DM1 got a reaction from Paul Mudditt in Cannot open document
They are stored in the sandbox. This demonstrates why using the Save option is so important. It ensures they are added to the external version.
I should have also suggested setting the auto save interval to the lowest setting to see if that makes an effect.

If you wanted to use raster brushes.. There was a new set 'Ink Stipple' added to the library recently that you may find useful.

Blame how iPadOS memory management works. Affinity, unlike 99% of other Apps uses lots of RAM to store edit history etc, earlier iPad Pro’s had very little RAM so when you tasks switch iPadOS forces RAM to be freed up for the next application if there isn’t sufficient RAM free. This results in Affinity having no control of the situation and your current unsaved project steps are lost or worse your project is corrupted.
I just upgraded from first generation iPad Pro 9.7” (2GB RAM) where lost data used to happen a lot to M1 iPad Pro 11” 8GB RAM where it never seems to occur.

Automatic saving into the internal sandbox depends on this setting, the default is 300 seconds,I set mine to 30 seconds. However there is still opportunities to lose you work so you should also manually rename your work and save your work outside of the Affinity sandbox occasionally.

Interesting video for sure Paul. Thanks for posting. Typically, I do save all my work to iCloud, as well as 3 additional drives. Can’t be too careful…. I do though like to have the folders in the app simply for convenience of reopening.

When you add a vertical guide it is initially positioned in the centre of your canvas. When you add a horizontal guide it is also centred. You can adjust them too. Just select Guides to get the guide context menu at the bottom then tap the guide you want to adjust. It turns dotted then you can reposition it.🙂

Thanks a lot DM1 😉
About the verticals and horizontals lines I found what Affinity calls "guides" under grid icon in the first menu, that are what I was looking for.

DM1 got a reaction from Alfred in Affinity Photo Hang, How does the Affinity Photo Desktop Work
The Document menu Save option only appears if the document has been previously saved. Saving creates a link between sandbox file and saved file. If you use Save a Copy, it does exactly that, creates a new file that is a 'copy' of your current file. Keep in mind the 'copy' is not the file you are currently editing!
A suggested work flow is;
After creating a new file, go to the Home screen and tap the three bars below your new files' icon. Tap Rename and give it a suitable name. After doing that tap the three bars again and tap Save. This way you create a 'named' file in the default save Affinity folder and get the Save menu option appearing in the Document menu. Use it often. This 'saved' file is linked to the sandbox version. If you close the sandbox version you can simply reopen the file from the Affinity folder and proceed from there. Affinity simply recreates the new sandbox version in the apps restricted memory. A bit like using Favourites to reopen saved tabs in a browser.
Also keep in mind that if you close a file in the Home/Project screen menu without having first saved it, that file is gone for good. No external copy available to use to 'recreate the working sandboxed version.
Likewise should an unsaved sandboxed file become corrupted for some reason ( and from posts seen here it is an 'not infrequent' occurrence), your work will be inaccessible with virtually no way of recovering it. Not good at all.
The quote was taken from the last paragraph of your post that preceded my own. In fact it is still visible now.🙂

Thanks, @DM1, and sorry for the delay.
I can confirm that Publisher refuses to open your test PDF file for me.
Adobe Acrobat Reader opens it just fine.
PDF-XChange Editor says:
In my experience, the Affinity applications generally refuse to open PDF files that have any kind of error, even minor ones that other applications may ignore.

On the text, turn off the outline effects, instead change the stroke colour to black and align stroke to outside which is same as how your effects outline were set up.

You may have more luck with exporting as pdf.

Sorry, I should have specified ‘Mode’ options (and/or posted a screenshot). Tapping on where it says ‘New’ at the bottom of the screen will make a list pop up; alternatively, you can tap on the ‘<‘ or ‘>’ buttons on either side of the current option to scroll through the others.

DM1 reacted to Paul Mudditt in Recovery of lost data
Under preferences, change the default save location to be iCloud. It is very unfortunate that iPadOS deletes the OnMyiPad folder associated with any App when it is uninstalled, however it leaves the iCloud folder equivalent alone so it is preferential to always use save in iCloud instead.

DM1 reacted to Paul Mudditt in Can't save file opened from cloud back to Dropbox?
Do you mean the .afphoto file that you saved or the image file (jpg, tif etc) you exported? You cannot save an image file only export one.
You cannot open an image file edit it and save it back on itself on the iPad like you can do on the desktop, you need to export the edited image so in Dropbox you will have the original and the modified exported image.

To reset the pressure curve on iPad. If you want to continue the work on the Mac, there is a Mac version of AD. Just use open from cloud on iPad and edits will be saved to the file. Then use open from cloud on the Mac to continue the changes later.

DM1 reacted to bananayoshimoto in how to apply the exact same dimension style over multiple vector files/ projects
Got my answer through an easy workaround.
Connecting the styles’ fill tool handles to an axis and maintaining the same length when applying to different shapes gives the same style size no matter the shapes applied.
All the best!

DM1 got a reaction from vzla0094 in Selecting multiple layers on iPad
Not actually a question.....
In the desktop version a number of demos show multiple layers selected. On the iPad I was not aware how to do this and haven't seen it documented. Now I know how to do it!
I have just found that if you touch on the right side of a layer and drag across to the left side it will select that layer without deselecting other layers. In this way you can select as many layers as you wish.
