eljaco got a reaction from walt.farrell in AP : linked images :: changing folder name
Thx for your quick answer !
I spent many hours trying your proposal, but it didn't work : I had to reconnect some pictures manually, then the file became very slow, spinning wheel, then many crushes, problems with the master pages, etc. And I ended up with a corrupt file totally unstable. I went back to the old file and old path. I had a similar experience trying to put some files on the cloud. I had to stop, nothing worked.
Resources managing isn't really working well with APu. So be really careful with moving and renaming files !!!

Yes please, those and more. Also double-click to select gaps in text. The tab key needs to be implemented everywhere as well, so as soon as a window opens, the first field is highlighted and tabbing goes to the next field. This works in so few places across all Affinity apps.

Please allow URLs (as well as IMAGES and TEXT FRAMES, used as BANNERS for example, if possible) to be active hyperlinks in texts by adding this feature to the RIGHT-CLICK mouse menu. Thank you!

Export as HTML based on styles will be extremely useful and will give an extended dimension to all the Affinity Suite.

I would like to be able to update page numbers on my TOC without deleting line breaks and interruptions inserted manually. It would be quite useful when working on a TOC split in multiple text frames for composition purposes. It could be an additional "soft" TOC update that just reloads page numbers and section names without updating the whole TOC.

InDesign has the ability to add character-level styles to strings/patterns in paragraph styles, which is an extremely powerful and time-saving function. I would love to see this implemented in Publisher.
    Beta looks great so far!

I’m so totally stoked about this beta. I have spent a couple hours poking around, and I can say that this beta is further along than I expected. I have high hopes that this will in time replace Indesign for us (a small publisher), and it looks well on track.
Among several features that wowed right away and other "missing features" that I can work around, the one thing that stood out for me is the lack of GREP searches. In Indesign, I have a small series of GREP searches that I have saved over the past years, and I run nearly everything through them. A couple minutes on a typical file, and I have made several hundred changes. When I work on a book, the changes are in the thousands. (Note: I publish in French, and French typography relies heavily on non-breaking spaces; these GREP searches help me rapidly put them where they ought to go.)
While you're there: being able to save the searches as presets would be ideal. And as not everyone is familiar with GREP, a few pre-saved searches would help provide them immediate use: remove multiple spaces, remove trailing space, etc.

eljaco reacted to Christoph Daniel in How to create a multi-column master page ?
If I understood other topics in this forum correctly, master pages cannot hold text frames to be filled in the actual pages. You need to add a page based on the master page and add text frames to that concrete page.

    Hi MEB,
Thank you for your quick answer.
    the idea behind:
If that's possible, i can create a master page with the default objects ( e.g. a red filled rectangle) and customize this per page (eg. on the third page a green rect, on the fifth a blue one), but the rect on the master page stays red. the rect on the master page controls the size, location,..... of all rects using the master page.... but not the color on customized rects :-)
    Suggestion:
    - create a master page with "placeholder"-objects (like a picture frame or frame text), set default properties (location, size, ...,  default image, default text).
    - if desired, the content (image in a picture frame, text in a frame text) can be changed on one or more pages without changes on the applied master -page.
This could reduce the number of master pages because of the predefined "placeholder"-objects...

    Hi Ernsti,
    Welcome to Affinity Forums
As far as I know currently there's no way to prevent this from happening. Elements "generated" from the master pages are all linked to them so changes made to these elements on single pages/spreads are also reflected on the respective master pages. There's no easy way to un-link/detach these objects at this point other than turning sync off or detach them using the Symbols panel which is far from being intuitive. I believe this feature is not finished yet. I will get in touch with the dev team to see if I can get more info.

    Hi,
Is it possible, to change the content / color of an master page-object in a non-master page without change the content / color from the assigned master page ?
I made a master page with red filled rectangle. I also created a page and assigned the master page. On the new page i changed the color of the rectangle from red to green. The color of the rectangle of the master-Page was also changed. Is it possible to prevent that ?

    Hi,
Really liking what I've seen so far. However, as the title says, do you not think bleed should be on the setup of the document?
Thanks, keep up the great work...
My Adobe subscription is almost at a end!!!
In addition, is there anyway to view bleed lines?

Apple Pages is good if you are happy with uncomplicated typesetting but it cannot handle advanced expert typesetting. At present, as far as I am aware, only InDesign and QuarkXpress can do that. I have recently abandoned InDesign, because I refuse to go subscription and cloud. Currently I use QuarkXpress. It remains to be seen whether AffinityPublisher will match or surpass ID or Q. AB
PS: Oh, Mellel: did not know about that. Looks good.

eljaco reacted to Alan McD in Let's be honest
To be fair, I think Publisher is set up to compete against inDesign and Quark rather than other DTP. I have used inDesign for the best part of 15 years and for most designers, the only thing holding us back from switching to Affinity Photo and Designer was "the complete suite". Print designers rely on inDesign every single day so it made sense to stick with the Adobe Creative Cloud (that being the industry standard). I don't expect Publisher to do anything amazing (yet), but it hopefully fulfils the need of most print designers looking to leave Adobe behind.

eljaco reacted to Polygonius in What Publisher is . . . and isn't
Same for me. For writing complex manuals or stuff like this, with chapters, subchapters... its not really usable.
Maybe i´m too blind, but i did not find a possibility to set a "master-flow-text-frame" which appears on all new pages (witch are connected to that master). I just change this flow-text-box there and all pages will follow (this linking is to much uncomfortabel for mass/flow-text)... Thats so essential....  Without that, i do not know, just for creating a calendar each year... its not the money worth for my fileds of use.
