Polygonius reacted to Manofjesus in Grass brush for AP - updated to v.0.2
Hi guys. I want to take part in help for Affinity Photo. Here is custom make grass brushes and example, that was made by me. If you have any comments or ideas to add/fix them - i will adjust/update them.
Each brush - it is not only one image, but at least 3 different variations of it. So when you draw - it draws in series 1,2,3,1,2,3,....like frames in movies - so the grass texture looks more natural and random.
The brush rotates according to drawing direction/route. If you don't need it - got to brush settings Dynamic/Rotation jitter - and set it to ZERO %

2017.12.24 - Version updated to 0.2. See attached pictures for explanations   Also i attach small palette for green hues.
2017.12.18 - They are 4 brushes. First 3 - intensity brushes, and last one - image brush.

Another standard way is to select everything in a text field if a user single-clicks anywhere in it. Considering that if you just type a number, most numeric text fields in Affinity will default to using the current document units, it would be nice if that standard was used instead.

It would also be nice if tabbing between text fields highlighted the text itself instead of the hard to see & not very Mac-like outline indicator, which except for that does use this other Mac standard, selecting all the text in the tabbed into field.

    There are two solutions

1 You can draw multiple paths and then combine them using a Boolean operation to make one curve. Select the curves then go Layer > Geometry > Combine. That makes one curve, select the Pen tool and click on Selection or Mask

2 There is another way, which I think is better. Draw the paths, then group them. Fill them with a colour (you can fill them all at once as a group) and press Ctrl (Cmd on a Mac) and click on the Group layer icon, that turns all the shapes into a multiple selection. You can turn off individual layers so they wont be part of the selection, or add new paths inside the group, adjust them etc..

That has the benefit of keeping them all as separate paths, so you can edit them at any time. Unlike using the Selection option with the Pen tool, the paths are all kept as paths,

    Hi Polygonius,
Set the second dropdown to Miscellaneous in the Keyboard Shortcuts section (in Preferences). The first dropdown should be set for the Persona where these panels belong.

    Hi Polygonius,
No, some panels/tools etc don't remember their position. The dev team has implemented sticky settings for a few of them already but there's still work to do here.

If you want precision, press Ctrl + J then use the Transform panel to move the duplicated object.

Can't get more precise than that

You can save your Pen Tool created selection as a Spare Channel, or To File.. that you can load later. Using the Spare Channel option allows you to create multiple selections and save them as channels which you can then load/activate by clicking on those channels in the Channels Panel.

Yes sorry, I started but got sidetracked by a software bug.

    A deer

    An ellipse.

Note that the ellipse must have a fill colour. Any colour will do, but not transparent!
The ellipse layer must be directly above the image layer.

Right click on the ellipse layer and choose Mask to Below.

    Masked

Click on the ellipse layer thumbnail and apply a Layer Effect. Make sure you click on the Ellipse Layer thumbnail !!!

    Menu Layer > Layer Effects
Or click on the fx button

    Apply a Gaussian blur

    Result

    THERE IS A SOFTWARE BUG

If you try and save as a JPEG it doesn't work. The image is not masked.

You need to untick this first.

that option is in the More panel when you Export as a JPEG, (If you export as a JPEG).

    Then it all works.

You can layer gradients using Pixel Layers and then using layer blending but you cannot do what photoshop is doing because the Fill tool doesn't have a blending mode, so, any gradient you add to a single pixel layer will cover the last gradient you drew.

Which folder do you mean, the Application Support subfolder or more than that, like the entire Data/Library/ subfolder?

Either way, keep in mind that just because it worked this one time that it may not always work without causing stability issues or other problems, & the more indiscriminate you are about how much you copy the more likely that becomes.

The Application Support/autosave folder saves files containing data about open document files. If the app quits normally, these files should be removed automatically. If the app quits unexpectedly, the app can use these files to 'rescue' some unsaved changes to those documents, but only on the next launch of the app. So you should be able to trash them without causing problems if you do not get an offer to open those documents on the next launch, but again there are no guarantees, so proceed at your own risk.

Nice idea, but for building macros by "reverse engineering" the history is not detailed enough.
To build your own "filter gallery" macros must be editable and some limitation must be fixed.

Maybe some Perlin Noise in a Pale Blue and white mix, then some diffuse, maybe a splodge of blur and see what you get. I have saved the history with this file so if you look on the history panel you can see what I did. Maybe add a bit of ripple, but less is more in that instance.

There is no one file that stores all these things; instead there are several different ones storing different types of data. Since they are per user settings, on Macs they are stored in the Library folder of the user's home folder (by convention abbreviated as "~/Library" in path names) rather than in the System/Library or /Library folders.

Specifically, they are stored in the subfolders of ~/Library/Containers/com.seriflabs.affinityphoto/Data/Library/ (yes, yet another Library folder!), for example in its Application Support/user subfolder. Only some of these files store user resources. Some store data specific to the current or last state of the app, aliases to other apps, caches, & so on, so you can't safely just copy everything from one computer to another. However, some like the ".propcol" (short for "property collections"?) ones should be useable for this purpose, but there are no guarantees about that, so proceed with caution (& good backups!) if you want to try that.

If you have more than 10 favorites, maybe in categories and you use a mac, you can also run the OSX-font-managment (with all categories by your own) from inside AP.
But just from the signs-panel, unfortunately not direct from the text-kontext-bar:

Well, the method is working, but sometimes hard to get what you want.
So again my quest: Please make an option that a layer keeps selected (if hit this option)- does not matter where i click in the canvas, this layer keeps selected (without blue line). First if i "unlock" this option in the side-panel, the selection turns back to normal behavior!

Polygonius reacted to John Rostron in Using Equations in Distort - Parameter won't work
@atfitzy posted a thread about re-shaping a text block. I tried various Equations in Filter> Distort and the best I could come up with is:
    x=x
    y+(h-y)*(w-x)*x/w/w/a
This produces the required arch in the upper margin of the block. The a parameter allows the user to increase the stretching effect. The default of one has no effect; reducing it will increase the effect. However, I find that reducing the parameter has no effect until the value goes below half, after which it has the desired effect. I can get the desired effect by putting a multiplier at the start of the equation:
    y+2*(h-y)*(w-x)*x/w/w/a
Here are a couple of arched images using this formula:

Otherwise the formula works as desired. Before I commit this to a macro can anyone explain this unexpected behaviour in the parameter value?
    John
