Hey folks,
Here's the problem: I have an empty Black hexagon (The shape is actually more complex, but let's just say it's a hexagon) as layer 1 (L1), I added some fancy border color to it as a child layer (L2), now I'm trying to select it's inner space, fill it with color and add it to Hexagon as another layer, the point is to be able to edit the hexagon's inner space separately.
And when I cut my selection I can't seem to do anything useful with it, it cannot be inserted anywhere as a layer. I seem to be missing something basic here, but I can't figure out what it is.
And another question which is perhaps related to this one: I have a selection saved in a file and if I were to load it, how would I (for example) simply draw it as a figure?

Can't seem to cut and paste as a layer

Ok, I've attached the file I've been working on. Thank you so much for your help, folks.
I apologize for making newbie mistakes, I'm new to the photo editing software.
If you take a look at the attached .afphoto file it should make more sense. What I'm trying to accomplish is after putting the "Outer_Logo" onto this "Sample_Panel" to have an easy way to insert various icons as images inside of it.
As for 2nd question I was talking about a selection made like this: Make a selection (for example using Rectangular Marquee tool) then at the top go to "Select" -> "Save Selection" -> "To File..."
