peter reacted to eejits in eejits
Cheers mate. I don't think I'd be a political cartoonist, not really into politics but a cartoonist, yeah, I'll do that!! :D
About not breaking into the big time: I'm the bottleneck. I don't work hard or smart enough and I'm held back by self doubt. It's an affliction that I battle against daily. But with every creation I get closer. I'm gonna keep plugging away and dreaming big.
Thanks again for the great words of encouragement!
Onwards and upwards! :D :D :D

Funny you should do this, as I've been cutting down trees today.
I really love that axe and the eyelids. Great work as usual.
As for the title/description: what would dear old Sigmund Freud Suggest? Little tossers, perhaps? :P
Gents look after your choppers/wood, love and kisses from your local GUM clinic (Think Viz/Embarrasing Bodies/Club 18-30).

P.S Why hasn't a newspaper signed you up yet, as political cartoonist? You really are so close to the big time...C'mon art editors give this man the break he needs and deserves.

Thanks Madame.
I wasn't fishing for compliments there just genrally stating how my thoughts and feelings are these days in regards to my creative process. I sometimes feel like I'm wasting the potential that eejits has.
But don't worry I'll still be creating characters for everyone to enjoy, least alone for me to have fun with. Just having a moan.....
Thanks for the encouragement,
George

An experiment with vector strokes and building a style for creating textured fills with stroke/fringed edges. A little bit of an ink and wet media look and more opaque strokes.
Doffing my hat to the Affinity Design developers.

This is all vectors?!? Mind boggling?
This is a testament to both your talent and skill as well as the flexibility of the AD! Amazing stuff.

It really looks painted on paper :) Hard to believe it's digital and vector based.
Great job! Thanks again for sharing your work with us.

peter reacted to Octograficus in Logo redesign with affinity
Thank you. My English is not enough to make a tutorial... In Spanish perhaps, but I have not done anything that has not been taught in thousands of tutorials out there on the Internet, I've just done with Affinity, which is a plus for colors and textures. The grain is best.
Thank you. Thanks, but Sony Ericsson logo is old and dull, mine is cooler :P

Ooh! This could be such a good metaphor; I think, it's one of your best to date. :D
It reminds me of a scene, from the film Ghost. This could will be another candidate for my PIFs. The trap could refer to debt, addiction, gambling or mental health...ie get help before it's too late. Or quit Adobe's CC plan and buy Affinity instead. ;)

Made with Designer. It is the redesign of the logo a solar energy company. They were not happy with his ex-designer :P Now we are happy. Thanks affinity, this design is impossible in Ai (quickly, love the color noise and effects in real time).

Hi CartoonMike,
Thanks for taking time out to respond with this wonderful lesson (beta tutorial, would be much honest description :)). An excellent write up. Put this on Youtube! Pictures, screen grabs and this transcript; or speak to the AD team!
www.asklynda.com, www.askcartoonmike.com should be the best way to go.
When it comes to drawing, with pencils and paper, i.e analogue - then I really struggle. Just drawing straightish lines, circles and simple shapes is really hard for me. Which in a forum like this must look a bit strange, a non artist in a digtial art forum...I can use a camera and keyboard, so all is not lost.
However, when it comes to working with layers, then I suppose I am at the Superman logo level, that you mentioned. The tools I use the most are the Quickshapes, layers and fonts, (ooh yeah I like my fonts by the bucketload). As for working with layers:
See http://www.pinterest.com/peter2111/serifcom
The Akira picture, was a difficult process broken down into bite size chunks, using DVD ripping software, DrawPlus and PhotoPlus
convert DVD to JPG Cut, feather and layer individual image segments into place convert canvas to brick work and make people think I have talent.
So, even without the ability to use the pen/pencil tools, I can still produce something half decent.

peter reacted to crabtrem in To all my fellow noobs, it's okay to share your work.
As I look through all the outstanding work on the share your work section, I feel more like an amateur than ever. But that is okay, because I am one. This is my work so far. It is not anywhere in the class of so many outstanding works of art. I am still relying heavily on photo reference. I try to concentrate on a new style or technique with each project. I am not sure why I am even sharing my work, except maybe to give more noobs like me the emphasis that it is okay to go ahead and share your work with this community.
I am hoping more of you that share your work, will also make tutorials too. Half the battle for me is I know where I want to get, but organizing the path to get there is the real battle. Clever uses of blend modes, opacity, the clever uses of vector brushes or various fills for shading and reflections, all top my list of goals I wish to achieve.
I am no professional, and have no real training. Just learning as I go. I learn a lot every time I participate in these forums. So I decided to share some screen shots too.
And thanks to the Affinity team for finally providing the tools I actually feel comfortable and inspired with.

Nice post, crabtrem :) More than 'it's okay to share your work', I'd say it should be positively encouraged! :D

Great logo, David! Free cake sounds like a wondrous thing - but be careful, I've heard that apparently if you eat too much cake you'll get fat, can't believe it myself though... but if you ever need to move any of that free cake on to a deserving home, I'm sure the boys and girls at Affinity will help you with that, hehe ;)

peter reacted to digital_wampa in Batman & Spiderwoman - comic style illustrations
Not an original illustration of mine but all line-work and coloring done in vectors with Aff Designer.
All vectors used vector brushes and created a soft vector brush for shading.
Updated a couple of things... shading lines etc

Why does the Affinity forum not have an emoticon for twiddling-thumbs or semipatiently-tapping-feet?
