    Peternel reacted to purveyor27 in [Implemented] Is it possible to package a project in Publisher?
    Packaging the document to include all assets and fonts etc ( like InDesign)  is a feature that would be 100% mandatory for me to be able to switch from InDesign to Affinity Publisher.  and oh boy do I ever want to switch to affinity Publisher!!!

    I'm not sure if it is the default - no way of checking without resetting my Publisher, which I'm not keen to do
    Hanging punctuation goes right back to Gutenberg...

    In the Character panel, check your settings for Optical Alignment:

    Set to Manual, you can control the settings for hanging punctuation. Set to None, punctuation marks will be contained within the text frame.

    Hope this helps!

    Peternel reacted to lineweight in Slice export presets are very confusing!
    Trying to use the Export persona in Affinity Photo and I find the various presets monumentally confusing; there seem to be two types of preset the names of which are too similar.
    If I've got my head around it, there are both "Export Options presets" and also "Export Setup presets".
    An "Export Setup Preset" is applied per slice, and it can call on (multiple?) "Export Options presets" for the exports from that slice.
    I think the names need to be more distinct and clearer about what they actually do.
    To add further to the confusion, the "expert setup preset" is chosen from a dropdown that's simply labelled "export preset", so it's really confusing, what you're actually choosing in there.
    I don't know if it's just me but it completely does my head in!

    I normally have many copies of the same document saved as backups so I would like to add to this request.
    I would like to have a "Continue in New Version" option on the File menu.
    This function would save the current document and then create a duplicate with an automatically incremented number suffixed to the file name which the user would continue to work with.
    For example:
    * Create document;
    * Save document as "Document";
    * "Continue" - file "Document" is saved and a new document "Document1" is created which the user now works with;
    * "Continue" - file "Document1" is saved and a new document "Document2" is created which the user now works with;
    * etc. etc.
    This would be useful but not vital as I'm already used to working the way I am now. Would be nice not to have to do this manually though.

    No sorry, it was simple flyers that I could have done with Designer but I wanted the benefits of the better control of the text blocs that Publisher offers.

    I used AF Pub to make my wife's Doctoral research poster.  It's a single page 36 inches by 48 inches and it had imported graphics and photos along with a couple of tables.  The PDF I generated was used to print the poster on a vinyl sheet and everything worked perfectly.  I did mirror everything in Scribus as a backup in case I ran into problems with AF Pub (I don't have ID or Quark).  There was only one odd thing that happened in the whole process: at the FedexKinko's where I had the poster printed, the software they use to import the PDF seemed to have an issue displaying the PDF in a thumbnail view.  It came up blank but printed perfectly.
    The template that the University gave her for the poster was set up on a page that was 13.25 inches by 7.5 inches. I'm still scratching my head on those dimensions.  I started out on that format but decided to scale it up to the finished 36 by 48.  The scaling worked perfectly, resizing the fonts and images.  The only downside was that the text styles were still based on the smaller format.  I had to go in and reset the styles to the new font sizes and spacing.  Fortunately, I only had a few paragraph and character definitions.
    I can see how this is going to be a really great package of applications once all of the apps are up to the 1.7 baseline.  Well done, Affinity team!

    Peternel reacted to kainote in Not my first book, but the first produced with Affinity Publisher
    I know, Publisher is not meant for real work yet. But I couldn't wait. So I made a lot of backups inbetween so I could transfer texts and stuff to another App if needed. But almost everything went well. Sometimes Publisher just closed after an action but it saved the work so no loss there.
    My new book is about storytelling. It is the aftermath of a social media campaign from last fall in which I published 30 blog articles about essential storytelling questions. As a teaser I produced 30 dioramas of famous stories and took photos of them. Affinity Photo was a real life saver then.
    After the campaign I decided to publish this book with the campaigns content. I used Affinity Designer for most of the graphics and Affinity Photo for my Diorama Photos again. Publisher showed to be reliable enough to produce the whole book with 168 pages and a content worth of 1.2 GB.
    I made a video with a short flip through:
    When Affinity Publisher will finally be published I will definitely buy a license. :-)

    I used it for simple jobs and everything was perfect. The most important I think is to remember it is still a beta and to check your PDF thoroughly.

    PDFlib for making PDF in export differ between the 1.65x and the 1.70x series. The 1.70x series use a newer PDFlib. I bet the export part was re-used for Publisher so it should probably work the same way.

    Yes, it is capable of doing the job. But keep in mind: Never ever use beta software for real clients and real projects! You might run into problems for which no solutions are available at the time you encounter them. For the time being, stick to Indesign, PagePlus or QXP for real projects.

    Make a test with a few pages. Your printing house could check and report then. I guess Serif would be interested in the results. Me too, since I already make some small projects but only for in-house printing.
