Hello everybody! Just wanted to let you know that yesterday Frankentoon released a new brush pack for Affinity Designer called Texturizer Pro. It's a collection of more than 50 texture brushes for being used in Pixel Persona. The brushes can be mixed together to reproduce a (super) wide range of real-life textures, from very subtle noisy ones to more extreme/destroyed surfaces. You can create super complex and organic looking results super fast and very easily. Here's an illustration I made using the pack (even works for text effects as you can see) I've been working on this pack for the last 6 months. I spent like 4 months collecting textures with my camera, then selected the more suitable for the pack, edited in Affinity Photo and after a month of work within Affinity Designer, they're finally here! Has been a blast to say the least. One of the most fun and exciting experiences in my life! So I hope you can have lots of fun messing around with your art too. You can have fun with this pack too for only: $5.99 Get more info, examples and buying options HERE

Thats sounds pretty cool! I've already made some categories for the current tuts, but they work more like tags actually. It would be nice to have some kind of menu to access the main categories in order to make the navigation simpler. Love it! Thanks a lot CartoonMike :)

Thanks a lot Joanna! Glad you liked the website :) I'll try to cover both characters and background design tutorials in even doses, because one cannot live without the other.

Hello everybody! As some of you may have noticed I haven’t uploaded any tutorials recently to www.frankentoon.com and all I can say in my defense is that this quarter has been crazy… the Frankentoon project has opened great opportunities for freelance work and I’ve been working over dreadful deadlines the last couple of months. The original goal of the website was not getting freelance work for me, but to offer simple, funny and easy-to-follow character design tutorials for Affinity users. And I really want to make more of those! In order to keep moving towards that goal, I’ve been re-structuring the way I’m managing the site. I’ll be offering some digital products in my store, so hopefully, I won’t have to rely that much on freelance work and this way I’ll have more time for writing free tutorials… which takes me to our main subject… Tutorials. This is a PARTIAL list of tutorials for 2017: Giving life to your pencil drawings with Designer Creating a video game Hero Creating a video game Villain/Boss Saving time with Adjustment Layers Comic-Style Inking with Designer Background Design: A Magical Forest Background Design: The Castle of Darkness Character Design: Pinup Girls Sketching with Affinity Designer and Pixel Persona Character Design: A Creature from Outer Space All of them sound interesting for me, but what really matter is what do YOU think. Do you find these topics interesting enough? Whats missing? What would you add to that list? What do you want to learn? What makes you struggle the most about learning Affinity Designer ? I’m still fine-tuning the plan for the first quarter of 2017, so I’ll be taking suggestions until Dec 15th. Thank you all in advance! Cheers!

Hello there! Hope you all doing great! Some of you might have seen my website Frankentoon. I have written some simple character design tutorials for Designer. So far, I've had lots of fun doing them. But, tutorials are very time-consuming to produce, hence I can't update the 'Toon Lab' section as often as I wish... So I started to brainstorm on some ways to have updates more often. And I was thinking in speed-process videos. I would divide them in 3-4 simple steps, so you can see 2-3 hours footage of my work compressed in 3-5 minutes of video. This looks very practical for me, since you'll be able to watch 'em on my website, Facebook or our Youtube channel, from any device. Another idea that came up to my mind was to have small artwork 'breakdowns', more like 'makin' of' posts, explaining in a couple of pictures my process for 'x' illustration. This way I can work on my regular tutorials with less stress, knowing that you have cool content more often. What do you think? would you be interested in this kind of content alongside the regular written tutorials? Any opinion will help me a lot here. Thanks in advance people! Enrique

Thanks a lot for your comment Alfred! That is a very, very good question. The reason? bad habits! I always forgot that Designer has more hidden functions than Illustrator. That means I'll be updating my tutorial ASAP! Thanks a lot for taking the time to point that useless workaround. My bad!

Hi retrograde! To be honest this is the first time I use Gumroad for selling digital goods, so I'm a newbie there too. I've just started this saturday. On the other hand I have a fair amount of products for sale on the Envato market. So far Envato sales are fairly generating a small extra income every month... I know I could be making more money there, but the key to success on Envato in my opinion is VOLUME. I only have 16 products in my portfolio so far. Top sellers have 50+ at least. I'm not using Envato/Graphic River for my Frankentoon project, because I think that marketplace is more generic, more marketing-trend oriented. With Gumroad you can set your prices and have a more closer relationship with your customers (based on other seller's opinons). This project is non stock-based, like Envato or Shutterstock, its more about my passion for illustration and helping other people with their own illustration projects. So I prefer to be in control of my own store for Frankentoon. This is my Graphic River Portfolio. As you can see both projects are very different from each other. Hope this info helps!

Hello everybody! Hope you all awesome people are doing terrific! I just wanted to let you know that our new Franken Packs section is up and running. We've just released a couple of packs at the moment, but we're we're working on a new one right now (this will be released in about a month). Remember that if you're a subscriber, you're gonna get some of these packs for free! I.E.: our Monster Lab Vol.1 (priced $1.99 USD) was sent to our subscribers a couple of weeks ago. If you subscribed after the pack was sent, you won't be able to get it for free anymore. But hey!, you can still subscribe today and receive our future free packs, previews, demos and promo codes right in your inbox. Our next Premium Franken Pack will be called 'Nature Elements Vol.1' and it's gonna be a collection of 100+ nature objects for Affinity Designer, aimed to help you to design your own outdoor backgrounds without all the pain of drawing every single element by yourself. All of these packs will be modular, so you'll be able to expand them and combine them with each other (like the LEGO system :D). By the way, this 'Nature Elements Vol.1' will feature a FREE Lite version for subscribers only and will be sent within 10 days. So check out this new section and please share your thoughts and suggestions, I would love to know what you think. Cheers!
