Text > Find... (or, View > Studio > Find and Replace) handle that just fine for me. Are you having a problem with it? -
Three Apps - same handling?
walt.farrell replied to abra100pro's topic in Feedback for Affinity Publisher V1 on Desktop
I'm not quite sure what you mean by this one, especially your comment about AD. That may be due to my lack of experience; sorry. But I will mention that Designer and Publisher each have multiple ways you could zoom, and it would be helpful to know which you are using. Also, there is at least one zoom-related Preference that may have an effect (see earlier screenshots). -
Three Apps - same handling?
walt.farrell replied to abra100pro's topic in Feedback for Affinity Publisher V1 on Desktop
It's not quite as straightforward as you describe. I've read that the default handling is based on whether the object has a native aspect ratio (and works a bit differently, perhaps for groups of objects). Thus, resizing some objects (or groups) in Designer will (by default) work differently with Shift held than it will with other objects or groups, depending on their characteristics. However, it's controllable by a Preference, too. Here it is for Publisher: That's the default setting in both Designer and Publisher, but if it's working differently for you between the two applications I would start by verifying you have the same setting in both. -

Placed images - ppi and co-ordinates
walt.farrell replied to iaing's topic in Feedback for Affinity Publisher V1 on Desktop
The Context bar shows that for me, Tom. Here's a screenshot with a simple placed image selected: It's a little harder to get it with a Picture Frame involved; that took a double-click (or two) on the image itself, but it did show. -
Compress tif file
walt.farrell replied to Kennethchase's topic in Pre-V2 Archive of Affinity on iPad Questions
If the filesize of a JPEG file stays the same, that sounds like perhaps you're choosing too high a JPEG quality level, or you need to reduce the pixel dimensions of your photo significantly (i.e., don't have it be a 14" x 14" image). I know that neither approach will seem reasonable to you, but the limitation is really one imposed by FineartAmerica and that sounds like a consequence of wanting to do business with them. In any case, Affinity Photo would have roughly the same limitations as Photoshop. One other thought: what is the color format of your file? If I make an RGB/8 file with those dimensions and save as a TIFF it's only 15+ MB. -
Keyboard shortcuts colour picker tool
walt.farrell replied to GRAFKOM's topic in [ARCHIVE] Publisher beta on Windows threads
Interesting. It does have one (I, as shown by the tooltips), but the tool is not present in the Preferences for Shortcuts, so it can't be changed. -
Text styles short cuts
walt.farrell replied to GeoffM33's topic in Feedback for Affinity Publisher V1 on Desktop
That's the clean version of that initialism, certainly. The "official" version is somewhat more earthy than "flippin" (but I agree that for a printed book, flippin' is nice). Wikipedia's version of RTFM (which matches how I learned it) (NSFW, perhaps) -
You should be able to find it using the Navigation panel, and/or move it using the Transform panel, if you have its layer selected in the Layers panel. In fact, if you look at the Transform panel, it's Y coordinate is ~2418mm. If you set that to 0 it should become visible on its page, though it still may be much too big.

Ctrl + Shift + Down Arrow
walt.farrell replied to BrianUni's topic in [ARCHIVE] Publisher beta on Windows threads
You're welcome. One other hint: Don't expect any carryover from how PPX9 worked. Affinity Publisher is a completely new product written from scratch. You will (I believe) find many differences in how things work, even for those cases where both provide the same or similar functions. -
Option in Find
walt.farrell replied to jrkay's topic in Feedback for Affinity Publisher V1 on Desktop
Publisher already provides two ways to handle this; Document > Font Manager... will show you all the fonts in use in your document, and their status. Find (available via Text > Find... or View > Studio > Find and Replace) lets you find things based on their format, including their font. To do that you click on the gear/cog icon in the Find part of the Find and Replace panel and then choose options. Once there you select the Font section, and change the right-hand pulldown from All to Missing. At that point, if you have any missing fonts, you can select one in the Font Family pulldown, then click OK. That will set up the FInd operation to look for that font. Then you just click Find. Here are some screenshots to demonstrate what the Find dialogs look like (but as I didn't have any missing fonts I couldn't actually show that). -
Drag to resize shape (huge zoom)
walt.farrell replied to bures's topic in Feedback for the V1 Affinity Suite of Products
I suggested two approaches: some ways to zoom, and some ways to easily move the image to find the handles without zooming. If you don't want to zoom, that's fine. Perhaps the other approach will work for you. -
To reposition the ruler origin:

Your Customize Toolbar dialog was not scrolled all the way to the bottom. The tool you wanted is lower in the list. -
Compress tif file
walt.farrell replied to Kennethchase's topic in Pre-V2 Archive of Affinity on iPad Questions
What are your image dimensions (in pixels), what is the intended use, and what is the DPI setting currently? (By the way, TIFF images exported from Affinity Photo are automatically compressed using LZW.) -
Ctrl + Shift + Down Arrow
walt.farrell replied to BrianUni's topic in [ARCHIVE] Publisher beta on Windows threads
Why do you expect that? Shift+End selects from the text cursor to the end of the line. Looking at 4 other applications I have on Windows: In one, Ctrl+shift+Down selects the next line of text, but not the current one. In another, it does nothing at all. (Also true in Affinity Designer.) In another, it selects from the text cursor to the end of a paragraph. In Publisher, the default shortcuts define Ctrl+Shift+Down as affecting paragraph leading: -

Missing Font
walt.farrell replied to Sam Neil's topic in [ARCHIVE] Publisher beta on Windows threads
I guess my question would be what is the "it" that's relying on something? Publisher seems to be telling you that an asset you're using relies on a font that (somehow) you don't have installed. Where did you get that asset? Did you create it? Did you create it on the same computer you're using it on? If so, you presumably had the font when you created the asset. Did you uninstall the font? (Basically, I think a lot more information is needed about how you got into that situation.) -
Missing Font
walt.farrell replied to Sam Neil's topic in [ARCHIVE] Publisher beta on Windows threads
If you don't have the font installed, where would you expect Publisher to find it? I think it will have substituted one of your existing fonts. You can find more info about what it did by using Document > Font Manager. -

Do you happen to have a gradient fill on the text frame? If so, possibly it's this problem. -
How to make a style of this ?
walt.farrell replied to Tom Schülke's topic in Feedback for Affinity Publisher V1 on Desktop
For the last one, it's likely you needed to separate the Chinese and English portions so the have separate font and language specifications. (Character panel, perhaps? I'm away from the computer right now.) For the others, I'm not sure; will need to play with it. -

walt.farrell replied to Tom Schülke's topic in Feedback for Affinity Publisher V1 on Desktop
You may have already discovered this (I haven't finished reading your other topic, yet), but: Select the style you want to update in the Text Styles box. Select the text to use that has the adjustments. Use the Update Style button.
