  1. Just tested Affinity installer in latest Bottles update and doesn't trow that NET 3.5 not found error. The rest is the same so still flickering and other problems we had. So now its possible to just create a new Application bottle bulk install allfonts, dotnet40, dotnet48 from Dependencies with Caffe as runner and the installer works. Although using a Custom config is more simple since it's setting up everything 😆
  2. Sorry to hear you can't test it, but i think there are other problems that need to be fixed on your system since it works for other people here.
  3. You can always switch to X11 from login screen and see if it makes a difference. Are u running latest version of Bottles ? Just do a flatpak update in terminal to be sure. L.E. And off course i forgot the most important thing you can launch with Terminal from menu and check the errors you get
  4. Maybe do a clean reinstall of Bottles either by removing it from Software Center and then go to ~/.var/app/ and manualy delete com.usebottles.bottles then reinstall or by using Terminal : flatpak uninstall Bottles --delete-data then flatpak install Bottles Don't forget to do a Full Backup on existent bottles u want to restore after reinstall.
  5. Actually i think this is a bug in Bottles for now - but they have a 2 week release cycles between versions. In order to make it work for now create a custom bottle and import the yml configuration file as a Custom Recepie - and the most important part chose Caffe as Runner - if u don't have it on that list use Preferences in main window to install it prior to creation. After you install the programs you need to Change Launch Options for each program and add --no-hw-ui to the Command Arguments and you are good to go 😆 After that the programs will run - sorta - since Publisher it's actually unusable crashing without reason just by looking at it - and also if all of them are started together they kinda work on turns - so for now one at a time is safe bet : > L.E : Bottles just got new update with more goodies : https://usebottles.com/blog/release-2022.7.14/ L.L.E : Made slimmed down configuration file to install Affinity in Bottles (deleted everything inside i didn't find necessary) and attached here. The setup files i'm using are the ones i got directly from my serif account and they install without problem. AffinityCustomBottleRecipe.yml
  6. @jaizon : if u scroll up on that page i asked the same thing and Renzatic posted the config file i used :
  7. Serif software licenses have nothing to do with Microsoft software licenses. Your super specific use case scenario doesn't have anything to do with this topic. I ask you not to continue with a river of text explaining that because "PDF Databases" don't work for you is the reason Serif doesn't offer a Linux version of their software.
  8. If u run it thru Wine u use the Windows license you already have, the same way u wouldn't pay to run it in a Windows VM. When Serif launches a Linux version then yes we can talk about another OS that they can charge for.
  9. You don't need SteamOS to run games under Linux. You just install Steam, Lutris, Bottles, etc and you are good to go, unless you own an Nvidia GPU : from official Valve Proton The experience is seamless, and if it wasn't for the pop-up that inform you the game runs thru Proton the 1st time you install it and start it , u wouldn't even know it's not native. Also if a game i play doesn't work nice with custom GE Proton that has latest updates i can switch the the ones provided by Valve I play all my games on Linux, in fact beside the Windows allocated SSD all other storage is EXT4 formatted
  10. Sadly i don't do Windows VMs, only Fedora Silverblue, since i intend to fully upgrade to that in the future (not ready yet for my setup) and next Fedora versions before hitting the Upgrade button. For my other needs i use Podman containers managed before by Fedora Toolbox and now by Distrobox. Last time i tried Windows in Boxes was 17 june 2021 when that W11 leak gone out : That non-removable Recommended ADs sections is still there 1 year later so yeah nope. But then again old Windows is still one F11 press away at PC Boot to chose the 250GB nvme it's rotting on, if i really really need to run something there which i don't since is just an inferior experience : >
  11. Since Serif doesn't support the Linux platform and some of us already posted the Affinity in a Bottle experiences on this forum, i don't think that is a question worth answered at this moment in time. A valid one would be how good is the Wacom experience with Krita, Blender etc but that is just a search away on the web. I would check the improvements from time to time when there is a major new Wine release or an Affinity software update, but i don't intend wasting my time with this software in the current form. It's just a stressful unpleasant experience when everything else just works : >
  12. Wacom Leads the Way with Drawing Tablets for Linux : > Everything works out-the-box without u having to install anything, since they are included in the Linux Kernel like AMD or Intel hardware. There is even a Wacom section in Settings if u have a tablet :
  13. My intention was never to spam anybody with useless notifications , i am just simply pinpointing who i'm responding to without filling my posts with tons of quotes like u see here. Also without quoting your 2nd post : you don't really know what we will be able to do or not do in the future with or without Serif help. Last time i checked Affinity software didn't come with transparency or shader effects on closing windows like u see in my low quality recording ; >
  14. @chiddekel They just need to setup flatpak on the distro used (ChromeOS included) using quick guide here : https://flatpak.org/setup/ and then use software manager to get it : They need to update description since the app have already been ported to GTK4 and libawaita so no more legacy windowing : >
  15. Made a video of running Affinity Photo on my Fedora Workstation 36 thru Bottles AffinityPhotoFedora.mp4 Sorry for lower quality just installed OBS Studio Flatpak and run the auto-configuration wizard at start.
  16. I didn't change anything to your configuration, in fact i couldn't even install it before - it was complaining NET 3.5 was not enabled, the Bottles Runtime option enabled in configuration did the trick - i never use it ; > My GPU uses the included open-source Mesa drivers - changelogs here : https://docs.mesa3d.org/relnotes.html and feature matrix here : https://mesamatrix.net/ , in your case u should check Nvidia forums they post Linux problems from time to time : https://forums.developer.nvidia.com/t/wayland-information-for-r515-beta-release/214275 - from what i see there Wayland is no go for Nvidia GPUs L.E. Also you might wanna check this blog post : https://blog.froggi.es/bringing-vulkan-raytracing-to-older-amd-hardware/ by Joshua Ashton from Valve that works with Bas Nieuwenhuizen from Google on Mesa drivers
  17. Still flickers on menu appearing over canvas even with WARP on : and also : >
  18. @Frozen Death Knight From my point of view Linux on Desktop is already a great platform for developing and distributing software with the introduction of Flatpak (i know i'm biased here since i use Fedora Workstation and want to go full immutable on Silverblue) that is actually decades away into the future from Microsoft UWP crapware : > Even with those billions in their pockets they chose to make their anti-cheat run thru a translation layer and not native the same way they didn't make their Game Store Launcher available on Linux like Valve does with Steam that is also offered as a flatpak Disabling hardware acceleration sounds more like putting salt on wound then fixing something. The canvas still flashes and flickers when u open menus so not really a fix.
  19. Well they can't go after me or you, but if they wanted they could go after Wine , off course they need to be real stupid to do so but never say never : >
  20. Well it's their problem not mine or Wine community, i already moved on. This is a commercial closed-source software so i don't think spending community time to reverse engineering their software (which should be illegal if we look at all closed-source software EULAS) to see why it doesn't work. It's the same way as with Windows games anti-cheat : Epic made Easy Anti-Cheat available on Linux thru Proton and Wine not Valve or the community. Also since Serif business model is to sell a unique non-sharable license on every platform they support i'm 100% sure not only that they won't support the Wine community, but make sure in the future that their Windows Apps will never install on Wine again : >
  21. I have an AMD RX 580 like in screenshot so it just works out the box, next card will also be AMD when prices stabilize for 6800 XT, so no problems here running Apps or Games on Wayland, everything is butter smooth. The canvas flashing is related only to Affinity products, i tried Sketchup that actually uses the GPU and didn't experience any of the flashing problems i see in Affinity. P.S. Bought my Affinity Photo and Designer in 2016 , and Publisher when was available and also their books from Amazon, but since i switched fully to Fedora i'm not interested in running the Microsoft ADs OS just for Affinity. So yeah 1 lost customer, that before wanted to pay for version 2 but now doesn't care since it's not available on Linux. Also i think it's lost opportunity for Affinity to gain free advertising and be the 1st "Adobe like" commercial software on Linux ;> the same way Valve is now synonyme with Linux gaming thru their work on Proton.
  22. Same results, flashing canvas, but not so bad as yours. Well it's a start - but then again is up to Affinity to make it compatible if they don't want to make a native version - like all the other companies that are releasing Steam Deck updates for their Windows only games. For those who don't know Steam Deck has a immutable Arch based Linux OS (like Fedora Silverblue) supporting only Flatpak Apps and running Windows games thru Proton : That's exactly how Wine works translating Windows API calls to Linux API calls and not emulating anything.
  23. @Renzatic : Can u attach the Affinity bottle exported configuration yml file ?
  24. You actually fail to understand the purpose of Gnome Boxes : it's just a very simplified interface to allow you to use/create fast and easy of virtual machines - hence the auto-download of distros and quick no hands install : > No one is stopping u from opening Virtual Machine Manager (virt-manager) and making your own custom virtual machine or even modify the one made in Gnome Boxes since the underlying virtualization tools used by both programs is the same : >
  25. The problem is related to Internet Explorer 8 at least in my case on Windows 7. Everyone not seeing the offer go to Help(F1) and check if u are getting outdated browser message. If that's the case update Internet Explorer 8 to 11 thru Windows Update , etc. After that it can be again disabled thru Control Panel > Programs and Features > Turn Windows features on or off
