Hi ... I am Rod and a designer... everything from Entertainment centres to multi projector theatres...

I have been using Corel Draw since the late 80s ... Moved to Mac 5 years ago with a Macbook Pro then added a 27inch iMac

I actually went into Adobe CC so I didn't have to run Windows on the Mac (parallels) ... Oh dear not a happy marriage... Back to Corel

I discovered AD ... looked at the samples, and within an hour bought it ... I look like being able to migrate all my work over after the learning curve.

Would be nice if I could open a .cdr file in AD

Great program ... and so good that I got it from the App Store...

What about dropped caps in a paragraph? A logo based on William Gutenburg's head or his printer? You know the twist handle section.

If the roller spews out the paper, then surely the text should mention the App's name. What say you?

Thank you Raskolnikov  :) I like them more vivid too. good suggestion. the recolor tool makes that an easy change.
Anyway, for all those screaming updates and tweaks I don't think we have anything to worry about in that area. This company seems very clear about their mission. I don't think this topic is going to take away any resources from this already fabulous tool.  ;)

This thread nothing more than few opinion and suggestions.  For some of us users (like myself) it just another sand pit to play in while learning this tools in and outs.

a noun, verb or adjective? In other words, the name has to be a word, right?  "Developer" sounds like what programmers do. Graphiq is not too shabby...it sounds sophisticated and European to my American ear. It speaks generally enough, and specifically enough at the same time..not an easy balance to achieve.

The current use of "Designer" for what seems to be an illustration program is confusing to me. What is the primary purpose of the software?  I could design with Open Office.. but, what is the primary purpose of OO?

It might be time to explore words that don't have anything to do with preconceived notions, and therefore, don't come with any baggage.

Kodak is  one such word...it doesn't actually mean anything in itself, though after 80 years of people snappin' pictures, "Kodak" came to mean "Photography."

This stuff doesn't happen over night, despite what "branding" proponents would have us believe.

As an aside, check out Blambot.com -- there's some great tutorials on comic typography there and some very good free fonts (most are in OpenType format and ligatures). Web letterer is a good font for webcomics.

Doesn't having a good solid sketch to work from just makes vectorizing a lot easier?

    Hi folks.

I can use the pen tool now, after the bezier game!

I thought I'd put my copy of AD to proper use, illustrating that is, not just page layout mode.
All this despite 'losing' a borrowed drive for a Tevion tablet. Never mind being unable to find my Epson scanner power supply...any way this is for you the AD community, the AD Team at Serif labs (And the Drawplus team for getting me hooked on DrawPlus in the 1st place).

A big thank you goes out to you CartoonMike and that awe inspiring tutorial earlier: for pushing me over the edge and well into the abyss of time, know as creativity mode.

It's so good seeing images in my head finally landing on paper/screen. I can now concentrate now :P

Ps A brief intro of the picture.

Family Guy did 3 Star Wars films as you know and they are better than the original. So why not do Airwolf in the same vein? The main villain Dr Charles Henry Moffet was the creator and thief of Airwolf. He was a tortured evil genius who had an upper class English accent...sound familiar anybody.

I would love this to go viral (Dream on. Ed) and maybe to Seth McFarlane et al

    The cast would be
Chris Griffin - Stringfellow Hawke Peter Griffin - Dominic Santini Stewie Griffin - Dr Charles Henry Moffet Carter Pewtersmidt - Archangel Joe - The Senator Joes's Wife - Marriella Glen Quagmire - Test pilot, Moffet's team there's more to follow :) Why "She's a lady", well in the program Dom , the hopeless romantic dotes on that machine...and the song by Tom Jones makes it funny too.

    jbw,
This feature - ability to use the pasteboard (the area around the canvas) - is a frequent request and is being worked on.
It should be available later. Maybe this could be turned in to a preference, so everyone's happy.

Hi, this is my first vector Image I finished ever :-) It was fun to watch the tutorials form staff and some members here :-)
I had more fun while creating this tiny dragon with Affinity Designer. I love it so far. To be more experienced, I have to work more and am looking frward to see more from your works and hopefully more Tutorials, that show some more of your workingprocess.

Hey Andy, all that sounds great!

Here is another take. Still not too happy with the result, but getting there. I love being able to use vector/pixel tools in the same document fluidly. I need to adjust my workflow, but i think I can be more productive in the Designer than Photoshop pretty easily in my Illustration/Concept art work. I will try a commercial project next.

Please forgive the awful design. I just wanted to test out some Designer brushes, both vector and raster, with no planing whatsoever. It started from just a few strokes, and evolved to this. Next one will be better, I promise :).

Other than inabiliy to change the brush size when locale not US (no easily accessable brackets in HR layout), I really like Designer for concept art so far.

    Purpose: Features, Improvements, Fixes
Status: Beta Requirements: Purchased Affinity Designer Mac App Store: Not submitted   Improvements / Features   Huge number of Mac OS X Yosemite "Look And Feel" changes and optimisations.   Mac OS X Yosemite will (hopefully!) see a public release soon - so we have been doing a lot of work to make sure we look "at home" there.   Implemented stroke alignment options: Inside, Outside, Centre, renamed panel.   Strokes on vector objects can now specify offset (inside, outside, centre). Also, we called the panel "Line" before, which confused some users who (correctly) refer to these things as "strokes". The "Line" panel is now called "Stroke". The "Stroke" FX item is now called "Outline".   Improved performance of Pencil and Brush Tools, also improved the shapes they create.   Our pencil, vector brush and raster brush tools were waiting too long for input before producing a preview of the stroke - we have fixed this by completely rewriting the algorithm we use to generate our curves from input strokes. Users should now expect immediate, high quality results from all of these tools.   Added ‘Continuous Export’ feature to Export Persona.   Many users asked us to remove the need to press "Export All" in the export persona each time they change something.. Now, once you have done "Export All" once (choosing a folder), you can tick the "Continuous" box and Affinity Designer will automatically re-export slices when they need to be re-exported.   @3x export added, along with iPhone 6 document preset.   We have added a 3x option for export, along with an iPhone 6 preset. We are still unsure how to proceed with the iPhone 6 Plus preset, but will continue to look into it.   Added ability to replace images in-place.   A large number of users, including many ex-Freehand users, wanted Linked images. This will be an Affinity Publisher feature - but we have added a simple "Replace Image" / "Replace Embedded Document" button in the context-toolbar. This should carry people over until Publisher is done.   Added ability to convert any object into a white-is-transparent-black-is-opaque mask   This is useful when working with 1-bit TIFF files, etc.   Vector cut-and-paste.   Designer can now talk "vector" with other apps - so cutting and pasting no longer means rasterising!   Improved JPEG export quality / progressive.   We were setting sub-optimal chroma subsampling flags when exporting JPEG images. This is now fixed - along with a new option to export progressive JPEG, which seems to be making a comeback in the web community. We now also write the correct DPI setting to exported images.   OpenType / Typography.   We have renamed the "OpenType" panel "Typography" - as the settings in there are not specific to OpenType. Numerous bugs / fixes have been implemented (GPOS kerning etc.) along with a number of suggestions from Adam Twardoch (http://www.twardoch.net) - thanks Adam!   SVG export improved   SVG export now includes object names, supports composite transparency as an attribute (rather then forcing rasterisation). Many things are now exported as vector - not rasterised.   PDF export improved   PDF export now correctly honours the ‘text as curves’ checkbox - and many things are not unnecessarily rasterised.   More stuff!   - Many printing improvements. - Convert to Curves should maintain the winding mode of source objects. - Sensible document defaults for CMYK documents. - User-definable tooltip delay. - Pencil and Brush tool ‘Use Fill’ option is now application-wide and saved across sessions. - Swatches are now visible in a list view and use the correct 0-100 values for CMYK. - Added "Convert to Curves" to all shape context toolbars. - "Gamut Check" option for Soft Proof adjustments. - Ability for users with two graphics cards (integrated and discreet) to force Designer to only use the integrated card.   Fixes   We're still writing this (big) list - but basically everything which is marked as [Fixed] in the Bugs section is fixed in this release. Also, every reproducible crash in 1.1.0 is fixed in this release.
