Text/Paragraph styles, for a robust solution.
There is a Paste Style, but it doesn't seem to work with text (or, I haven't figured out how, yet).
Alternatively, you could create a Style (using the Styles panel) from your first set of formatted text, then highlight the second set and drag the style onto it from the Styles panel.

I think setting Paragraph end zone in the Hyphenation section of the Paragraph panel will have the same effect in a simpler and more direct way. That's what the control is for.

walt.farrell got a reaction from mac_heibu in How to find overflow text in a story...
Assuming you have View > Show Text Flow enabled and View > Preview Mode disabled, each Text Frame will have an outline, typically a blue box. Ones that overflow will in addition have a red dot on the left and right side of that outline. So, you simply look through each page of your document, and look for the red dots.

Just a thought: for both Mac and Windows, it might be easier to define a new user and login to that new user in order to do the workbook exercises. Then you don't mess around with any of your existing Affinity settings.

Excellent suggestion, one I wish I had thought of.

Participation in the Affinity for iPad betas requires installation of TestFlight and a separate signup.
I haven’t seen any similar threads calling for participation in a beta testing programme for Affinity Designer on iPad, but perhaps that will change when version 1.7 is ready for testing.

Not a bad thought, @jmwellborn, and one I had in mind, too.
No real need to write down the numbers and add them to the index manually, by the way. When you click on an entry in the result list you you'll be positioned to the word. Hitting Ctrl+Shift+Alt+[ will then add an index mark and let you specify the values or click on OK to accept the defaults. (One could choose a less cumbersome shortcut, of course.)

walt.farrell got a reaction from danzefirelli in Auto Indexing
Indexing, in many cases, is more complex than simply finding the terms and marking them.
If you look at the Text > Insert Index Mark dialog you'll see fields to enter a topic name (which doesn't need to match the term being indexed) and parent topic name (for multi-level indexes). That way "Frederickson, Lewis" and Frederickson, Thomas" could be listed as sub-entries "Lewis" and "Thomas", respectively, of "Frederickson". And other occurrences of "Lewis" or "Thomas" might be unrelated to those, and have their own separate entries.
It might be nice, though, to have an easy way to search for unmarked occurrences of words that already have an index mark. That way, having marked a term once, you could find other occurrences you hadn't marked yet, and decide whether to index each or not, and if so what entry it belongs to.

Auto-adding of pages exists. If you fill a text frame you can shift-click on the link-frame icon (I'm not sure of its formal name) about 1/4 of the way up on the right side of the frame and you'll get a new page/frame to hold overflow.
No, at this point, you do not want to have a text frame on a Master Page that you'll want to put text into on a document page; that won't work without a lot of fiddling. But you can put one on a regular page and use the auto-adding to get new pages, or duplicate the pages yourself. You don't need to have it on a Master Page.
You can insert text from RTF files into a text frame, via Text > Insert Text from File... or by right-clicking in the text frame and choosing the same option.
Text will flow from text frame to text frame (takes a click, though) or automatically around objects placed over the text frame (and there are Text Flow options to control how it does that).
If you haven't watched the tutorials, you really should, if you're going to be trying this beta release. They're short, and cover the basics, including several of the things you've complained about.

Publisher allows you to install your own spelling dictionaries and hyphenation dictionaries, and many additional dictionaries are available on the web already. You can look for dictionaries that are compatible with Hunspell, or start with the dictionaries made available for LibreOffice.
For example, the Dutch dictionaries available here should work. Just download hyph_nl_NL.dic, nl_NL.aff, and nl_NL.dic and place them in the "additional dictionaries" directory shown at the bottom of the Preferences, Tools dialog.

Hi,
The context menu for a topic in the Index Panel includes a ‘Find in Document...’ command which should list occurrences of the topic in the document. Specific occurrences can then be included or excluded from the index. Note the ‘Find in Document’ command includes some word stemming support, so for instance a search for ‘find’ would turn up ‘find’, ‘finding’ etc.

Of course, one might not have a physical keyboard, or one might prefer to keep one's hands on a tablet and stylus. In that case, the shortcuts are less useful, and one is forced to use the menus unless one can configure a button.

walt.farrell reacted to Wosven in Deriving master pages? (SOLVED)
On Windows it's working fine.
You can create a first Master Page with a text Frame for a Page number field.
Create a second Master page with decorations, and apply to this Master page the "Page number" one.
If you apply to your pages the "Deco + number page" Master Page, you can later modify the Master pages and the modification will apply to your pages.
If later you decide to create a new Master page "Page number 2", and apply it to your "Deco + number page" master page (replacing the existing applied master page), you "Deco" master page will be a mix of "Deco" + "Number page 2" master pages, and your pages will update accordingly witjout needing to reapply anything.

walt.farrell got a reaction from Steps in Deriving master pages? (SOLVED)
I'm not sure whether it's a broken feature or what. I've seen some mention of being able to apply masters to masters, but never found it myself.
The solution to your need, I think, is to apply multiple masters to the normal pages, which does work. When you apply a Master there's an option to remove existing Masters from the page, or not.

The Affinity applications will install wherever you want to put them on Windows.
Just change the install location when it asks where to install the program.

No idea. Doesn't happen to me on a simple test.
Perhaps Serif will be able to tell if you provide the sample.

The Affinity programs are sold and licensed separately for each platform (Windows, Mac, iPad). You will need to repurchase them for use on Windows.
That's part of what keeps the prices so low.

I'm not a Serif employee, but as I'm not sure how quickly one of them will respond: Yes, if you own both computers you can install your copy of the Affinity application on both of them, as long as they're the same OS (both Windows, or both MacOS).
