Sorry to hear about your issue.
Fore the future it is advisable to export your assets on regular basis, to avoid running into the same issue again.
Do not save into the default folders. Create separate folder(s) outside the Photo / Designer path for all valuable documents, and exports of assets. Copy them to a cloud service or backup device.
Everything inside the default folders could get lost if you deinstalls the Apps.

Welcome to the Serif Affinity Forums, @bcowo.
It would be helpful to know which tool(s) you’re trying to use, but the Pen Tool has ‘Line’ and ‘Polygon’ modes that may help here.

The Snapping toggle is always visible in Affinity Designer on iPad. Are you using Affinity Photo?

You can’t just  'make' a template file you have to start with an ordinary file (File New),  then add your fill layer with a Gradient, then use the Document menu 'Export as template' command to save your work as a template file.
Once you have done that you can use New File from Template and navigate to your template. The new file will contain the fill layer with Gradient.

The attached recording shows process from start to finish. Making a template. Opening a new file based on the template and adding a photo then selecting and masking. I didn’t have a masked photo available to use so just added the mask after placing the photo. If your photos are already masked you won’t need to do that again.

True for Designer, but the same situation exists in Photo, and no rubbish bin is provided there. Just another inconsistency between app development teams.

DM1 Thank you for your reply.
The cause was a simple mistake.
The Apple Pencil could not be used because the Alpha protection was enabled.
I may be the only one who didn't notice this simple mistake, but let me explain in detail.
Alpha protection is the alpha button on the left side of the bar color setting that appears at the bottom of the iPad screen.
This was the first time I used the alpha protection feature and I found it very useful.
    Thank you.

I 'm not convinced that the difference is cause by jpeg compression.
But it is next to impossible to rate the sharpness based on screenshots only.
First, screenshots need to be made at 100% zoom level. The rendering in the preview app might be unsharp by the chosen zoom factor.
@johnsane any chance you can upload the raw file, and the exported jpg?

To compare the Affinity photo file vs. the jpg, simply use "Place" to add the jpg image to the top of the layer stack. use the transform panel / alignment to position it exactly to start at x/y 0. You can compare the files by several methods:
cycle the layer active/hidden to visually inspect change blend mode to "difference" for top layer. Identical pixels will be shown black, all differences non-black. You may add a levels adjustment, with "white level" set to 10%, to amplify any differences by factor 10. Inspect again. You should only notice jpeg compression artifacts (edges on 8x8 pixel blocks, color deviation, banding). Jpeg could look even sharper based on these artifacts.

DM1 got a reaction from Alfred in Selecting and duplicate only a part of picture Affinity Photo
This has been highlighted before but 'by design' was the outcome. To me it makes more sense to have it available in Selection persona, but I guess a selection is nothing more than a series of moving ants until you change to a non selection tool or output highlighted. 'selection' as another layer, at which time it’s just another layer, hence back to Photo persona to do anything with it.

    Yes.
Exposure = Exposure, Blackpoint/Whitepoint = Levels, Shadows = Shadows/Highlights etc etc plus many more Adjustments and Filters that are not available in Develop Persona.

I’d gotten it to 300 dpi (up from the initial 144). Could go no further this morning. No feedback / app quits.
Tried again, this time just waited for the interface to “blink.” Checked the resolution and it’d been increased. Tried again and another increase. Got it up to 600dpi, which was my goal.
I was waiting for the “Apply” button to get a blue ring around it; that never happened. The blink seems to be the tell.

    Thank you

Select layer and tap Gradient tool. The Gradient 'controls' will appear and you can reposition/change colours and or opacity etc. Try it and see what is possible.

DM1 got a reaction from Paul Mudditt in Is there a “smoothing” setting in affinity designer for the iPad?
Hi Dan, sorry to hear about the health issues. No smoothing as such but it does have a stabiliser setting that may help (rope and Windows stabiliser) when drawing or painting. The effect with and without stabiliser using a shaky drawing motion is shown below. Hope this helps a little. 🙂
Pretty sure no demo version available  for iPad but maybe is for desktop. Unfortunately you have just missed out on affinity’s 50% discount on both which ended recently.

Not sure how this is done in Lightroom but to selectively apply adjustments or filters in Photo you can add an empty mask to the filter/adjustment layer and paint white on the mask to apply effect to unmasked area. If no filter/adjustment layer available you can first use the selection tool to select the area you wish to apply effect to then apply the filter/adjustment. It will be restricted to the active selection. I would output the selection to a new layer and apply the adjustment to that  layer can be easily removed to restore original look.

Augusta, you must have misunderstood what was said in the other thread. If you want to be able to 'adjust' your Gradient (by adjust I mean change colours or position of existing Gradient) you must use a FILL layer. You don’t need to worry about resizing a fill layer as it always fill the canvas area.
Check out this post by Alfred.

Hi Augusta, you need to carefully read and follow the directions provided.
I am assuming that you have some photos that have been masked in affinity photo. Is so, you need to open them, set the canvas to transparent and export them as png. Save them to your photo library. In the Export screen, tap Share, and tap Save Image. The png photo will now be in your library.
When your png photos are in the library, open a New from Template file to create your Gradient file. Now you can use Place image (from Library) to place your png photo. Size to. Suit and you are finished.
    But…
If you have photos that are not masked you can simply place them in the new Gradient file and do the selection and masking there.

Have a play with it, follow the directions and see how you go before asking more questions😉.

The filters work on 'Selection' edges in pixel layers not mask layers. Try outputting your selection as a 'new' layer, ( no mask), then apply the filter to that new pixel layer. The effect should then be evident.
If still having an issue, do you have a sample project that you could attach?

Ok this is a little confusing, nevertheless let me try this a couple of times untill I get a hang of how this works. I will come back if I have any question on this.
