Check your settings. Import as text (not pixel layers).🙂

You need to lift your adjustment layer in the layers studio and nest it with the fence layer you want it to affect.
Alternatively if the fence is not on its own layer then create a selection of the fence and the adjustment will only affect the fence.

Hi,
there are multiple possible factors:
Layers mis-aligned to fractional pixel positions (non-zero digits right from decimal point). As your screenshot shows fractional positions, I suspect this is causing the problem in your specific case. layer FX like shadow / blur / outline can increase the size of objects Anti-aliasing leads to additional semi-transparent edge Pixels -

For clarity, Save a Copy is always available. It’s the Save option that appears after having saved any file.😉

Be aware that it is a copy, not the file you are currently working on. You can use Open from Cloud to navigate to this copy, open it and then when you save, the edits will be saved to the folder you placed your 'copy' in. It is now the active file.

Do this non-destructivey by adding a pixel later above.
Use the inpainting tool, set to 100% opacity, 100% flow, 100% hardness with a small brush size and set to This Layer and Below.

That's a better method Paul. I'd actually forgotten about the clipping method! Another year older another memory gone😂.

DM1 reacted to Paul Mudditt in Cropping layers
In Photo, @DM1 solution above is one way I had not tried before and looks to be a good option.
However my preferred method is to clip a layer using a shape, the reason I prefer this method is that it is non-destructive and the cropping can be adjusted easily.

DM1 reacted to Dan C in Big lines appearing while drawing on vectorial mode
Thanks for your recording!
With the Vector Brush tool selected, and a brush that supports pressure variance, the pressure curve adjustment can be applied to drawn strokes, selected on the canvas. You can't however apply a pressure curve to the tool itself, which is why you're seeing this reset to default after changing the curve.
For example:
Select the Vector Brush Tool Select a brush that supports pressure variance Draw your stroke Adjust the Pressure Curve as required
At this point, you should see the curve update with your applied pressure, but as you still have the Vector Brush tool selected, the value will return to default after each change - this won't affect the pressure you've just applied to the curve, assuming you don't select the Pressure Curve line again. If you want to change the pressure applied to this curve without the pressure graph resetting, you need to directly select the Curve using the Node Tool. Once you've selected the Curve, you'll see the pressure graph has retained your changes, and can be further adjusted as required.
As you've found, it's not possible to force the Pressure graph to use retained settings for each new Curve you draw, it will always be reset to default and this is By Design.
I hope this clears things up

DM1 got a reaction from Paul Mudditt in Cropping layers
My mistake Walt. I did not explain clearly. Having another go.🙂
Assuming Photo app and you have placed several images. Select the image (raster) that you want to crop. You can untick the others to clear the canvas but not essential. Now apply crop tool to selected layer and adjust the handles to suit. Tick Context menu to action the crop. Now with the single cropped layer selected use layer studio command Rasterise and Trim. This step makes the crop permanent. Now use Document menu and Canvas/Unclip canvas to restore document canvas. You can now tick hidden layers to show on canvas. Your rasterised and trimmed layer will remain cropped. The rest of your documents images will be unaffected (unless they have previously been cropped but not rasterised/trimmed).
Cropping is a non destructive action that effectively resizes the canvas to only reveal the cropped image. Unclipping canvas effectively undoes a crop. Hence Rasterise and trim makes the crop permanent (destructive).

While waiting for a Moderator to respond can I suggest the following actions:
1. Close all other apps (you don’t want other apps running in background or iPadOS will share ram with them.
2. Perform a hard reset to release any ram reserved for other apps. (Varies according to iPad model but try holding power switch off. Should eventually reboot iPad with Apple logo showing, then open only Affinity and try again.
Finally, I see you have a lot of projects in your Gallery/Project screen. This seems to be a common factor in posts relating to files not opening etc. I’d strongly suggest saving your work outside the apps sandbox and even removing ones that you are not using, from the sandbox. (Just my opinion, but offers much less chance of losing some or even all of your precious projects).
If you haven’t manually saved your files outside of the app I recommend immediately backing up your iPads content to iCloud or another desktop, then read the post linked below.

DM1 reacted to walt.farrell in Imported Images Distorted - Affinity Photo iPad
"Importing" is still vague. On the desktop, some users use it for File > Open. Technically, I would only use it for File > Place, though Paste and drag/drop give effectively the same results as Place. Even with Place, you can Place at native size or you can drag on the screen to get it placed exactly where you want and at the exact size you want.
One of those doesn't apply on iPad, but that still leaves several possibilities for what you might be doing. Please describe exactly what you're doing to get the image into Photo. A screen recording might be nice, too.
And it's still not clear to me what you mean by distorted. Sorry. I can see that you have two Image layers whose thumbnails seem to have no relationship to the content of the document, but I wouldn't use the term "distorted" for that, so I'm still confused.

DM1 got a reaction from Champ in Affinity designer gallery organisation
Hi there, glad you found a solution. Given the large number of files you have there I just want to point out that the gallery (Home/Project screen) reflects files stored in the apps reserved 'sandbox'. If you are aware of sandbox file limitations (and the recent reports of lost work, and are happy to accept the risks) then read no further. 😁
If unsure/unaware or iPadOS sandbox restrictions, read on.
Affinity appears to work/edit/store it’s files in a sandbox area of memory reserved specifically for the app by iOS. Auto update saves your edits to the sandbox at regular intervals. These files are in a ‘proprietary format and cannot be accessed by any other method than opening from Gallery/Project screen (the screen showing icons of current files). Normally this should not be an issue but other users like you and I, have reported that their affinity apps are suddenly unable to open sandboxed files, reporting them as 'corrupted'. How or why this happens I don’t know ( and suspect Affinity’s developers don’t know either as there has not been a fix). Once corrupted the files are useless. If you are in the habit of regularly 'Saving' your files (a process that results in the creation of an external .afphoto/design file in the iPads Affinity folder or iCloud folder) you can simply navigate to the external folder and open the corresponding .afphoto/design file to create a new sandbox version. If not, you will probably need to recreate your work from the beginning (or if you have a recent iPad backup, maybe restore the iPad to an older working sandbox version). Not fun.
Saving your work:
Saving is a process that creates a version of your work ( in .afdesign or .afphoto proprietary file format) and stores it outside of the sandbox in a default storage location. These files can be accessed by other apps such as file managers and moved to sub folders, copied, shared with other apps etc and contain all the original edit information. This is different to Exporting which is the process of creating a shareable version in a range of non proprietary formats such as PNG, JPG, PDF, SVG and so on which may not contain the original layer info.
How to Save:
There is a Save option in the 3bar menu shown below the file icon in the Gallery/Project screen view. Tapping Save creates an unnamed .afphoto/.afdesign file in the default save locations Affinity folder. For this reason it is best to tap Rename', give your file a suitable name, then tap Save to save the names file (easier to find it later). It doesn’t take long and can save a lot of heartache later.
Once you have done this, there will now be a 'new' option to Save that appears in the Works screen Document menu, making it easier to regularly Save your edits to the External .afdesign/.afphoto version while you are working on the file.
Autosave only updates the Sandbox 'working' copy. So again, manually saving is important.
Sorry for the lengthy post. Hopefully Affinity will simplify the save process and improve its stability in future versions. If you are happy with your current storage methods just ignore my ramblings (and no, there is currently no way to save ‘multiple' sandboxed files, so if you haven’t been saving then you will need to repeat the save process a 100 times. 🙀

Yes, you could do that, but I think that's really for short-term storage. For long-term storage you should Save your files outside the application, on your iPad or in the cloud. That's the only safe way to keep them.

Are you comparing an earlier version compared to current version? Your first toolbar is significantly different to current toolbar. Features and functions have been moved over the years and many gestures have also changed. Some good, some not so good.
The Point Transform tool now provides access to 'around centre' feature but has increased functionality as the 'centre' point can now be moved to any desired location.

Open the psd using import file. Once opened double tap the top layer labelled embedded document. This opens the 'embedded' document. Use Command menu/Place image and navigate to desired image. Tap screen to place image inside the embedded document. Position as desired (I just let it cover the males image), then use the backspace arrow (top left corner). This closes the embedded document and you should now have your new image displayed.

Do a little test. Just creat a couple of rectangles two different colours. Save to cloud or iPad. Open the file and change a colour in one rectangle. Return to Home Screen (auto saves). You should see the project icon reflect the new colour. Open Files app and navigate to the cloud or iPad folder where you file as was saved. Has the Color updated in the files icon? If yes good. If not you need to save manually. Note this only applies when you use Open from and not Import, which creates a new file in sandbox only.
