I have two iPad Pro's. 1 x 12.9" 5th generation (primary), and 1 x 11" 2nd generation (for sketching, reading, etc). They both crash regularly while importing brushes, but not always with the same brushes.
I can imagine it's frustrating as for many new users they probably imagine that it's your brushes and assets that are causing the issues. I'm disappointed that not only has Serif not address this bug yet, but they've also neglected some of the brush rendering issues that have appeared in v2—particularly with some brushes with wet edges not rendering at all (or even rendering in the brush list). This has actually led me to move more and more of my illustration work to Procreate where the brushes (including 3rd party brushes) are a dream to use, and the not only feels 'right' on an iPad (not a desktop app shoved into an iPad), but also is incredibly stable. With the new default iCloud storage coming in Procreate things are only getting better. Sadly, this is not so with Affinity.
Also, Serif are mad to be neglecting their 'developer' (for now brushes, assets, etc) community, or burning their goodwill with long-standing v2 issues. Their apps don't exist in a vacuum, and without a rich, diverse, and thriving ecosystem the Affinity apps will increasingly look less capable than other alternatives.
We use the same iPad models in the studio for primary work.
I agree with you. As a trilogy of cross-platform apps, Affinity is powerful and has much growth potential. I understand that these new versions have been written from the ground up, and it's understandable that many issues might arise as we use them daily.
However, expecting most users to be patient enough to wait for suitably stable versions is quite a challenge. We're crossing our fingers that these issues get fixed as soon as possible because we love using all Affinity tools in our studio.

I'm not getting any crashing when deleting brushes, but for me the apps regularly crash while manually importing brushes from 3rd parties such as Frankentoon, Retro Supply Co, and True Grit Texture Supply. While the apps crash, the brushes have actually been imported and are actually present when the app is restarted. This isn't a new bug, it's been with 2.x from the very start.
It's a rather confusing user experience, and I suspect one that new users. will find very frustrating.
FWIW I don't purchase anything from the Affinity store beyond the Affinity apps themselves, as I prefer to buy all brushes, assets, etc directly from the 3rd parties that produce them. So for me, everything is installed manually, and crashing on import is sadly a much too common part of my Affinity workflow now on iPadOS.
Hi! Can I also ask which iPad model do you own?
Yeah, the crashing on import is an ongoing bug since the launch of V2.0 and, yes, it's frustating for newcomers as you said, we receive a considerable amount of emails a week regarding this issue alone.

For what it's worth, I am not having any problems deleting manually-add brush categories from 2.2 (only tested in Designer, though).
But at least once, Designer froze while adding brushes. They were successfully added, but I had to force quit the application and restart it.
Hi, may I ask which iPad model do you have?
I'm having these problems with two iPad Pros 12.9" (M1 Chips). Ironically, I'm not having any issues on a 6th gen iPad Mini which I basically use to read books and sketching.

@Frankentoon Studio I'm guessing you're manually installing brush packs and not using the in app account downloader. As if I use the downloader to install/uninstall I'm not getting any issues.
I'll log the issue to be looked at by our developers.
Yes, I'm referring to manually imported brush packs. Both bugs can be easily reproduced by importing a pack from the brushes panel (the app crashes, but the pack is imported after restarting) and attempting to delete a pack (the app freezes and the brushes are not deleted).
Thank you

Just to confirm, I've 'bumped' the development report for the issue with this thread now - I can also see that it's been tentatively fixed by our team already, pending internal testing & therefore should hopefully be resolved in the next update
Hi Dan, thank you!

This bug happens to both Designer and Photo. When you attempt to delete any brush pack, no matter the size, both apps just freeze. When you close and restart them, the brushes are still there.
By the way, importing brush packs still crashes both Designer and Photo. However, after launching teh apps again, the brushes that caused the crash are installed.

This has been logged as a bug
Whoops, I'm sorry I missed that one.
Maybe a moderator could delete this post? Thanks!

I can replicate this crashing issue when importing vector brushes into Affinity (iPad) 2.1.0
- Import brushes from the hamburger menu
- The usual confirmation dialog appears
- After clicking ok the app crashes
- After re-launching brushes appear installed correctly

I'll second this as well. It's extremely frustrating when you just need to edit one style, but you have to add all of them again, just to keep the order you need them.

Hi Frankentoon
Thanks for letting us know. I can reproduce this on macOS (but not Windows as also reported).
I'll get this logged!
Thank youThank you, Sean!

Hi,
I just wanted to report that vector brushes preview end up looking really weird when switching back to Vector Persona from Pixel Persona. You can reproduce this bug, following these steps:
- Go to Pixel Persona
- Open the Brush Panel
- Deselect Show as List.
- Go back to Vector Persona and open the Brush Panel.
You'll get vector brushes previewed as thumbnails like the attached image. Since you cannot apply list to thumbnail previews on vector brushes, I assume this is a bug. If not, this looks really weird, anyways
Cheers,
Enrique

Hi!
I know this thread is kind of old, but just for the record, that Inks Pro pack is a small bonus set we offer with our Advanced Illustration Vol.1 for Affinity eBook.

Hi!
I was about to create a new thread about this, but since this one has been opened during all this time... I'll try to give it a shot as well. We've been trying to create some performance Macros in the studio and, sadly, the simple copy-paste (from clipboard) feature hasn't been implemented to Macros, even in V2.
Maybe this is not a priority, but sadly... many useful automations and fancier Macros, could be created if this function was added.

I can confirm what Paolo has shown above, so there's no point on adding anything else to those issues. Hopefully this can be solved anytime soon 😊

Would love to have any reply from Affinity's staff, at least to know they're aware of this issue...
Thanks,

Hi!
Just found out that some custom brushes are missign on the iPad version of both, Photo and Designer. For example, this is how a custom set looks in Affinity Photo on a Mac. Nothing wrong here:
And this is how the same set looks in Affinity Photo V2 on the iPad (same happens to Designer):
At the beginning I though this was only affecting dual brushes, but nope, it happens randomly without a clear pattern, at least for me.
And, this is not only a visual thing, missing brushes aren't displayed correclty while painting, either they won't paint anything at all. I'm not sure if the developers are aware of this issue already, but I wanted to post it here for the record.
Thanks,
Enrique

@ChristiduToit Awesome suggestions. I also remember the app 'Brushes' which was the first iPad app I used back in 2012. That one also recorded time-lapse videos without hiccups within the not-so-powerful 3rd generation iPad.
I was just thinking about populating our new Tik Tok account and Instagram reels with vertical time-lapse videos. But as you point out, going beyond a really simple illustration would be impossible. All in all, I'm so hyped that Affinity has started to work on this feature already, which apparently is a must for content creators nowadays and not many desktop apps have included it already.

UPDATE: I've found a little hack to 'unstuck' the Gaomon stylus. You just need to press the 'option' key again and that's it, clicking with the stylus works again. I'm not sure if this is a Mac issue only, MY Mac issue only, or a global issue... but in case someone finds this useful, I'll leave it here.
Cheers,
Enrique

Hi there!
Just wanted to add my two cents here, since this post has been already opened. I got a Gaomon M106K myself (about two weeks ago), just out of curiosity. And so far, it works pretty damn well with apps such as Krita and Clip Studio Paint, to mention a few. Unfortunately, using it with Affinity Designer it's kind of a nightmare. I'm using a 2018 16 GB MacBook Pro.
Despite, the action of painting itself has no issues at all, pressure sensitivity and tilt work perfectly, I've found these issues so far:
- Designer doesn't recognize stylus clicks at random. Doing things like selecting brushes, selecting layers or switching Personas won't work most of the times. Sometimes I restart the app, works for a while and then stops working again.
- When you press 'Option' plus clicking with the stylus to use the color picker, sometimes picks up the color, but it gets stuck picking colors all over the canvas.
- With Photo happens the same, but less often.
It might seem like a little, but when working an entire illustration with these issues happening all the time gets really frustrating. My old Wacom Intuos Draw, work flawlessly with both apps. It's a bummer, because painting with this Gaomon tablet feels a lot smoother and more precise than with my Wacom.

Thank you! We're using the same iPad models, which unfortunately makes this bug more random and difficult to tackle, because it cannot be reproduced that easily
