Think I'll switch to AP for final one...

So I had to deal with the urgency of this double character design for an e-learning game.
I used AD to refine the blue pencil sketch.
Traced and refined shapes
And now I'm searching for values that work
Soon full colour version!
Much faster than in AI days...

Hi evtonic3
You can input manually the value you want up to 1024px.

peter reacted to Hafgandil in How to make egg shapes
Yes, of course :) It actually is pretty simple:
So, first I used the egg template of MattP.
I roughly measured the width of the egg at the "equator" (do eggs have equators?) with two vertical guide lines.
The width of the egg template is about 547px. I then divided it by 2 to get half the width ( approx. 273px) put the result
into the Radius of the 3D effect and just played with the settings of the shininess and the other parameters.
In AD the Radius is max 100px if you use the slider, but when you manually feed it with higher values it will apply them as well.
I know this from other programs where it's similiar, very often you have to manually type in values that are not supported otherwise.
It's worth trying this on other options too, if you think the "standard" effect is too low.
Hope you can follow this short instruction, if you have problems, tell me. I could create a video tutorial to show it on screen, actually,
I definitely create a short tutorial on this and share it on youtube. :)

Yes! That's the effect I wanted, but couldn't get. You've cracked it.
Can you post the step by step instructions?

Thanks. This is all MattP's doing. This is one of those now I know...tools, that you'll use all the time.
My first tutorial and pupil. Yay! ;)
Cartoonmike and ronniemcbride would be proud. :D

peter reacted to Roscografik in my pictures with comments about my use of AD
Finished a new picture with AD, I used only the vector mode and really enjoy it. Made this on a cintiq and it works really fine, I can direct sketch and draw. I hope that AD is just at the beginning of a very long life !!

peter reacted to Signalman in Shape Library
I would like to add to this request. I had a large library of symbols and shapes in DrawPlus for use in technical drawings and diagrams and really missed this feature in Affinity! Apart from that it has worked really well and having recently migrated from Windows XP to iMacs was very disappointed at the prospect of losing Page- Photo- and DrawPlus after many years of intensive use. My wife uses PageP and PhotoP every day and we are hanging on on the hope that they will follow soon? Meanwhile, Parallels is the way out!

peter reacted to mission in Linux. Seriously now.
If companies like Autodesk (Maya), The Foundry (Modo), Chaos Group (V-Ray), Next Limit (Maxwell), OTOY (Octane Render) or even Epic Games (Unreal Engine) and many others all find Linux a worthy investment then why nobody is making a real "Photoshop for Linux"?
I'm pretty sure that majority of studios who buy the above products and use it on Linux workstations would also buy Linux versions of Affinity Photo and Affinity Designer. The market IS there, you just have to see it :-)
I personally use PC at home, and THE ONLY reason I'm still on Windows is the fact that there is no competition to Adobe on Linux!

Thanks Jens. Yes, I opened the dmg file, it asked whether to replace original file, said yes... Open new app and same message.
I've now re-installed the whole thing and it seems to have fixed it :)

peter reacted to 00Ghz in Classical Violin
Hi,
My take on a classic. Made the shots dramatic to enhance the feeling of old and prestige. Rendering time was quite short about 5 min each. POST in Affinity Photo Beta. ;)
For more pics check my behance + a modeling timelapse.

I'm sure some of us here in the forum would love to own a slice of Affinity.

peter reacted to Quarian in What is the relationship between Affinity and Serif?
Thank you for clarfying that. I, among others, was worried that Affinity might become a brand of another entity after everyone notices how successful it is becoming. Like the poster up above, I'd figured Adobe and Corel (at minimum) would be throwing offers your way...which is not to say that they aren't (Adobe to kill it; Corel to add it). The developers on the Affinity project have shown many of us an honesty and responsiveness that doesn't seem to exist in much larger entities that they have earned our loyalty. Keep creating software with such integrity...and we will keep supporting you.

peter reacted to Leafdancing in How To Create An Unclosed Circle
There is a little shortcut on the Mac - if you press Option and 5 you should see ∞. Will that help?
edit: seems to work if you choose the symbol font with the Text tool in AD.

Couldn't download the reference photo of the lemniscate you drew with those colorful blocks, but doing the anchor manipulated horizontal dragged circle + duplicating --> flipping it. Let's hope it looks okay.
Just came back from a little twiddling.
Most efficient way is the tear drop method.
