  1. Yeah, I know, and I have Publisher as well (and love it, especially with the unified file format that makes it easy to open in all the apps!), but this should reasonably be in Designer too and not require Publisher. (And I think it will be more likely that users need to set the title differently for different objects in Designer, since it's more likely that they export selections in Designer.)
  2. I wish Affinity Designer had the fields studio panel. Or even better: I wish it was a field in the export dialog, since I often export selections to PDF files in Designer. So I would like to change the title for each export. That is unfortunately not possible in the free version of Acrobat Reader DC, as far as I can tell.
  3. It's funny that we live in a time where people think their pet peeve feature is the only priority the developers should have at a software company with multiple products for multiple plattforms. 🙄 Yes, it sucks that this part of Affinity Designer does not work better. No, people are not claiming that Designer is feature complete and can do everything Adobe software does. No, that does not make the Affinity suite of applications worthless. Depending on your needs they go a long way, but yes there are still features missing here and there. Some of them might even be a dealbreaker. And then there are other features that are way better than Adobe's (the unified file format is absolutely genius and works so well). And if you compare the cost of ownership the value is tremendous.
  4. So, I've been looking around and found this tread, there is still no support for timestamps in export path variables, right? And it is only static values that are not shared in any way between export formats (like, you know, a variable)?
  5. Yeah but release candidates are often numbered indicating that they can increase if needed (and often do) while golden masters are the very final version set to be released and seldom/never numbered, right?
  6. Yes, I really would like to do this too. I hope it's on the internal roadmap.
  7. I know it's an old thread but it shows up in Google searches so: there is a way to view the percentage of original size:
  8. I'm not speaking for Serif, but everything said so far is that opening InDesign .indd files won't happen for now, only .idml files. There are technical reasons for why (as Joachim_L said: ”INDD is a locked format, so Serif has to reverse-engineer it”). If you have so many years of work in InDesign, maybe it's worth buying Adobe CC for a month and export those files to .idml, or buy IDMarkz to convert them?
  9. Let's say your workflow is creating publications that you export as PDF for print or web. And in these publications you embed external PDF's (like ads). With PDF Passthrough (as far as I understand it) you will now be able to let these embed these and output them verbatim in your final PDF. This may sound like an obvious feature to have, I agree, but up until now that was not the case for some embedded PDF's i Publisher.
  10. Have you tried the PDF Passthrough function in the Publisher beta? You can't edit the PDF but at least you can embed it:
  11. This is the year 2020. No. But you if you can export it to IDML then you can open the IDML file in Publisher.
  12. Ah, yes, the white background, it makes sense that it was part of the problem, I actually forgot about it. Supersampling worked well for me this time and I'm happy with the end result of that. (Now that I think about: would it make sense to add a supersampling function to bitmap export? Like a checkbox "Supersample eight times before export" or something like that.) Anyway, thanks for the fast and detailed response!
  13. My workaround for now was to increase the document size massively, copy merged, new document from clipboard so I got a rendered version that looks better.
  14. I've done that now. Also included the PDF that I placed in Photo (probably not necessary, I assume Photo is embedding the file rather than linking it).
  15. Did you ever solve this? I'm having issues with rotated PDF in Photo with jagged edges that I would like to smooth. See screenshot.
  16. Thank you, I've seen some of these issues with incorrect scaling and had at least one hard crash, so I'll try this beta!
  17. Designer is quite nice – especially considering the low, non-subscription price – and for a lot of tasks it can replace Illustrator (or even surpass it; the unified file format with Photo and Publisher is awesome) but there are still missing features (like this one or perspective distort or, until 1.8, expanding strokes correctly) and if one of those features happen to be important for your needs then Designer might not (yet) be for you. Fortunately there is a free trial so you can check that your pet peeve feature works before buying.
  18. Oh, thank you, I didn't know about that command! Works fine for selected text with multiple text styles (but did not work for an entire selected text frame, but that is not a big issue).
  19. Yes! Exactly what I want too! Also: to be able to add more images to this permanent place panel and even drag and drop images from the page to the panel. That would enable a very effective workflow that's not possible today, if you have a lot of images and a lot of pages but you haven't decided which image goes to a certain page.
  20. I've ran into this as well. It would be super useful to be able to clear all formatting of all selected text no matter where the insert point is to begin with, or even all text when a text frame is selected.
  21. Why is it necessary to edit the master page picture frame in detached mode for pasting but not placing?
  22. If you still have access to InDesign you can open and export them to IDML. There's even scripts for batch converting, to find indd files and export them as IDML.There won't be any importer for indd files.
  23. The betas of Designer 1.8 has been public for quite some time and I haven't heard anything about this being fixed there, only the other major issue (expanding strokes), you can read detailed release notes here.
  24. Another +1 on what Ulysses said. Still clinging on to Aperture I would absolutely love to hear if Serif is making a DAM but it is definitely not unfair om them to not reveal their business agenda and pre-announce future products. If anything, I'd advice them not to (not that they need my advice), until they have something real to show. Pre-announcing software development projects early on is asking for trouble. If they take more time than planned (which software development almost always does), people will be disappointed. If business priorities changes along the way, people will be disappointed. And so on.
