  1. We just need the text to be editable, and we had a bit of an issue with the text after exporting to a .pdf Tomorrow we are going to try exporting as a .psd and then opening that in illustrator. We are also going to try the .svg method. Any other suggestions? P.S. I know I should try those methods out before posting here, but it is an urgent deadline, so I thought I would post first and then update the post tomorrow with the results.
  2. You are right! In Adobe Acrobat Pro the text is fine! But, if you try to open that .pdf in illustrator the text will still be disjointed. Even after saving it in acrobat. Copying and pasting from Acrobat to illustrator also does not work. And, no way to export from Adobe Acrobat Pro to Illustrator file format. The issue is the client needs an editable Illustrator file with no disjointed text in paragraph form. And, I can't figure out a process of getting a file created in Affinity Publisher to do that. (P.S. Ignore the @ Gabrielm message. Once I typed that it would not let me type anything else.)
  3. Wow! Very cool! The problem has been when I try to open that .pdf in illustrator. The text becomes disjointed, but this gives me hope of a new strategy! Maybe, if I copy and paste from Adobe Acrobat Pro it will work. Thanks! I will keep you all updated.
  4. Recreated this using files I can share... text of export publisher 1.svg text of export publisher.afpub Notice how in the .afpub it is a block of text and in the .svg export it is disjointed. The .pdf is very interesting. When you open the .pdf in publisher it preserves the text box, but when you open in illustrator it is all disjointed. text of export publisher 1.pdf As I mentioned, I also tried copying and pasting from publisher to illustrator, and it works, but the text gets disjointed. Unfortunately, I will no longer be allowed to use Publisher at the office because of this issue. Publisher still is my favorite software.
  5. Update: Someone programmed this extension script for Illustrator that merges text fields. https://ajarproductions.com/blog/2008/11/23/merge-text-extension-for-illustrator/ However, it doesn't really work anymore. After spending today trying to solve this problem I don't think there is a solution. I even tried coping and pasting into illustrator and that actually worked but the pasted text was still disjointed! In the image below, that entire body of text was one paragraph. Upon export to .svg words are broken up haphazardly as different text files. (with .eps export each letter is it's own text file.) This is an issue because the file is a massive 15 foot historical timeline with a whole lot of text.
  6. Thanks Gabriel, unfortunately it's confidential information from a public company so I can't share it. The issue I am having is not that the text is rasterized, it is that the text is no longer one group. Instead it is a few word or phrases. Each letter or phrase is editable separately. Arnaud, here is an image of one of the export settings used. I even tried clicking longer text spans options, but that also did not work.
  7. Thanks for the quick responses! The issue they are having with the .pdf is the words are not grouped and instead each letter is separate. Arnaud, I agree with you that the feature you describe would be useful. In this particular case, the client wants it so their internal team can edit the document. Alfred, Thanks of the heads up about the .psd. That is unfortunate.

Nothing on screen (and I mean NOTHING)

Here is a step by step instruction on how to get your AF and AP window back if it disappears off screen in Windows 10. 1. Hover mouse over AF or AP icon. 2. Move mouse cursor to mini view that pops up. 3. Right click that and hit maximize. 4. Click the top bar of the window and drag to unmaximize the window and have control over it again. (Don't hit the unmaximize window button! It will disappear again.) See photo attached.

Nothing on screen (and I mean NOTHING)

Thank you Sean! You have solved endless frustration with multi-monitor setup! Thank you so much for posting this! Very helpful! I will use this for all programs, all the time. I am so happy. Update: At first I thought it solved the AF problem, and it can sometimes, but other times it doesn't work. But, the hover method does. I will document the hover method in my next post.
  10. I also have a use case for this feature. If you try to import the .svg into Blender for 3D conversion the layers of the .svg will not be clipped. A work around is to use Boolean operations. But, this is not ideal. For example, I am creating a logo with a landscape inside a circle. All the hills, sun rays, trees, etc. are clipped inside one circle (using sub-layers). In AD everything looks great. But, as an .SVG the shapes go outside the circle messing up the logo. The only workaround I know of is to do the following (Note: I simplified this for new users in case they find this helpful): 1. Create a donut with an inner edge that matches the outer edge of your circle. Make sure the donut is thick enough to overlap the shapes you will be cutting. (TIP: use the guides to start creating the donut in the center of the existing circle, then hit Shift+Ctr when dragging the donut larger.) 2. Copy and paste that donut. Repeat until you create a copy for each shape that will need to be clipped. 3. Select both a donut and one of the shapes your are clipping. Hit the button for subtraction Boolean. A new vector shape will be created that is clipped. Repeat until all shapes are fixed. If anyone has a better workaround, I would really appreciate hearing about it. Thanks, Eric
  11. It has been years since this feature has been requested and I want to resurrect the request because it is extremely important. The feature request is this: Select anchor point, hit align and have the anchor points align to themselves. Example: You hit align to top, they will all align to the top most anchor point. [Other vector software with this feature: AI, Inkscape, Gravit Designer.]

Alignment of anchor points - Vote for this feature

Thanks Mithferion! This is a wonderful tip! While a bit tedious it really solves my problem! For other people reading this post, that may be less experienced with the program, you can modify the x/y position of each point in the transform window (See attached image). Other considerations for developers: Allow x/y transform to work on multiple points at once. Mithferion is right. It would be good if you could select multiple points and transform them all using one inputted value. Make transform work for node handles too. Add the angles and lengths of the node handles to the transform window. I love the precision of using numbers and this would open up a whole world or precision drawing! Thanks to the designers for making this amazing program, Eric (As always I take zero credit or claim to any ideas I post to these forums. I would like to see Affinity Designer be the best it can be.)

    Alignment of anchor points

I vote for this as the number one thing to fix. It is making the program rather unusable. Almost everything about Affinity is better for me than illustrator. But, this is very frustrating. A big vote for this.
