DM1 got a reaction from rpaul in Verifying the file location
It’s an unfortunate 'benefit' of Apple’s sandbox approach to App security. It gets confusing knowing whether the Project screen version (stored inside the apps sandbox) is the same version as the Document screen version saved via Document menu. From previous testing I'm reasonably sure that provided you use Document Save a Copy, return to Project screen and delete the Project screen version, then Open from Cloud, navigate to and open the version saved via Document Save a Copy, then use the newly visible Save option for future saves, both the Project screen version and the Document version remain in step. The trick for me is to delete that first Project screen version after saving. Then I'm forced to Open (I mostly avoid Import) from Cloud. I find this (for me) minimises out of step versions of the document I'm working on and creates a .afphoto or .afdesign file that can be backed up to any storage location.
I suspect that the Save option in Documents and the Save option is Projects are only the same if the above has been done. If not, it is possible to have two versions on the Project screen that are not the same and no easy way to work out which is which as both are sandboxed. If that happens I open each one to see which is most up to date, do a Save a Copy, delete both from Project screen and then Open from Cloud again.
I also use Documents (by Readdle) to create new Affinity Photo and Design Folders and subfolders to store my files both on iPad, cloud and wireless storage. As some have found to their dismay, files saved in the Apps own storage folders are deleted by iOS if the app is removed for some reason.

DM1 got a reaction from Angelos58 in Zoom glass of detail: is there a bug?
Serif are working on 1.7 beta which when finished should then be ported to iPad. Hopefully it will address the mostly minor but frustrating bugs existing in 1.6.

I think that Adobe is really struggling at this point. Anyone using CC has seen inconsistent glitches and problems with recent releases.
And Illustrator has gone under a massive UX overhaul, but it now mimics the look and feel of Sketch or Designer. Adobe is no longer leading the market with innovation. They’re just playing catch-up. The largest benefit that Adobe has is it’s large market share for creative apps. Plus they have established their brand as the “industry standard” for the masses.
For their future, creative software is no longer their principal focus. They are now starting to invest heavily in CRM solutions instead of creative software. There are teams like Lightroom and Photoshop that have the resources for improving the software. But from a reliable Adobe source, they say that Adobe has put programs out to pasture like Illustrator and InDesign. Adobe internally uses the terminology “maintenance mode” for the software’s current status. Take that for what it’s worth. They realize that Serif/Affinity is a huge threat to their creative monopoly, but overall, they aren’t concerned because they don’t see what made them is also what will propel them into the future.
Affinity has a long way to go, but I for one was around when Adobe released their first versions, and Serif/Affinity has far exceeded my expectations. Affinity has a ways to go, but they have shown their dedication over the past two years and really reimagined how we work!

How to set up and adjust gradient for painting. The more points you add to the gradient map the greater the variation to shadows/highlight tones in the bow photo.
Use a new gradient map for each different colour. If you do a lot of one type of colour, say coats or skin, then save the gradient map for later use on other projects.
Have fun.

You’re welcome, @Angelos58.
And no, I’m not Italian, but I saw from your earlier posts that you are, so I thought it would be helpful if I switched temporarily to the Italian user interface (and I discovered a bug when I switched back again).
I thought of doing it that way, but it only works well if the sides of the shape are perfectly horizontal or vertical (which is why I mentioned the problem of accuracy in my previous post). I think the other method — punch a hole and then break the curves to add new strokes — is generally the way to go.

Hi Jennie5, I like to colourise old photos too. I'm no 'expert' but find I get reasonable results using a mix of gradient maps, or fills with empty masks. The colour effect can be fine tuned using opacity settings and layer blend modes.
You select/highlight your main pixel image layer in the layer studio.
Add a gradient map or fill layer (I prefer the gradient map as it applies colour based on lightness and darkness in the image). If a gradient map I find it useful to save the map too, for later use.
Selecting the gradient map, go to channel studio and invert the mask. If you used a fill layer you will need to apply an empty mask.
Now sect the mask layer, choose a brush and set the colour to white (with masks White reveals and Black conceals).
Paint where you want the colour to show.
I have attached the file for you to have a play with.

Your iPad has screen recording built in. In iOS settings go to Control Centre and add it. To use it open and run Designer, swipe down and across from top right of screen (to open Control Centre), then tap the circle button in Control Centre . It turns red when recording. Touch screen outside Control Centre to close window. Your actions on Designer Screen (or any other open screen) are now being recorded. To stop recording, swipe again to open Control Centre and tap the red button. recording stops and the video file is saved to photo library.
You can attach this vide to your post. Best to keep recording short, max of 1.5mins, or they get too big to upload.
EDIT: lol, you gotta be quick posting here, two replies as I wrote this. Well you should be able to work out How now.

Thanks. I somehow managed to overlook the fact that @Calligraphy Nancy is a calligrapher!

I agree with pictures you can get lots of spurious vectors. It seems to give a reasonable output though for tracing calligraphy using one of the standard templates. Black text so little colour variation to create spurious vectors. Vectors outlines of text image look pretty good, even as a starting point for tidying up in AD.

DM1 got a reaction from vzla0094 in Selecting multiple layers on iPad
Not actually a question.....
In the desktop version a number of demos show multiple layers selected. On the iPad I was not aware how to do this and haven't seen it documented. Now I know how to do it!
I have just found that if you touch on the right side of a layer and drag across to the left side it will select that layer without deselecting other layers. In this way you can select as many layers as you wish.

You can always use #imaengine to make a very wide range of auto traced vector images. Granted it’s not in this app, but still it’s cheap and quick once you understand how it works. Hope this helps until the trace feature can be added to affinity apps.

DM1 reacted to R C-R in Pantone colours
Please take into account that the iPad apps are less than ½ the price of the desktop ones & that they must conform to the iOS memory management & file system implementation, which is considerably different (& in some ways much more restrictive) than the Mac OS one. iPads also have substantially less RAM than typical desktop Macs (just 2 GB for some supported models & no more than 4 GB for the iPad Pros), so it may not be practical to cram all the desktop app features into the iPad versions.

DM1 got a reaction from Johannes Maragakis in Affinity Designer 1.9.1 iPad Help File PDF
Hi fellow Affinity users. Having been confined to the house during the Covid pandemic I have taken the opportunity to update the Designer PDF help file to version 1.9 There have been numerous feature additions in this version so you may benefit from updating. I hope you find it useful.
I have attached a lower resolution copy of the PDF version of the Affinity Designer IPad apps built in Help file directly to this post. See below. (I have also attached a less compressed (higher resolution) copy's Dropbox “link” to a PDF version).
You can open the PDF file in a reader or iBook allowing you to view and search the help file while working on a document in Affinity Designer. All links within the document should be working.
I hope you find it as useful as I do.
Please note that this PDF is not in any way supported by Affinity, nor are they responsible for any errors or omissions, so please do not refer any errors or omissions in the Document to Affinity. Every attempt has been made (by me) to ensure the content is an accurate representation of the built in Help file, however some errors 'may' have slipped through .
I will endeavour to keep it up to date (at least for a little while) . When Publisher comes out I may redo the layout (Pages is a little limited in the area of indexing).
My Dropbox account is basic and limits daily bandwidth, if you experience a problem downloading just try again next day.

We really need better colour-handling options in the iPad version! We can’t search for colours, we can’t specify tinting/shading percentages and we can’t enter hexadecimal colour codes.

DM1 got a reaction from Przemysław in Color B/W Photos
If you are using a colour layer mask you can invert the mask using the channel studio. I tend to use Gradient Mask layers, but it’s the same process. Invert the layer and paint with white to reveal. Here’s how I invert a gradient map layer but same method is used to invert any layer.
