobe instead. Even with some rough edges the current suite of Affinity apps are more than capable and the price is a steal compared to the competition.

    Like this?

No, I don't think you understood what the OP was asking for. OP clearly understands that the current text style is selected in the panel, it's just that if the list is long then you have to scroll a lot to find it:

…it requires a lot of scrolling through the list of styles to find the one that is highlighted.

This is especially true if the panel is part of the combined panels and not a big independent panel like you showed.

What I want, and I think that's what OP also wants, is that the panel automatically scrolls to the selected text style for the current cursor position.

Forgot to mention the Text Style shown in the Context Toolbar at the top. ;)

Yes it shows there, but you can't right-click on that to access the contextual menu that you can in the panel. When I work with text styles I use that menu a lot. So the scroll-to-current-text-style is still needed.
