A series of friends portrait all made with the help of photo references.
Only the last one (lutin) was made with Affinity photo. The latter with AD.

peter reacted to Lee D in Export with 1x or 2x or 3x?
Hi Peterkaosa,
These options relate to the resolutions, so 1x is standard, the size you want your project to be by default, the others are for retina versions of the export area. So twice or three times the default.
Hope this helps

peter got a reaction from MattP in A drawing - from start to finish
This is the STRAVA pat-yourself-on-the-back video: showcasing the whole of my 2015 season Rides and runs.
Riding on the roads, all weathers, day and night. All this data was up loaded from my Garmin GPS watch and uploaded after every ride.
STRAVA is not Facebook, but it is the social media site where you upload your post ride/run data and have the routes taken logged and displayed on the map. There is also a photo hosting option too.
Take a look at this vacancy, what do you think? Or you could just send off a speculative email/Linked-in message...

Good luck.

Dan, I'm gobsmacked at how fantastic that all looked; the antique title cards just added to authenticity.
Did you use the Paste Inside option to add the half tone?
After seeing a couple of your videos, Showreel 2015/1; the Pear (Linux) cafe scene and the Flanders Fields. (an important scene, in cycling in the Spring Classics).
You've got to show these to STRAVA (the Facebook for runners and cyclists). Because your work is exactly what they would enjoy.
I have the video but it's an MP4 but it won't upload here.

Both of them are good. The first says Google to me, the second says Pinterest, they could work together as a yin and yang.
Maybe there is a third option? What is your favourite local font/alphabet?
Do you want the word to be read quickly or slowly?
I think you should look at Nelly Kay NF font, both legible and sympathetic to the local culture, IMHO.

peter got a reaction from Madame in Halloween invites
This is my design for my then Girlfriend's (now ex) fundraising party for her and her friend to raise money £1500 each, to then ride for 4 days from London to Paris. It was good to see the finished article; all printed, cut and handed out
The party itself went down well, with fancy dress being the big draw.
The cards were designed in monochrome, then printed onto orange stock card, with eight cards per A4 sheet.
I used clip art for the bats and had to stretch the font to add a sense of elegance and fill up the white space.

peter got a reaction from bodobe in Stupid Work
Hi dkaiser,
Welcome to the forums.
Firstly, there is nothing stupid about these images. In fact I'd say they were rough-and-ready. You've obviously not decided on which style you like...pen versus brush etc; but that will come with time and practice.
Glad to see that you were bursting with enthusiasm with your new toy. :D

Finally was able to make the switch at work from Illustrator to Affinity Designer for any graphic images we use.
Created this guy for a website based of the logo. I love the ability to adjust the stroke pressure to add a bit of variety in the stroke wide.

peter reacted to Deadbyxmas in Affinity illustrations and experiments
Thanks all, I'll try to share as much as I can. Jeki, I use textures (sometimes), so import some on a layer, mask it using shape you want to add the texture to (that's why it's so easy to add textures to vector pics). And then adjust the kind of blend (overlay, soft light etc) for the effect you want to achieve. I actually like it subtle.
For instance I used one on the next pic - which is a Affinity forum exclusive!
thanks again

Nope, but that does sound familiar.
Wait....searches on Bing...found it! GREAT SCOTT!
Yup, just read it on the Telegraph's website (A posh English newspaper).

Hope this gets the chance to see tarmac/asphalt, rather than tarpaulin. See how they ducked under the 325 unit limit, to get an exemption, from the modern safety rules. B)

peter reacted to Gear maker in 1925 Renault 40CV Tourer
Thought you might like to see what I have been working on for the last month or so. It's a 1925 Renault 40CV Tourer. I actually don't care for the nose view of this car so I kept this view from the side, which I think has an elegant style.
Only 1162 vector layers on this one. ;) I've attached a couple areas that have been zoomed in on.
I'm trying to decide if I'm going to do a 1934 Rolls-Royce Phantom II Kellner Cabriolet next or a 1924 Isotta Fraschini Tipo 8A. I love the style of both of these.

George, stop doubting yourself...doubting's my job.
As you don't do politics, then how's this for setting you up, for a great start to your day?
Goes down great in the Trump household! :P
Basically what I'm trying to say is imagine a certain eejit on a cloud, eating a bowl of (insert poor-attempt-to-mimic-name-of-cereal-market-leader).
Just do a mockup of a cereal box say, and send it to the marketing boys and girls like Poundland/Aldi/Lidl, even Sainsbury's etc. This is what they want. Top notch quality artwork like YOURS at Happy Shopper prices.
I've said this before good artists copy, great ones steal.
Take a leaf out of Dan's book and go all Christmassy (It's only Feb, sorry folks) and knock up an advent calendar; Easter has already been sorted for 2016.
Post it online, say it's available in the shops (insert name of shops). You can get away with this April fool's day, even lawyers have a sense of humour...usually when sending out invoices.
BTW Kinnertons are famous for Easter eggs and advent calendars; I've included this, to give you a well needed kick up the proverbial.

You can do it George; we're all behind you...waiting for the free chocolate ;)
Good luck to ya from all of us...

peter reacted to Gear maker in The Streetcar Boat
I think I’m finally done with my latest drawing, The Streetcar Boat. In 1905 there were streetcars that went from Minneapolis to the shore of Lake Minnetonka, but the people living around Lake Minnetonka needed a way to continue to their homes. So a set of 6 steam boats were built to resemble streetcars. These boats added 27 more stops to the streetcar line.
In 1926 the 6 boats were deemed no longer necessary and were scuttled in the middle of the lake. In 1979 a diver found the wreck of the Minnehaha and it was raised. After 17 years of restoration it was put back in service on weekends in the summer making runs between two cities across the lake.
Being 1600 miles away and the wrong time of the year, I used pictures I had and pictures on the web to construct as much detail as possible. Right down to screws and rivets.
At 4,638 layers, all vectors, it’s my largest drawing so far. Zooming from the full image to some of the smaller detail requires a zoom of about 80,000%. So AD is about the only program capable of the detail.

Hi Peter,
Thanks for your comments. I will try changing the blending modes to see what I can get. It was a learning experience. I think with some work it might be a nice technique.
Best,
Darin
