walt.farrell reacted to Mary W-T in Is this a bug or am I stupid?
    I have done it 😀
I was very careful, removed the old installation files before I downloaded the new ones so I couldn't get confused!
It takes so long to get new computers and programmes working in the way you are used to and want them to. I really do appreciate the help.

They are supplied by macOS, probably.
As I mentioned before, your folder structure in your Spelling folder does not match what the FAQ tells you. Please try correcting that. I suspect that none of the languages you have added are being recognized by the Affinity applications.

There are two prompts you could get:
If you installed from the Affinity Store using the default MSIX installer, the prompt will offer you the option to Install. If you click the button, it downloads the updated installer, updates the program, and restarts it with the new update applied.
or If you installed using the alternative EXE/MSI installer, the prompt will offer you the opportunity to Download. If you click the button, your default web browser will open to the right spot in the Affinity Store for you to download the file. You need to make sure you choose the EXE version. Then you need to close the application, and run the installer yourself.

walt.farrell got a reaction from R C-R in Affinity Photo - A document made entirely of linked images is still over 120mb?
Place does not Embed, if the policy says to Link, so I'm not sure what you mean by that.
But it seems clear to me that what thomaso wants is an option for Open to create the file with a Linked Image layer when a raster file is opened, rather than a Pixel layer.

walt.farrell got a reaction from Sara PL in EXPORT PROBLEM PDF, SOME VECTOR BRUSH ARE PIXELED
The Solid Pen with Pressure brush is a true vector brush.
The other "vector" brushes are raster images stretched along a vector path. They are thus a combination of raster and vector, and will pixelize if you zoom in.

You have not followed the installation instructions properly; the files and folders are in the wrong location.
Please check the FAQ again, particularly:
Yours are within a folder named la_LA, not directly in ~/Library/Spelling. Also, I suspect your screenshot is of /Library/Spelling, not ~/Library/Spelling, but I cannot check that right now.
    And:
Yours are within a folder named la_La within a folder named la_LA. That's one folder too many. And, again, I  suspect you're showing us the wrong Spelling folder, but I cannot tell from the limited screenshot provided and can't check my Mac system right now.
There's also a problem the file content is wrong, depending on exactly how you performed the download. What do the first few lines of each look like?

walt.farrell reacted to Oufti in Possible Memory Leakage of Affinity Publisher on MacOS
MacOS tends to (let applications) use a large part of the available RAM. So if you have much RAM, it will use more of it than if you had not.
Look in the Activity Monitor, as long as the Memory Pressure graph is green, it should be OK. If it's orange, you're running short of memory and if it's red, better close some apps or restart.

If you want that, make a Feature Request, or add on to an existing one with information on how it would benefit your work.
Mentioning it here will have no effect on the development of the programs.

walt.farrell reacted to MikeTO in Apply master's Migrate option could be improved
This was just a test doc created to show the issue. The masters in my actual book are more complex. I was applying a master without a body frame because I wanted to remove some of the bells and whistles from that page but I expected the body frame to be migrated, not merged into a header frame. Nobody would want or expect that.
This has happened many times with this particular document and I got tired of working around it today (I edited the master detached and promoted the body frame manually) so I finally created an extra master page today to handle this situation. Now it won't be an issue. if I'd known about Bruce's tip of naming the frames to prevent them from being promoted I would have just done that. I only name my frames when debugging since I never have more than two or three frames on a page.
I proposed a way to fix this issue - don't migrate content from a frame into a frame that isn't truly empty - but I'd be just has happy to have back an old-fashioned Keep option, without the app trying to be smart and migrate things where it thinks I want them.

That might be possible using the Optical Alignment settings, but I haven't tried it with those specific characters or in a TOC.

You can also save that "sample" document as a Template, and then rather than using File > New and starting from a Document Preset with the default Text Styles defined, you can start from your Template and have only the set of Text Styles you wanted with no need to import them.

While i fully understand the (probably) good intentions, i have seen to many apps from other vendors going to total disarray because older versions lost attention and help get totally out of sync. It really helps nobody if online help works reliably only for the bleeding edge release of the app, and provides misleading or completely wrong results for slightly non-current releases.
The help documentation is an dedicate deliverable accompanying the app releases. It s no „optional“ or „if we find time“ low priority thing. As Affinity updates UI and features in every minor update, we need a perfect fitting documentation for every minor release. The offline help can include links to additional online-only resources like videos. This is never a reason to go fully only only.

If you're using V1, and you're on Sonoma, then you have the problem described in that other topic, and there's no workaround other than using drag/drop as mentioned in that topic:

Yes, optical alignment works in a TOC and you could hang an asterisk outside the frame. You couldn't add space to the right of it and have the space outside the frame, too, though because optical alignment is limited to a single character. I'm unsure what TOC design this would achieve. @kat, could you share a picture of what you want?

Thank you for your reply @walt.farrell. I realised that to insert any of the Fields I can just double-click on its label/ name on the left in the Studio window.

Understandable. If you ever recreate it using sample data that is not sensitive, it would be good to have that file.

    Hi Walt, thanks for replying.
After some tribulations, I believe I found the problem, probably of hardware origin. The possible culprit could be a USB adapter used for the second monitor. After I removed it, everything seems again to work correctly, including Nicepage and I had no more crashes.
This evening I will try with a different adapter.
    Sorry for the false alarm.
