I used Pagemaker for years for my 1200-page monthly publication, then InDesign for a few more while writing books based on historical research, and then one book while floundering hopelessly through iPages grim and extremely elementary interface.  I cannot wait until Publisher is commercially ready so I can begin re-editing several LONG books using this lovely new publishing software and completely redoing the iPages clunker.  Affinity Publisher has a learning curve, but that is fine with me.   There are magnificent options tucked away in the Studio panels and the context menus.   Keeps one’s brain from atrophy.  Meanwhile, as I chug along with these betas, I am noting all the “bugs” and “suggestions” that relate to my work, and am creating my own Help document, mostly comprised of screenshots of questions and helpful answers.   I am up to 103 pages (lots of white space in those screenshots!) and use them to learn all kinds of things it might have taken me ages to learn on my own.
Thank you, Affinity, for these forums.   And thank you most of all for this grand Publisher-to-be.

As another old dog (age 77), I find the workbook much more helpful than trying to learn from the videos.  I recommend going through all of those chapters that pertain to your photographic interests or needs, & doing those lessons with the download files.  Then I have gone back & created notes from my underlined text in each chapter which hopefully will become a workflow outline for my use of AP.  The process of returning has helped to reinforce the skills they work to develop.  Now I plan on just seeking out those videos needed to fill in the holes that may still exist when I start to really use the app as my photo editor.  But the lessons have already got me using my camera differently to be able to incorporate things learned from the workbook, like exposure bracketing, which I had never done before.

Why so much talking about TIF? We have now a APhoto file format and when the trio will be completed (soon), we can forget TIF, PSD and other bitmap and vector formats. There are online converters which can help to convert files to the best file format that Affinity trio can accept.

Hey again, just checking in to offer a new video, this one focuses on creating an HDR result from one RAW exposure (as opposed to merging bracketed exposures):

@Chinderah Have you tried the online help at https://affinity.help ? It's searchable and printable (just click the print icon on the left hand menu), and it works well on tablets/phones so you could have it as a reference whilst you work on your desktop machine.

Hello all, just reappearing briefly to post a new video! It covers how to achieve the Orton effect in Photo. I've seen various videos and guides that more or less replicate the Photoshop method, but that's a destructive approach, and I wanted to demonstrate a few tweaks to make it non-destructive. Hope you find it useful!

Huion has some graphics tablets redesigned and with new drivers
and new firmware equipped. (version 13.15.16) with this series,
there are probably no problems. But the predecessor series makes problems, (version 12.3.7)
when the graphics tablet connected to a Windows PC. Even if no driver is installed.
My guess is that the firmware is the wrongdoer.
According to statement of Huion, can the firmware for these devices not be updated.

OK - Huion has 3 similar tablets - for me on Windows 7 Pro the newest version with updated firmware https://www.huiontablet.com/all-products/graphic-tablets/huion-new-1060-plus-159.html runs smooth with AP Beta 101 as well as with AP release version. In addition I tried the following:
On VMware® Workstation 12 Player, 12.5.9 build-7535481 I installed on the latest Windows 10 version the same driver and testing with paint showed the host tablet hardware works as well. In addition the device manager show the same behaviour as on Windows 7 host - no pens listed bat the HUION HID device.
See attached screenshot of VMWare Player window - In this combination the tablet runs fine and hard for developers (do they use VMs for testin?) to find any misbehaviour.

Maybe related to Windows 10 - on my Windows 7 Pro with Huion New 1060 PLUS with driver HuionTablet_WinDriver_v13.15.2 from September 11, 2017 there is no problem and no HID conform Pen is listed but a HUION HID item.
Prior to deciding to buy early this year I learned that sometimes installation of wrong drivers can give undesired results. My working driver is from Driver for HUION NEW 1060 PLUS(8192) on the download section from https://www.huiontablet.com/all-products/graphic-tablets/huion-new-1060-plus-159.html

Here's a test using a recent raw shot. f32, 30sec, ISO50 using Sony A7R2 and FE24-240. Test controls for all images is shadows right up, highlights right down. Notable differences!
    Original:

Affinity 1.6.1.93 - Note muddying of shadows.

    Affinity 1.6.3.98 - massive improvement!

Photoshop CS6 - less improvement of shadows, greater pulling back of highlights

Lightroom 6 - unsurprisingly similar to Photoshop CS6

DxO OpticsPro 11 - much more extreme shadows treatment (is similar to Affinity at about 50%)

ON1 Photo Raw 2018 - very little change in highlight, less improvement in shadows, good colour control

Luminar 2018, similar to ON1 Photo Raw 2018

If I was to choose one, it would be Affinity. DxO is too extreme in shadows. ON1 and Luminar are less effective, especially in highlights. I would like more highlight control, though - note how the white car headlight streams are separated by Photoshop/Lightroom.

I am also using a Huion 1060Plus (Huion_1060plus_V12.3.7 Driver) on Windows 10, therefore it should be working for you.  Do you mean it doesn't work at all, or just the pen pressure isn't working?
If it's just pen pressure that isn't working, then check that the brush you are using in Affinity Photo is one that's set to use pen pressure to control the brush size.
Different brushes have different default settings depending on what they were created to draw like or mimic.  Some are a constant size, some change size or opacity/flow depending on pen pressure, etc.  The default basic round brush in Affinity Photo however is a constant size brush (I.E. It isn't set to use pen pressure for brush size control by default), which may be why you don't think the pen is working correctly.
Therefore try this first.  With the Brush tool selected, click the 'Force Pressure to Control Size' button next to the 'More' button in the brush context bar at the top.  This will override the brushes size jitter setting in brush dynamics and use pen pressure for brush size control.
If the pen then works with 'Force Pressure to Control Size' on, I'd turn it back off and go through all the different default Affinity Photo brushes in the brushes panel and see if you can find a brush that draws like you want it to.
In addition, if there's a particular brush where you want to permanently override the default brush settings, then you can do so by doing the following.

    1) Select the brush you want to modify in the Brushes panel
    2) Click on the brush settings icon in the top right corner
    3) Click on the 'Dynamics' tab
    4) Change the desired setting to 'Pressure' and adjust the slider

Just want to thanks about that. I've bought Affinity Designer, then Affinity Photo. I 'll probably buy Affinity Publisher then. This idea is for me a kind of customer respect, with a good product. Some of my friends use a not so legal version of Illustrator, none of them makes illegal copies of Affinity Products.

    Thanks for this, really.

    THE REASON
This is due to historic use of the erase brush in other files as a normal erase brush being carried over into new files using 'overlay erase brush'. There is no way, when using the overlay brush tool, of accessing a brush dialogue, so this cannot be changed without closing a file. It took me some time to get to this. The overlay brush tool really should have an independent existence. These are RAW files; I don't use JPEG. Hope this is helpful MEB!

Once again I tested the work of lights and shadows. Details on the video.
If raw is good, then light and shadow work very well. Increasing the clarity no longer looks terrible.
At the end of the video, in the RAW module, almost HDR is sawed. Only HSL for the selected colors is missing.
Thanks to the developers for the work done! Keep it up!
