peter reacted to Leafdancing in New Branding for Affinity
Only a personal opinion, and I hope you don't mind, but I much prefer the older logos. The new Affinity Publisher logo seems particularly bland ( sorry! ). As Ulrik says, it is the software that is most important. Only best wishes from me for those.

peter reacted to CartoonMike in The Pumpkin Tutorial
Hi all. I'm alive and kicking. The , um, recent unpleasantness is all over and I'm none the worse for the wear.
And then there's this: here's good news and bad news.
Bad news, is that I have no freaking idea when the final part of the tutorial will be done.
Good news, is that now that I'm hale and healthy (so to speak), I'm experiencing an unbridled rush of creativity and energy. And it's all directed at my comics. Unfortunately, the art is strictly raster and not vector. So my use of AD is limited. And since it's comics, I'm using Manga Studio and not AP -- as I enjoy having my entire story open at once (from 24 to 130 pages) and being able to effortlessly go from page to page. Again, it's that using the best tool for the job at hand thing.
Over the past two weeks, I've written and laid out a 130 page Graphic Novel. The longest sustained narrative I've ever done, btw. It's a story that's been clamoring to get out of my mind-maze for some time and I just let loose and let it out. It's one of those things, artistically, that I cannot let go of and it is all-consuming until I finish it. All. 130+. Pages. Of. It.
If I could be excused, this once, and post work not done in an Affinity product, I'd like to share a bit of the work with y'all. This is from what I plan to use as a back cover of the story and (maybe?) as a promo piece for the Graphic Novel (it's title is Hard Rock Candi, btw). The art is still WIP, but the text is "golden" as in finished.
Going just a titch current-event-y, I began writing this story before the brouhaha in Indiana, US began and as time passes, the story becomes more relevant. Art should always strive to shake up the status-quo, whenever possible, ya know.
Anyway, backing away from completing the tutorial is not a decision I made lightly. I gave it much thought. It would take about 2-3 weeks to complete (and some time to catch up with the changes in AD and the introduction of Affinity Photo) and at this time, it would be time that needs to be used to work on the graphic novel and two other stories that I'm con-currently working on. IOW, my heart's in doing my comics and not in the tutorial.
I'm sure most here understands how the creative river flows and understands my decision. And if you don't, my sincere apologies. I do suggest checking out everything Ronnie McBride's doing. His tutorials are really good and he's worked up a good backlog of stuff on his YouTube channel that every one should get caught up on.
I'll still be around, but not to the extent I was last year.
See y'all around these parts, fellow pixel-pushers!

Nice job!
As MEB said...more tools are on the way and with pics like this, skew/morph/envelope and isometric tools will soon speed up the work flow.

Cheers Peter, I figured that dogs were under represented in the forum and thought I'd do my bit to even things out a little. Woof! :D

Here is some recent client work. 3 stylized doggies for a doggy daycare on Oahu. All in Draw Persona in Designer.

I'm a brand new user, and have been enjoying Affinity Designer.
I haven't yet explored beyond the "Draw" Persona, but in many ways, the program hearkens back to the simplicity and power of the MacDraw / Claris Draw programs, but brought into a more modern world.
I've been playing around with geometric tilings. This design has hundreds if not thousands of curves and filled areas, and I haven't really run into any performance problems (yet).
I'm looking forward to seeing how far I can go with this!

Hi Gregory.
There's a lot of Hindiusm in this picture, what is your source of inspiration? Is it religious art or is it more travelling? I could see this picture on the back of a tuk-tuk and expect it to have been there forever. Either way you've got a style that sits quite easily between India and what was once called Indo-China. What is that font? What does it say?
Well done.

Good start Jakub. Nice model.
Looks like maybe some perspective matching is a little off. Particularly the bicycle rider (a shadow underneath him would help put him on the ground) and the dark wall on the left hand side, it seems a bit off compared to the buildings left stone wall vertical. Until there is perspective tool, some guidelines would do the job.
Maybe some brightness and contrast tweaking too would help to match up with the strong sunlight of the photo.
Also as I'm sure you're aware there is a pretty glaring mis-match on the cement curb area...

peter reacted to Jakub Galczynski in Architecture Rendering
Attached is my first Affinity Photo project. I made a rendering using Rhinoceros w/ Vray plug-in. The post production was all done in Affinity Photo. Things I had issues with or am working on :
- Panoramic Tool? I had to use GIMP.
- Skew / Image Perspective tool? Has this been added?
- Grass brush? Where is it?
- The lasso tool is a bit odd for me, still. I can't get the hang of it. Adobe's was more user friendly.
- The wand tool is choppy, regardless of how much time I spent changing parameters. I don't have time to select everything with the lasso.
All in all, awesome work Affinity Team! The interface is really nice. I am still learning and am excited to watch this develop.

peter got a reaction from Xarahla in Your thoughts for a newbie?
Affinity. Yes, it's slick, easy, intuitive, affordable and powerful.
Illustrator. No, it's hard work, slow, expensive and bloated.
As for thoughts: stop thinking and buy AD.
To misquote Eric Clapton "I got the Serif (Affinity), but I didn't use the Adobe" :P
Illustrator...? More like frustrater!

peter reacted to Paul Bravery in Introduce Yourself
Hi, I'm Paul Bravery and I'm a long time user of Serif software (PagePlus, WebPlus & PhotoPlus) since the 1990's until I ditched Windows XP 3 years ago.
I now use both GNU/Linux (Linux Mint) & Mac OS X (Yosemite) at home and have been using Mac OS since 1992 in a production environment (v7.7.5-10.6.8), beginning with Adobe Illustrator 5 and now using Adobe CS 5.
I'm really pleasantly surprised to see Serif enter the Mac platform after being so strongly Windows-centric!
:D
