A simple but cool movie. Your voice is clear, which is important in instructional videos, and the steps when creating logo are easy to repeat.
Games graphic is not my thing, but I enjoyed watching your video. I hope this isn't your last one.

Thanks! I Have some topics in mind for future tutorials. I Think I can improve the speed of instructions in the next videos, I'm still learning how to use the video editing software. I Want to create video's that are helpful for creating assets for game development, but many of the videos will be suited for all kinds of designs.

  2. I made an tutorial on how to make a simple text logo. (Suited for Beginners)
Explanations are mainly intended for Affinity Designer, but almost all the techniques I use are also available in Affinity Photo.
This video uses some of the following techniques:
    - Separating a text into separate letters.
    - Using layer effects to create a bevel, gradient overlay, drop shadow and outline.
    - Create a background for the logo with the contour tool.

It's my first tutorial video, I hope it's useful to someone. 🙂
  3. Just wanted to let my voice heard.

I Bought a S8+ and although it's a great tablet, nothing comes close to Affinity designer. Sure there are some drawing apps, but nothing for real vector work.

I Think this is the time for Affinity to get into the Android platform. The S series is more than capable enough to handle the software. And getting more and more popular with creative users.

Nudges made with the arrow key are recorded but you have to perform another action (e.g. click the layer in the Layes panel) before the move is recorded in the macro

What do you intend to do next when the multiple layers are selected? Sometimes there can be another way around a macro limitation

Thanks for the answer. But it just does not work. What I want to do is this:
    - Use the selected layer.
    - Duplicate the layer.
    - Transform the new duplicated layer, make it slightly smaller.
    - Move the duplicated layer a few pixels down.
    - Use ctrl J to repeat the process a couple of times.
    - Select all the new layers and combine them (these are vector layers)

All of this is to create a text effect that I want to be able to replicate easily.

  5. I Have the same problem with my new monitor.

The default profile installed by the Samsung installer gives correct images in other programs, but when I open Affinity designer the colors of my image are wrong.
I Noticed because I have my old monitor next to it. If I drag the affinity window to the other monitor it displays a wrong color, when I let go it fixes itself and the color is correct. Drag it to the new monitor the color is still correct, until I let go of the mouse button and the color shifts back to a wrong color.

I Used the same fix as described in this topic. Set the color profile of the monitor to the the one mentioned. The problems go away, but that can not be the best solution? I Assume the color profile is not the best one for my monitor.

  6. I'm using affinity designer to create icons which I need to export to SVG to get the path data.

Now when I move a curve shape in the editor that was in the center of the window to the top left corner it will add a transform matrix in the file. I understand why it does this but I want to export the shape with the current position values.

I Found that if I press something like apply rotation before exporting the move transformation is also applied.

Is there a way to make this an automatic feature with the export function where it exports the path data with the transformation matrix applied?

    Hi both,

There's nothing wrong with the way it works. If you hide the black layer and rasterize, there is no difference in the result.

You cannot really have that result in 2 images because you're using different blend modes. If you need to composit them later, why don't you just export the 3 layers separately and set the blend modes there?

I Can export them separately but it's being used in a software product, rendering a color dodge blend mode takes much more processing power than normal blending. Therefor I would like to avoid using that in real time. I Think I will have to rethink how I'm creating this image and maybe I will need to recreate the effect in a different way.
That being said. I Don't understand why if I put a solid black background layer in my group and a mask on the group. That the resulting image is difference when I rasterize the group.

Why not just set the blend mode for the group to Normal?

Because it gives white parts in the result image.
I Will show you what happens in the image I'm working on:

    With group set to normal:

For the project I'm working on I would like to export the black background with the stars and the purple clouds in two separate images. But I can not do this because I can not export the clouds the way I want to.

  9. Yes I've been playing with it a bit more and I think this is might just be a technical limitation. I Think it is because I'm using a black background and when rasterizing the app uses white for premultiplied alpha calculations. I Tried a different approach to get the result that I want but I run into issues with that as well.

To try to get a nice transparent rasterized layer from the group with the correct colors I tried this.
    - Put the black background into the group, this way it has a solid black background to rasterize.
    - But I needed the transparency so I added a mask on the group. This looked good, however when I rasterized the group the end result has a different transparency compared to the mask of my group.

  10. Version used: 1.7.3.481
I Tried to rasterize a group that contained a layer that is set to color dodge.
I Expected the group to be rasterized exactly like it was when it was still a group, however the end result looks different from when it was grouped.
The result can also be seen if you merge down the color dodge layer.

    (Example file in the attachment)
Click on the group and select rasterize for the issue I'm talking about.

  11. Using Affinity Designer v1.7 for Windows.
I Found this out because I dragged the navigation panel by accident and wanted to undo the dragging.
I Started out with the navigation panel docked, then I started dragging the panel. I Think this only works if the blue docking hover box is visible. Keep the panel in drag mode by keeping the mouse pressed and then press esc. The panel now docks but you can no longer click anything in the application.

It might also work for other panels but I only tested it with the navigation panel.

  12. I Agree, this would be a very welcome feature. It would not even have to do everything other animation tools can. Just tracking a few things in key frames would be a great addition, like Position, Scale, Rotation and opacity would be enough for a lot of simple animations. You don't need to track every point in a curve object, if you just track the objects or groups properties it would be enough.

If it needs to be a separate product I would be more than happy to pay for it. I've tried Synfig and Open toonz but they do not import the drawings from Affinity Designer correctly. Even if I try to copy the drawing to inkscape and then export it, the tools can not handle gradients correctly. Maybe After effects of Toon boom would correctly import the drawings but they are just to expensive for the tasks I need them for.

  13. It would be nice if the brush window could have a few improvements.

    1. Show the name of the brush in the list of the brushes. Now I need to hover over the brush to see the name in the tooltip. It would be nice to be able to have a setting to choose if the name should be visible in the list, it could be shown under the brush or the brush preview could be changes to show only a dot of the brush and the name next to it.

    2. Other list styles for the brush list. This is a little bit like the first point in both cases it's about how the brushes are displayed in the list. It would be nice to have an option for smaller brush previews or maybe even multiple columns or a grid layout for the brush list. Now I need to scroll a lot trough the brush list if a category has a lot of brushes.

    3. Change the order of the brush categories. If I add new brushes or create new categories I would like to be able to sort the categories. Now it seems to be fixed to the order in which you added the categories, which gets a bit messy after a while. The only solution I can think of at the moment would be to clear the list and re-add the categories. Which is a lot of work, so a simple way to change the order would be very helpful.

  14. I Have set some rotating options to the wheel on my Intuos 4.

It's not perfect but it works for good enough for me.

First you need to make sure the rotate left and rotate right options have a keyboard shortcut in Affinity Photo. Look in the preference screen in the shortcut section for the option if you do not see a shortcut assigned in the menu. The rotate options are in the view menu.

Then go to your Wacom tablet settings and set the shortcuts to either two buttons or on the touch wheel.
