I've found that in 2.0.4 the first raw file opens unacceptably slow (20 sec), but subsequent raw files open in just a few seconds. Maybe I need to find a real small raw file to open up on startup.

Many thanks for letting me know!
Just to confirm, are you referring to RAW files loading slowly generally in V2, or are you experiencing a difference between the MSIX and EXE versions with loading RAWs?
Raw files opening much slower in V2 than they did in V1.

Hi @MJT,
Thanks for your report and our sincerest apologies for the delayed response here. We are exceptionally busy following the release of V2 and we thank you for your continued patience and understanding here.
I can see from the log.txt file provided that Hardware Acceleration appears to be causing the app to crash when launching. Can you please ensure your GPU drivers are fully up to date, directly from the manufactures website and then try opening the app once again for me?
Many thanks in advance!

As Walt has mentioned above this isn't a supported installation method for Affinity V2 and is known to cause issues when installing/running the app in this manner.
If you haven't already, we now have .EXE versions of V2 available, as outlined here:
I hope this helps
Yes, I uninstalled the old apps and installed the EXE version. All is well except the slow loading of RAW files.

For printing, print that PDF then, or hide/disable all layers you don't want to print from a document.
I cannot find the export dialog as shown in your post. I used to see that in V1 but don't see it in V2.

I have a layout in Designer that I would like to get a PDF of only a portion of the layout. Is there any way to print only what is selected?

I'm not sure when you're getting that error message. Can you describe the workflow that leads to it?
Go to my license download section in my account
download and save the file
open file that was downloaded
after it installs it tried to launch. That is when I get the message.
I used the 'unzip' method and got publisher installed, so it no longer matters.

That error says that you need to uninstall the other copy of Publisher 2 that you have installed.
As I understand it, V2 has significant functional changes that were developed based on the sandboxing provided by the MSIX installer. Without the sandboxing they need to make those new functions work in a different way.
Uninstalled the 'publisher 2' that may or may not have really been there. After install I now get

which is what I had gotten when installing the others using MSIX installer.
I guess I am part of a small minority that gets this error. If I didn't like their software and 'non-subscription' approach, I guess I would move on.
Someday I'll need to address the RAW files opening in photo taking 15-20 seconds (V1 took 2-3 seconds) .

I had installed photo and designer via the 'unzip' method. Everything runs fine with them for now. I was waiting for the new installer to be available to install publisher. I needed to run publisher today so I thought I would try it to see if the MSIX installer would now work on my machine and it still does not.
App installation failed with error message: Windows cannot install package SerifEuropeLtd.AffinityPublisher2_2.0.3.1688_x64__3cqzy0nppv2rt because a different package SerifEuropeLtd.AffinityPublisher2_200.3.1688.0_x64__844sdzfcmm7k0 with the same name is already installed. Remove package SerifEuropeLtd.AffinityPublisher2_200.3.1688.0_x64__844sdzfcmm7k0 before installing. (0x80073cf3)
I'm not a software developer but really, how hard can it be to make an installer like you have always done. It's been 2 months now.

If you're getting the same error on the MS Store version too then i'm not. Can you try creating a test user account on the machine to see if the same happens?
So, since the new (old) install method is not coming soon......
I created a new local account. Went to the MS store, Downloaded and install publisher2. it works.
Went back to my normal account, tried to launch publisher2 (start menu), it won't start.
FYI I am still running designer2 and photo2 via the unzip method. I don't have any issues yet running them .
These programs are to support my hobby, not mission or revenue critical. If you want me to do any other investigation to why I have an issue, let me know.

I'm curious: were you starting it from the Windows Start Menu, or some other way?
I would get that after it tried to launch after the install. When I try to launch it via the start menu it does nothing. task manager confirms nothing is running.
-
Yes. After many installs through the download from affinity or the MS Store I would not be able to run. I get that same dialog box pop up.
Ive installed designer and phot via the un supported unzip method.
When the new installer arrives I will re-install it the correct way.

I have the same laptop. The reason it's not Windows 11 ready is because it does not have a Trusted Platform Module, which is required for Windows 11 to function. A TPM is either a physical addon card or an eTPM implemented in firmware by later generations of processors.
I updated the TPM yesterday via firmware update from Dell. I had hoped that was something keeping my V2 install from happening.

This is what I did, but no guarantee it won't mess things up worse, although that's kinda hard to imagine...
First, close all your Affinity
programsapps, then go to where you unzipped, and find the folder affinity-photo-2.0.0\App\Resources\Affinity%20Photo. (Yes, it actually has a %20 in it😖). It should be full of files like "assets.propcol", etc. Then find directory: C:\Users\<usernamehere>\.affinity\Common\2.0\user, (note the dot in .affinity, and it may be hidden). COPY the first, unzipped folder into the second, overwriting existing files. Next time you start a V2programapp, default stuff should be there, and they should share betweenprogramsapps.Worked. Thanks. Now I can get familiar with V2 as I wait until I can do a valid installation.

For what it’s worth, I developed (parts of) the apps on a Dell XPS 15 initially running Windows 10 then later upgraded to Windows 11, so I can absolutely confirm that v2 should work on that machine 🙂
MY XPS-15 is a 9550, a few years old. For some odd reason it does not show as having the right variation of processor to go to Win11. I am content with W10.

FYI - my installation issue is still unresolved.

We have a huge backlog AND it's the weekend. You should get a response from staff in a few days. If you already have, they should come back to you if you are clear in that thread that your problems aren't resolved. Working with unzipped versions of the install is unsupported
I don't want to go the unzipped route and look forward to a better fix. My XPS-15 has up to date Windows 10 and should be very capable of running V2.
I will make it clear in the other threads that I am still unresolved.
I am in the US in Eastern time zone, and away from the computer most of the day. Hoping it does not turn into a long term, iterative Q and A getting to resolution.

The only way I could get any of the 3 Apps to run was to go the unzip route. They run but I don't have any brushes. I tried to go back to the default setting but it did not bring them in. When I try to import brushes (assets.propcol) from anywhere it says 'error importing brushes'.
Any suggestion for this work around as we all wait for a different installer?
Unfortunately my other forum threads trying to get the install to work stopped getting answered.

I do double-clicks (in Photo) to get to the next layer behind the currently selected one. I haven't tried that in Designer though.

Moving also fails for me - I just get a 0x80073cf6 error and a message to try later.
Happy to sit this out - software uninstalled while I wait for a more traditional installer.

I use V1 and I'm evaluating V2 on 30 day trial. To be honest cost is not a factor in deciding if I'll move to V2. However integration is absolutely critical and the inability to call V2 from DXO etc means I'd not bother to use V2 even if it were a free upgrade. If this work around is a one-off then I'm OK, but if it is required every time there is an upgrade I cannot live with that either. So, I'll wait and see if the matter is addressed in the course of my trial period, or at least an update is released and proves I do not have to keep repeating the work around.
I really want to continue with Affinity, for many reasons I wish them lots of success and I'm very happy to spend my money with them. I'm just so surprised that they've taken this miss-step with V2. Here's hoping they respond rapidly to our feedback.

Works great for me so far. Can even call the program to launch through Faststone, and I assume lightroom.
This may just salvage a lot of returns for V2 for Serif.
Thank you!!
Well, although the Apps ran, I have brush issues. Going to wait for direction from Serif.

I, like so many of you, am also very disappointed with the route Serif took for its programs.
I also encountered few problems after installing new apps, like lack of shortcuts for example, or difficulties to add .exe files to other programs. The solution that might work for all of you is:
download msix file of your desired program,
extract it (unzip it) to a folder using 7-zip,
go to that folder, your .exe file should be located in App subfolder.Run the program like you would normally.
It did work for me.
I was able to place that folder to any directory, create shortcuts and connect external programs to use Affinity.Bravo!

New update.
Last night after finally getting the Apps to run, I used them, open and closed and re-opened them. No issues.
Woke up overnight (2AM) and used Designer for a while. It worked.
Got up this morning (630 am), composed the response above, then went to use them. Nothing works. Clicking on the program in the start menu results in it flashing a black bar under the App name for 1 second, then nothing. All 3 Apps do this.
I had done nothing on the computer except for trying to install the .NET you suggested. NOTHING.
I will be out most of the day, so responding to your messages likely won't happen. Probably a whole weekend will be without V2 since you are in the UK.
FRUSTRATED AGAIN!!

I just now saw your message. I downloaded and tried to install .NET 4.8.
I evidently already have a newer version.
After MANY failed attempts, I was able to get all three apps installed from the Microsoft Store. Very frustrating as I have a good computer, Dell XPS 15. I must say that I have rarely, if ever, downloaded anything from the Microsoft Store. No particular reason, just have not had the need. In reading though all of the support threads, a bunch of people are not fond of Serif's choice to go this route.
You have a great set of programs (now Apps). My usual workflow is
1. Import into an old version of Lightroom (no subscription). I do not use it as a DAM but like (or am used to) the ease and speed of raw processing and culling.
2. Open the photo into Affinity Photo (launched from Lightroom)
3. Apply Topaz noise reduction if needed as a filter.
4. Print (if worthy) and save back to Lightroom
*** Are there issues with launching V2 from Lightroom? ****
Do you have a suggestion for me to replace Lightroom as I use it?

The installer isn’t the problem here - unfortunately we don’t support Windows 8.1 (the minimum we support is Windows 10 May 2020 update). If you can’t update your OS I suggest you seek a refund. Sorry.
Windows 10 home, 22H2 here.
Is there a path to resolution you can suggest?

Ok, after I download the photo app, designer app or the publisher app, I hit install. I assume the install selection is going to install the App. After the app installs, that dialog box pops up. Every Affinity V2 App. Every time I try to re- install it

That's what I get after the installs, same for Photo, Designer and publisher
