firstdefence got a reaction from Uncle Mez in Light/lightning effect
ran something up quickly as I have an early start on a job : Orbs.afdesign
You could spend more time on the star to get a more random effect. Orbs are easily done by creating an ellipse and adding transparency or using the FX option in layers

With Photos, you can download free lightning brushes from here : https://www.brusheezy.com/brushes/57462-20-lightning-ps-brushes-abr-vol-3
(there are lots of others).
Import the brushes, choose one, set the colour to white, resize the brush to taste, click once, KABOOM....

firstdefence reacted to toltec in Digital illustrations-photo or designer?
Why not download the trial versions and give them both a try?
Download Photo and try that, then when the trial runs out, download Designer. Designer will open any files you created with Photo. Which is kind of cool.
If you buy just one I would say Photo but if you use both Photoshop and Illustrator, compared to them, buying both Photo and Designer would still save you a small fortune and give you the best of both worlds.
P.S. I have no connection with Serif and do not get any commission for my recommendations. However, if Serif requests it, I would happily supply my PayPal account details

Wacom are the Defacto tablets and if you can afford one, the Wacom Intuos Pro are a worthy purchase, the feature set on most Wacom's are very good and drivers work well in most programs although Wacom users seem to have trouble with in Krita.
I have bought the XP-Pen Deco 03 and its a very competent Tablet, I'm just getting used to it and have changed the button config about 10 times lol! Its wireless too and is very ergonomic, it's selling feature is the dial that can resize brushes or be set as a zoom in and out, you find yourself using it a lot. If using on USB cable, the cable can get in the way of the dial but you get round that by laying the side of your hand over it. I generally use it wirelessly so its not a problem.
I got mine for £84.00, they retail about £99.00 but I watched a video that advertised a promo code, it had expired on May 1st but when I tried it on May 3rd on Amazon it was accepted so I got 15% off lol! 15% OFF AMAZON UK DISCOUNT CODE: PLP6JYO8 Try it if you want to buy one.
My first tablet was an Aiptek Ultimate that I'd used for 7 years+ and was a Wacom Intuos Pro Clone, I sold it recently to a very happy guy as he used Windows 7 and drivers were still available for Windows 7 but the drivers for Mac were too old and didn't work very well. That prompted me to buy the XP-Pen Deco 03. The XP-Pen range are generally highly regarded.
With Wacom you are buying the best and that is shown with the price hike, but you also get an excellent feature set, good driver support and a large community of users. XP-Pen service is excellent and they respond to questions quickly and are always updating drivers.
If was going to do drawing as a day job I'd push to a XP-Pen Drawing Display, if I actually earned a living I'd change to a Cintiq and earn even more. This is how I look at things, can it earn me more than it cost, if the answer is yes I buy the product because everything after the initial outlay is now profit.
Ultimately affordability dictates what you buy, so, I always ask what's your upper limit and buy within that price range.

From looking at your printout, it seems there is a secondary problem involved, but I am pretty sure you can make the slight pink edges go away by ticking Preferences > Performance > Use Precise Clipping. This is only a view quality setting, however.

@popncorn The pdf I have just downloaded is fine as far as my system is concerned, I can open it to print and I can open it in Affinity Designer, see image below.
A few questions...
Where are you saving these files to? Are you using the Avery Online software, Desktop version, or using a template in another piece of software? I've just created an Avery account, Using the online Avery software I can upload and load the PDF file, (see the files supported by the online option in the screenshot below), I am also installing the desktop version to check that this is also capable.
The Desktop Version, is limited in acceptable files as @walt.farrell has said and will show your PDF files as faded icons because the desktop version does not support PDF. I think this is just a sneaky move on Avery's part to get you to use the Online version.
So, I would conclude you are using the Desktop version that doesn't support PDF's, try logging into your Avery Account and use the online software I have a feeling it will work.

Hi Michael,
Can you attach a RAW file for me to look at? If you'd rather not share the image or it's large to attach (needs to be the actual RAW file) I don't have access to our company Dropbox at the moment but can PM you my email address so you can use a free service like We Transfer to the file to me.
The screenshot from Affinity is very different, just as a check, if you start a new document, File>New make and sure Transparent background isn't selected and click okay, is the background on the new document white or a yellowish colour? Just want to make sure it's not a colour profile issue as talked about here

firstdefence got a reaction from IcyPRO in Deleting and creating node handles
@IcyPRO Just pull on the left side path to reveal the left side handle
The Node Handle will likely appear on the right and you will need to pull it back over to the left.

firstdefence reacted to R C-R in Prevent object to scale when resizing group
For text in a group, you can use Frame text instead of Artistic text to keep it from scaling:
For some parent-child hierarchies the Lock Children feature (video tutorial here) may do what you want; otherwise you will probably find it easiest to temporarily move the layers you do not want to rescale out of the parent group.

firstdefence reacted to IcyPRO in Deleting and creating node handles
Hello everyone,
I've been looking for an answer to this and I can't seem to find it so I'm asking you directly.
So I know there is a way to delete node handles holding ALT key, but how do you "drag out" a new handle from the node?
(Edited) Here are the ways to make the handle reappear:
- dragging the line next to the node (you don't have to drag to sides, you can drag along the path)
You can hold ALT if you don't want to affect path beyond nodes, but that will automatically turn your nodes into sharp ones.
- dragging node with left + right click and moving it "out of the way" to make the hidden handle appear
- converting node to smooth node (can be very destructive)

firstdefence reacted to R C-R in [AD] Distort Shape Options?
Unless something has changed since I last checked about a year ago, only the pricey ($700) 'pro' version of SketchUp supports importing anything other than as a raster image. That may be OK for some things but not for a project that needs to remain in vector format.

Sorry, didn't see your previous post.
600-1200 wouldn't be of much help. I need images that I can enlarge on-the-fly and have it remain tack sharp; anywhere from 12 inches to over 1000 inches.

Correct. I'm looking for the trigger along everyone else and appreciate an earlier reply suggesting we save a file along with History and send to the Affinity team. I'm doing my best to notice when it happens and perhaps keeping a log of my history each time it occurs might shed some light for the developers to fix the issue. I'm hoping to help solve this dilemma 'cause it's driving me nuts.

Sorry to be that guy but can we keep this thread to the topic at hand please? I'm following this thread for an answer to the posted question and this morning my Inbox was filled with about 20 non-related responses. Grumpy old man yells at cloud. Thank you.
