  1. Good picture there, why not put this on a 2nd hand mac as a desktop image and then install AD on that as well? She'll definitely have the best present under the tree. The gift that keeps on giving - Affinity! :D
  2. Err the Queen, as seen on ALL UK stamps. It is so iconic, all other countries MUST have their name on them. Waldo is called Wally here in blighty Other heads...Mickey Mouse, Charlie Chaplin, Laurel & Hardy, Darth Vader, Buddha (most statued person in the world). Napoleon Bonaparte: then there's Hitler, Churchill and a few other famous politicians like Lenin, Thatcher etc. Not to mention L.DaVinci, Darwin, Robin Hood. I like the Chinese idea: a lot! Any Pekinese/Cantonese words spring to mind? You asked What is essential to putting ink on paper? Making the right decisions accuracy pressure paper/stock/velum or any other substrate, size, coating, weight and texture drying time consistency choice of pigment - dye, special or wax based inks choice of methods and machinery - offset, litho, screen, roller, inkjet, hot metal Customer needs - durability, security, brand identity (regarding fonts and colours etc) and other usage requirements TRAINING and KNOWLEDGE Hope that answered a few questions for you and got those ol' grey cells working :P peter
  3. Great minds think alike eh Ronnie? ;) What about dropped caps in a paragraph? A logo based on William Gutenburg's head or his printer? You know the twist handle section. If the roller spews out the paper, then surely the text should mention the App's name. What say you? peter
  4. All those years with DrawPlus and I never used that tool...D'oh!
  5. Layer colour is yellow, after following your instructions. The thing is I don't know how it changed. It wasn't something I right-clicked on...until now. Seems like a very handy feature after all. Node tool select shows orange bounding box.

  7. Great job! Designer should have a pencil tip and loaded sharpener. Colour yellow - Staedtler's favourite. Photo should have a reel of 35 mm film and a polaroid or two. Colour lilac - Just like the wash trays/crystals. Publisher should have a rolled up newspaper, magazines etc... or put the nib tip upwards within the triangle. Coloured red - UK tabloids. Hope this helps enhance your icons.
  8. The apple is famously linked to Alan Turing (Part of the team who cracked the Nazi Enigma computer), Snow White/Wicked Witch and his tormented suicide/oppressed sexuality.
  9. This is a challenge! I'll give it a go! As mentioned by Vectorcat: Photoshop/Illustrator naming is a market winner: whereas ID=no idea. So can the Affinity team change its spots? If we come up with a stonker of a name for each app or the whole suite; then it's time to rename the 'litter'. The holy trinity of brand names are thus: it must be a noun it must be a verb it must be an adjective One out of three is good, two out of three is great... Here's my ideas: Affinity Photo = Affinity Developer Affinity Designer = Affinity Poster or Graphiq Affinity Publisher = Affinity Press(pack) or Quill or Illuminator (I know...!) What do you think?
  10. Now introducing BIZZARE ER'S new illustrator.
  11. Nope, still on Mavericks. Just downloaded 0.19988, still the same...Yellow bounding box, but this is only on one document.
  12. This was made in the paid for version, but opened in both betas...new projects are still blue.
  13. This app works! Just give AD time to grow and develop and one day this thoroughbred will be Adobe's worst nightmare, racing ahead of the competition. For a post Beta/public release, the Affinity team have done a fantastic job and it shows in your work. Less time: reading manuals=more time drawing.
  14. What about selecting all of the document and reducing the opacity/transparency to 50/70%?
  15. Hi royfactorial, Have you tried this? copy/export your pie chart into AD paste/place on to your page use the Quickshape tool to create a pacman face copy and paste this over the first pie chart use the red dots to adjust the proverbial pizza slices. then using a combination of copy, paste, lock and the various colours tools adjust each slice to fit... Good luck! Ps I've made an art form out of tracing!
  16. "Red Star Control: Airwolf...all systems go!" B) Just finished it/them, enjoy. Had problems with colouring in: needed to create more closed shapes. The hoses and zips took forever! Learning curve: like a wheel chair ramp. Productivity curve: going ballistic, man! Stewie Moffett Pilot line and Colour Finished.afdesign
  17. Cheers mate, glad you like it. See what you've done :P...hours of sweat and toil. I've printed, traced and mashed a few more images. So when I get the chance I'll add a few more. Working from a solid image feels like cheating! I like that!!! Should I add colour to this or add a new image of Stewie?
  18. I give it the thumbs up: how did the thumb print get on the inside of the glass?
