firstdefence got a reaction from Ron P. in do you feel that V2 has fixed bugs you had in V1?
I'd rather they frequently fix one, two or three bugs and then send out an update, than get job-lot updates over longer periods. As my Mum says "Inch by inch life's a cinch, yard by yard life is hard" smart woman my Mum.

Correct, but I have quite a few friends who have Windows and use Affinity and they were not best pleased, its consequence was a lot of trouble both in installation issues and again workarounds to try and fix the issues that Windows MSIX brought. I don't think Affinity did themselves any favours on the Windows side of things.

    Thank you.
I did try it before but it didn't seem to work.
Opened my file again and it works.
    As they say...human error.

A lot of bugginess, has been lost in MSIX-gate, it's been so large an issue it really should have had it's own forum section, in fact it really wouldn't hurt to clean up the forum by moving all the MSIX posts into a sub category.
I reckon, bugs will always be found, some common and some rare but the speed of fixing is quite slow and in V2 I think a lot of that is because of MSIX-gate, knocking out an MSI installer must have had an impact on bug fixing resources.
I also consider this to be an awesome forum for solutions and people helping out, glad to be a part of it.

firstdefence reacted to LondonSquirrel in Why does my text style get all messed up?
I have seen this a couple of times, the weird sizes which I know for sure that I did not apply. Like you, I tried reapplying text styles only to find the problem cropping up again soon afterwards.
The only way I found to reliably reformat all the text correctly was to copy the text to a plain text editor, delete the text frame from APub, add a new text frame, then paste the plain text in and apply the styles. I am not sure where the problem lies, whether it is the text which gets 'confused' or the text frame or maybe both.

There are some bugs that could cause this, including one related to importing IDML files, and others related to copying/pasting a text frame between documents with different DPIs, or changing the DPI of a document after creating a text frame.
But most often it may occur if you resize a text frame using the wrong handle. If you look at the lower right of a text frame, you have two handles. One is at the corner of the frame, the other is detached and located diagonally below and to the right of the corner. If you use that detached handle, it resizes the frame, but it also rescales the text within the frame. That rescaling matches the effect you're describing.
You can try selecting the frame (not the text within it) and clicking Revert Defaults in the Toolbar, or using Edit > Defaults > Revert. If that doesn't work, deleting the frame and recreating it is the only other known approach.

Assets: Comic Toolkit seamless Pattern Fills
Added new Asset Set to consider the new feature with V2 of dragging pattern assets (Vector or raster) onto the fill swatch on context bar. Personally I use these as overlays for images to create a comic grunge effect but they can equally be used as simple vector patterns. To function, vector patterns had to be nested into a container rectangle rather than just a compound curve (as vector pattern assets above)

The new Shape Builder Tool is ideal for jobs like this.
select all the objects (cmd+A) activate Shape Builder Tool (S) use the minus button in context toolbar to choose delete mode click on each of the unwanted triangular regions

It would be for the those who have been regular readers of the publication. When they receive the next issue it will be quite different from previous issues. I thought it would be good to include a COLOPHON explaining the reasons for the new layout. Years ago i recall seein ga couple of such examples of Editor's Notes. or a designer's Colophon.

firstdefence got a reaction from relexx in Affinity Photo: Remove really strong grain/noise on (old) scans of old documents?
I went the manual erase path using the Pixel too set to white, one of the benefits here is the pixel tool is square and this lends itself nicely to this task and it didn't take long to get it to this stage, I'd even consider stopping at this point. One thing to note here is not to make the scan too perfect, leaving the lines slightly raggedy gives it a bit of authenticity. I used the Erase white paper filter and set a green background for effect.

Tried a few ideas but the closest I can get is using either the Threshold filter or the posterise filter set to 2, even then there will still be a fair amount of manual erasing.

Tried it, and it worked.   It also worked using my original method of adding the rectangle to the shape with text already subtracted.   Seems odd that it works when scaled down so small, is that a common workaround?

Agreed!   I do appreciate the help though!

firstdefence got a reaction from Realm_SGG in Is there a way to create a continuous, 3D and fading glow coming from a surface?
Ok this is done with the ellipse being repeated lots of times and moved by a small amount, all of those repeated ellipses are then grouped and an elliptical gradient applied to the group with the top part of the gradient having no or very little opacity and the base having about 50% opacity.
You can get a similar effect using a linear gradient.

You can turn on transparent background to see what does or does not have transparency under File > Document setup...
You can turn it off afterwards.
