  1. Affinity Photo is an excellent editor, but a bad raw converter. Chromatic aberration works very poorly because it is corrected after the image has been developed. Photoninja, DXO, Rawtherapee and Lightroom, for example, work at an earlier stage in the development. The result is perfect in these programs! If you try using Defringe to help chromatic aberration to improve, the outcome affected larger areas of color even in the middle of the picture. Defringe does not impress. Another thing: Choosing Apple (Core Image Raw) causes me to get a black image if the Raw file is from my Canon 600D. Other Raw files are ok. All Raw files works with Serif Lab. I give up and use Rawtherapee today for my Raw files and Affinity Photo for everything else. It works.
  2. I have pointed out time after time that Affinity Photo for PC and iPad has the worst Raw converter of all the programs I tried and it is especially the inability to remove chromatic aberration and defringe that makes the converter useless for most of my images. One can forget about a response from Serif, maybe because they have a problem they can not solve. They also have a problem with plugins in Photo Persona, as well as switch between 16 and 32 bits Raw output in Develop Assist in Develop Persona (never sure if the setting is accepted). Affinity Photo can do a lot of stuff but the basic features of a good Raw converter are not present. Designer and Affinity Photo are filled with small errors, but not so bad that it matters, but I can not use the raw converter. I'm using other programs today. It's smart to switch between Photo and Develop persona, but I think this is where we have the cause of the problems I refer to. There is something they have not taken into account!. See below on the pictures, how big the difference is with photos developed in PhotoNinja and Affinity Photo when it comes to chromatic aberration. Try it yourself with the attached Raw file IMG_4841.CR2
  3. I have tried to convert the CR2 files from my Canon 600D to DNG using Adobe's DNG converter. All of my programs mentioned earlier can read the DNG except Affinity Photo if installed on a Mac from late 2009. My son and I both have a Mac from 2009 and the error occurs on both machines. My son does not have any external monitor connected to his MAC. My Macbook and the son's Macbook, which are only a few years old, have no problems. My wife's Mac a few years old works fine with my CR2 Raw files. Now I do not want to research more about the problem for the Raw converter in Affinity Photo is so bad to remove chromatic aberration compared to, for example, Lightroom, PhotoNinja and Rawtherapee that I can not use it. Images converted into Affinity Photos Raw engine are less sharp in those areas where there is chromatic aberration. This is also true in Affinity Photo for iPad. It also uses Apple's Raw Engine and it is clear that Apple has changed the raw data and removed noise. I have purchased an App (Raw converter) and again the result is better than that Affinity Photo for iPad shows. If chromatic aberration or defringe is turned on or not, nothing changes in the image. There is room for improvement also in Affinity Photo for iPad. Thank you for your help
  4. My son has a Mac 2009 late and a little more powerful. He has the same problem. On his newer Mac there are no problem!
  5. I have probably not explained it well enough. I've tried to unmount the extra monitor from my Mac completely restarted and only use the Mac's 27 "and it did not solve the problem. It's strange that Pixelmator, Affinity Designer, ApplePhotos and Apple Image viewer can use Apple's Raw Engine without any problems. Thank you for your efforts
  6. it is OpenGL and I can not switch them. Metal is gray and can not be selected. I have tried the 2 other settings and it did not change anything
  7. same result. earlier with both monitors connected. Apple Engine worked ok
  8. I clarify. I only experience the problem when it's a Raw file taken with my Canon 600D and only when I open the file in Affinity Photo 1.6.7 with the Apple engine selected. With the Serif engine its OK ????
  9. Now I have reinstalled Affinity Photo. Same result. If I open the file in Designer or Apple's image viewer, there are no issues. If I replace Apple Engine with Serif, there are no problems either.
  10. Raw files from, for example, Canon 400D and others open without problems. MacOS and Affinity Photo are the same versions that you use. I'm trying with a new install of Affinity. I usually use a Raw Converter PhotoNinja (much much better to remove chromatic aberration and Defringe). It takes 100 years to get the same result in Affinity Photo. Unfortunately! I have first discovered this problem when updating Affinity Photo. I only responded because something is not working properly. I always do.
  11. Affinity Photo 1.6.7 does not work with Apple Raw Ebgine. What's wrong?
  12. Sorry for my messy language, but English is not my native language! I bough Affinity Photo for more than a year ago, and I've been using it regularly ever since. I think it is excellent software. Equal to Adobe Photoshop, if not better. Affinity Photo is built in a smart way. This is often the case with brand new software. The program is more logically built up. I really enjoy the user interface. But there is still room for improvement especially in Develop Persona, where a few things wonder me. More about that later! Latest news. It is also possible to bay Affinity Photo for iPad and for those who prefer a Windows PC, the program is in the meantime also available for that platform. Super! We are on the right track! There is no reason to tell you about all the excellent solutions, that this program has. Instead, I want to concentrate on those things, that do not work very well for me. I have purchased many plugins for Photoshop. None of them works in Affinity Photo and there is no indication showing whether it will ever happen. It’s true, there is one exception and that’s the Nik Collection and only Viveza 2 in that collection have some serious problems. For some reason, no one takes care of it. No one tells us about the problems Affinity Photo have with Plugins and why. Will there be a solution in the future or does Affinity Photo not care about that option? I hope there are lights ahead. As mentioned. I do not like everything in Develop Persona. The filter Chromatic Aberration have no effect at all. Let's say almost no effect. It's bad for my pictures, that suffer a lot from colored edges. I expect to see something change on the picture, when I turn the filter on, but almost nothing happen, and there is no way to manually correct for this optical problem. If you use Defringe to remove Chromatic Aberration, there is a risk of affecting the colors in random places and the image will not be as sharp as it could have been. In Photo Persona you can also choose to correct for chromatic Aberration. Again, the function is automatic and almost without visible result. I have never before seen photo editing software attempt to remove Chromatic Aberration on an RGB image with gamma curves, automatically. In some applications, you can do it manually, but the result is not optimal on a RGB image with gamma curves. Is Develop Persona designed to make it easier to switch back and forth between Photo Persona and Develop Persona, only for reusing features in Develop Persona? If so, I think that's a bad idea. It is not a feature that other providers offer in the same way. As far as I know Instead, I would prefer Develop Persona to primarily develop Raw files in the best way. Perhaps it will also be possible to change the Raw output format without having to start over and reopen the same file again. Raw Output Format is probably performed just before Develop, and despite that, it is not possible to change the Output format at that time. I gladly give up some of the existing features in the Develop Persona and the possibility to access Develop Persona from Photo Persona. If that's the price! Chromatic aberration must be removed at an earlier stage and that means before using a demosaicing algorithm. It is clear to me, that Affinity Photo reuse the same poor filter from Develop Persona in Photo Persona. Competitors to Affinity Photo have no problem getting the Chromatic Aberration filter to work and they remove Chromatic Aberration only in the Raw converter and not elsewhere. Until the problems with chromatic Aberration are resolved, I have to use another Raw converter.
  13. You still have a chromatic aberration button that does not work. Hope that something will be done soon. The same feature in the PC edition is just as bad
  14. I hope the Affinity Photo programmers will access these URLs and read about the issue. I just bought Affinity Photo for iPad and found that the Chormatic Aberation feature is accurate just as badly (has no effect). Affinity Photo for PC and iPad are both excellent products, but their raw conversion is nothing to write home about.
  15. The Apple Raw engine is not a good choice because Apple produces an RGB image where luminance noise and chrominance noise is already removed. It does not help with the Chrominance Aberration feature. To remove lateral Chromins Aberration, it must be performed on the image before demosaicing and not as in Affinity Photo on an RGB image with gamma curves and with constant value throughout the image. Auto correction divides the image into blocks and apply the required values to each block and as mentioned, before demosaicing. I think that's why it's bad in Affinity Photo
