firstdefence got a reaction from Alfred in Corrupted/distorted pdf export from AD
I'm getting a sense of Kandinsky circa 1921 I re saved it as a pdf from Preview and it rotated the corrupted image 90º, I think we have the makings of a plugin here lol
Just tried again from Preview and exported as PDFX-3 and it opens fine in Preview and other apps, so whatever that brush is doing it aint good for PDF's.
I have a go and create something similar my end to see if I can recreate it.

If the object has a rotation handle when selected, just double-click on the circle at the end of the handle to reset its rotation to 0°. It should work for anything: groups, multiple selections, placed images, etc.

A super cool feature for the Fill Tool would be...
Instead of having to export a pattern and bring it back into Affinity, the Fill Tool could apply a Symbol as a fill or a named Group. within the document.

firstdefence got a reaction from R C-R in Using a Graphic Tablet ... (whats your setup?)
Form should never be a detriment to Function. If Form makes something "less than" it is a failed design.

<rant> I hate the trendy low or zero contrast look that seems to be so popular now, not just for electronics but just about everywhere. That includes the tool & button icons in Affinity products that do not show a lot of contrast difference whether enabled/selected vs not, but the absolute worst example I have seen so far is the instruction sheet that comes with an Apple Pencil. Everything is printed with such a light shade of gray that it is almost invisible unless viewed under very bright light.
Almost as bad is the light gray text in many of Apple's online user documents, which makes them almost useless when viewed on a mobile device in bright sunlight. </rant>

firstdefence reacted to MEB in Pixel Export Opaque Issue
Hi pickledpirate,
Welcome to Affinity Forums
This is a known issue that's already logged to be looked at. No need to fill a bug report for it.

try inkscape for this,, the result on b/w images is pretty good.

firstdefence reacted to R C-R in NoobTard Question #1: Move Tool Problems (yes... we are starting with BASICS!)
Note that the Status bar (the line of text at the bottom of the window) is context sensitive & will tell you which modifier keys (Shift, CMD, etc.) do what if you hover the Move Tool pointer directly over any of the handles. It also tells you which modifier keys will do what if you hover the pointer over the area just outside the handles where shearing or rotation will occur, & where applicable what a double-click on a handle will do.

firstdefence got a reaction from SrPx in Huion H610PRO
Another user is using the Huion Inspiroy H640P which is a cheaper version tablet but you might want to ask if they've had any issues to date.
I use the XP-PEN Deco 03 and its all good.

firstdefence got a reaction from SrPx in performance Windows :/ CUDA vs METAL
I don't think Affinity actually uses CUDA... yet. It uses CPU not GPU for most of its work.
Affinity wouldn't really get much benefit out of CUDA, as explained by Ben on this post. (posted by Stokerg)

You can create Presets for Adjustments and just apply the Preset to each Image.

firstdefence reacted to toltec in Is there a "jump to zero" for sliders?
Depends. There is one gent on this forum who has colour issues. Problems between reds and greens I believe,.
Figures are sometimes better.
And my eyesight isn't as good as it used to be, young man.

Considering the limited color gamut of computer screens & that most of the the colors we see on them actually are an illusion created by closely spaced triads each emitting light in only a narrow spectrum of colors, perhaps that is not such a good idea?

firstdefence got a reaction from Mr. K in Burn and Dodge to another layer?
Not using the tools but you might be able to create a pseudo dodge and burn using layers spraying tones of white or shades of black onto them in the areas you want lightening or darkening and blend modes to apply those layers. But other than that dodging and burning seems to be a destructive process. You can duplicate the image layer and dodge and burn that so you have the original to go back to.

firstdefence reacted to MEB in Delete Selection [Affinity Photo]
Hi @firstdefence, all,
Raster files will open as pixel layers everytime you open them directly either by using File ▸ Open or by dragging them to the application window if no document is opened or over the main toolbar of the app if there's a document opened in the work area.
Raster files will be added as Image layers when they are placed on an existing/opened document either by using the File ▸ Place command, the Place Image Tool (in Affinity Designer only), or by dragging them over an opened document on the application window.
Complex documents (PDF, PSD, SVG, affinity files) are imported (opened in case of affinity native files) directly as layers/objects when opened directly (File ▸ Open) or as embedded documents if placed (dragged over an existing document; using File ▸ Place; or in Designer using the Image Place Tool) into an existing document.

firstdefence reacted to HVDB Photography in Easiest way of copying edits from one image to another
But, correct me if I'm wrong, what if you have also made LENS, DETAIL, TONAL adjustments!
Then a separate preset must be defined for each panel!
For JPEG shots ,in Photo Persona, once all adjustments are made you could group them en copy/paste that group onto an other image !!!
-
firstdefence reacted to toltec in Easiest way of copying edits from one image to another
The best way to make a group of adjustments is to use the Develop Persona. You can make several adjustments at once (including White Balance) and save them as a single preset.
Use the Basic panel for most adjustments. Once done, use the burger menu on the Basic panel and "Add Preset" to create a preset with all those adjustments. It will prompt you for a name. Select that from the Preset: menu to apply.
Edit. I also like having all the sliders in one panel.

firstdefence reacted to R C-R in Is there a "jump to zero" for sliders?
On the Mac versions, use the alt/option modifier key for this rather than the CTRL one. However, for some field values expressed in percent values it does not work. For example, in the HSL adjustment it works for Hue shift but not for Saturation or Luminosity shift. Possibly this is because the latter two only seem to accept whole number % values.
Using Shift + mouse wheel sets percent values in 10% steps, & elsewhere in 10 unit steps. That makes it very quick & easy to set zero values.

firstdefence reacted to HVDB Photography in Burn and Dodge to another layer?
Add a new pixel layer
fill it with 50% gray (you can use a shortcut i.e. Miscelaneous > Set fill to 50% gray)
set the blend mode to overlay
In the context toolbar, choose a tonal range
..
and start doging or burning ..
or
create that layer on the fly using my attached macro

firstdefence got a reaction from HVDB Photography in White balance doesn't work correctly
To find the lightest part of the image use a Threshold Adjustment filter and move the slider to the right until you have only a small amount of white and the rest of the image is black, what you end up with is a hotspot, in this image that hotspot occurs at 70% on the threshold slider, you can mark this with vertical and horizontal guides, then turn the threshold filter off, the guides will indicate where you need to place the picker for the white balance, but, this is only part of the solution...
Yes you took a poor image or whoever took the image didn't get the white balance right, in fact they got it very wrong, consequently you actually have made it difficult to play with in order to get a good white balance compensation and using white balance alone will not solve this image. You can use the Threshold trick and then use Levels or curves to pull it up from there, Levels for a quick approximation and curves will give you more control and better adjustability.
Its difficult for us to give advice on an image when we have no point of reference.
