firstdefence got a reaction from Mr. Doodlezz in Designer Dimension capability - like Serif DrawPlus (old)
Welcome to the forum @joelbcornette
Affinity doesn't tell us what the road map for future releases will be but they have a temporary measure tool so I would like to think that is going to be expanded to permanent and or flexible measurement display whereby you measure an object and when you resize the object the measurements scale to match, only time will tell.

firstdefence got a reaction from Graham Clark in Weird white lines with EPS file format
As a fix instead of just converting to Adobe PDF You will notice the lines are formed because there is a grid of squares in a group with a mask, if you select all of the squares underneath the mask, you can Geometry: Add them together thus removing the lines. (Layer > Geometry > Add)

The AI did most of the work, but here's my tweaked version. May be a bit over-processed, so I'll try again.
I am so grateful for the help!!!

Make sure the layer is rasterised, you can do this by right-clicking and selecting Rasterise

I’m Mac but...
(for MS Windows:)
Affinity's own plugin folder is: C:\ProgramData\Affinity\Photo\1.0\Plugins
Affinity will always find plugins in that folder, so if you go to the FilterForge folder there should be a .plugin file that you can copy/paste into the folder mentioned above.
Re the Filter > Plugins you need to have a pixel layer selected such as an image for the plugins to be active.

@Filter Forge Are these instructions for windows still correct for Filter Forge Version 9
And here's how to install Filter Forge 7 or 8 on AP 1.7.1 on Windows. Note you can do it only manually now cause unfortunately we can't get the answer from the nicest guy Mark Ingram since the version 1.6
1. Open C:\Program Files\Filter Forge 8\Plugin\x64 .
2. Copy there both files: right-click and Copy (or Ctrl+C).
3. Open AP and go to Edit -> Preferences -> Photoshop Plugins.
4. Click on the "Open Default Folder in Explorer..." and paste there two files from the Clipboard using right-click and Paste (or Ctrl+P).
5. Then open "Filter Forge.config" file in NotePad and change the IndependentUI value="false"/> to IndependentUI value="true"/>. Save changes (Ctrl+S).
6. Tick the Allow Unknown Plugins.
5. Close Preferences and Restart Affinity Photo manually.
6. Now you can find Filter Forge 7 or 8 in the Filters -> Plugins -> Filter Forge and use it.

firstdefence reacted to Kevin B in The lines drawn with the measuring tool disappear
Well, I'm very happy with the Measure Tool as a new feature, sure it could be improved over time but I believe it's a decent start for a 50€ non-subscription software.
The CAD import is indeed useful to me, but the more CAD tools they add in the closer we come to something like Corel Technical at 499,00 €/year -- ten times the cost of Affinity Designer in just one year.
Oh, and Corel is owned by KKR via a holding company with the funny name of ALLUDO, along with a mix of other software companies. I'm sure that KKR has much more interest in making and hording money than in graphic design software and its humble users . . . . I prefer the Serif Affinity approach much more.
Perhaps the solution is as@firstdefence wrote of, a CAD add-on tool named Hot Doors CADtools that the CAD-oriented Designer users could purchase as needed.
Just my two cents worth! K
499,00 €/

firstdefence got a reaction from krisLap in Can't have same color sift results as Pixelmator pro
I get this result using your settings on my iMac using both Affinity and Pixelmator Pro, Affinity is on the left Pixelmator on the right. Affinity seems a much softer application, whereas Pixelmator is quite garish to my eye.

firstdefence reacted to Twolane in Why can't Win11's Task Manager kill these programs?
I don't want to turn this into another complaining thread. I'm a happy user of Affinity all the way round. I was working on yet another POD book in Publisher when the difficulty popped up. The POD book is done and good to go on Ingram Spark and Amazon, regardless of whether it's a bug or a feature.
Thank you Affinity for your continued efforts with v2.

Many thanks @firstdefence - thats a great workaround.

firstdefence got a reaction from Koyander in Missing graphics in the Layers panel
To follow on from @markw if you use Large Layer Thumbnails it's still very hard to see, if you select the layer and add an FX like outer glow the line can be made to be more visible in the layers panel. You can turn the glow off when needed.

Would be cool to change the storage option of Assets to such as DropBox, Mega etc. so they are synced to all your Affinity designer versions.

Thanks, that works well, don't even need to move the line !

firstdefence got a reaction from Ron P. in do you feel that V2 has fixed bugs you had in V1?
I'd rather they frequently fix one, two or three bugs and then send out an update, than get job-lot updates over longer periods. As my Mum says "Inch by inch life's a cinch, yard by yard life is hard" smart woman my Mum.

Use the shapebuilder tool, change it's action to subtract (-) and click on the bit you don't need.

I read something about this but didn't understand how to fix it. Exporting and re-importing seemed to set it in the right space. Thanks

firstdefence reacted to v_kyr in AutoTrace (convert raster image to vector) in Affinity Designer V2?
Looks like a reuse of the Potrace algorithm, which has been translated from C into/for a bunch of other prog languages routines too (GitHub is full of such ports).
Here's how a default Potrace will trace that, also in B/W (via the DragPotrace GUI for Potrace)...
And here's what Vtracer makes out of it ...

firstdefence got a reaction from jmwellborn in do you feel that V2 has fixed bugs you had in V1?
Correct, but I have quite a few friends who have Windows and use Affinity and they were not best pleased, its consequence was a lot of trouble both in installation issues and again workarounds to try and fix the issues that Windows MSIX brought. I don't think Affinity did themselves any favours on the Windows side of things.

firstdefence got a reaction from jmwellborn in do you feel that V2 has fixed bugs you had in V1?
A lot of bugginess, has been lost in MSIX-gate, it's been so large an issue it really should have had it's own forum section, in fact it really wouldn't hurt to clean up the forum by moving all the MSIX posts into a sub category.
I reckon, bugs will always be found, some common and some rare but the speed of fixing is quite slow and in V2 I think a lot of that is because of MSIX-gate, knocking out an MSI installer must have had an impact on bug fixing resources.
I also consider this to be an awesome forum for solutions and people helping out, glad to be a part of it.
