Personally, I believe the ability to set a text frame's text style is all sorts of wrong. This thread exemplifies this issue.

walt.farrell reacted to R C-R in Docking palettes side by side on Mac
It isn't. Mac users get one left & one right dock-able panel group (& separate View menu show/hide options for them which can be given individual keyboard shortcuts) but it isn't possible to dock more than one panel group to either the left or right side. In Separated window mode all the panels float.
What works for me in non-separated mode is to float one or two panel groups to the right of the document window -- I actually prefer this to docking everything -- but that probably is not what some Mac users would like.

walt.farrell reacted to MikeW in Desire Letter Spacing tools is not working
If the min/max are set to zero, that is all the higher the Desired can go.
One of the justification settings I use in most styles set a min/max to 4%. This makes the Desired setting have a min/max obtainable value of 4% as well. I keep Desired at 0 (zero). If I want to tweak a string/paragraph I will use Tracking on it.

That's just how he could reproduce it.

All I do is use the adjustment tools and sometimes the display gets messed up and some times it doesn't (I never undock).

The TIFF format supports transparency, though I've seen articles that say some applications may not support it properly. Photo (1.6 and 1.7, on Windows) will certainly export a TIFF with a transparent background.

You'll never be able to work exactly the same as you do in Photoshop. You may be able to produce the same effects, and images that are just as good, but the two programs work differently and their interfaces are different, and how one uses them is and will remain different. Serif is not trying to make the Affinity programs clones of any other programs, and they want them to work differently.
So, if you really meant that you want it to work the same, rather than being able to produce the same results, you might as well just stick with Photoshop.

walt.farrell reacted to R C-R in Affinity Designer: trim canvas
That is incorrect & misleading. Affinity Designer is based on the canvas metaphor. Even Artboards are in effect just multiple canvases in one document. If you doubt this, refer to the online version of the built-in help & enter "canvas" as a search term, or just think about the Clip to Canvas  or Rotate canvas menu items, or where it says, "Document—to add an artboard at the current document's dimensions to the canvas."

Just to be clear, you want a simple way of adding a flaw to your photos? Most of us probably want to remove chromatic aberration

walt.farrell reacted to mbieh in Integration of Affinity Photo/Designer/Publisher (Windows Version) to the Chocolatey package manager
    For example https://chocolatey.org/packages/winrar.

It simply installs the trial version of WinRAR, into which you can then insert your serial number or file. From then on it uses the update mechanism to always write over the existing installation. But your license is still there. Just as if you were downloading the installer from the website and running it.

I think if Affinty's update behavior is the same, it could just as easily work. Someone has to maintain the packages.

Thank you so much.  I'm new to Affinity and I'm slowly getting familiar to the different  terminology. When I do a search on help, if you don't get the phrase correct it don't point you in the right direction.

walt.farrell reacted to AlanPC in Line Spacing
    Indeed
In fact I was lucky enough to learn to type on a Canon "word processor", which had a little blue LCD screen so you could see about 6 lines of text. You could (slowly) scroll up and down and when happy, hit "print".
When that wasn't working, or someone else was using it, which was frequent, i'd use a manual machine, which hard a hard return bar. There was none of this "hold some key down and the bar does something different" stuff; you either hit that thing and made a space, or you didn't.
The greatest thing I hate and despise about Wordpress is that "Oh, you hit return? BLOING! Here's a HUUGE space!"
Sorry but I'm too old to change where this is concerned. I hit return, I want ONE space. I don't want 1.5 or 1.25 or 2.25 or anything except 1.0. If I wanted 1.5 spaces I'd hit it the return key 1.5 times...

Good tip. It also works on Mac OS.
I still think links to the website should be more prominent.
The experience of a new user who has access to all the great tutorials and support from Affinity/Serif and fellow users here on the forum vs one who isn't aware of these resources would be hugely different.

Just in case it helps you (won't help anyone without the program), on Windows Help > Support... will get you to the forums. The same might be true of Mac, but I can't tell.

Be aware that File Recovery is not the same as an Auto Save feature.  Manually saving your document at regular intervals is the best (current) way to ensure you minimise any loss of work due to application/computer problems.
If you mistakenly believe that by setting the File Recovery option on and that that will always protect you from losing large amounts of work in the event of a crash, then you risk being hugely disappointed when a crash occurs
By all means set File Recovery to on (if not already set) but considered it as your last ditch hope in recovering a document that you had not manually saved recently.

Often they do not respond to discussions in this forum, but sometimes they do. It depends on whether they have noticed it and how busy they are. I have sent a message to one of the Serif staff asking for a review or other suggestions.

You already knew that the exported file is OK, because (from an earlier  post) your external printing house used it and you got the colors you want. So the issue seems to be just with printing it from Designer.
Unfortunately, I have no idea what that might indicate. I think that someone from Serif will need to respond and help figure something out.
