Cealcrest reacted to MEB in Forget / Reset Rotation
Hi Affiniter,
Welcome to Affinity Forums
You don't need to reset the rotation of the shape (now picture frame) to fix the image position. Double-click the image on canvas (to select it directly) then set the rotation field to 0 in the Transform panel.
Create a larger object over it, select both and perform an intersect operation (menu Layer > Geometry > Intersect).

Cealcrest reacted to Aammppaa in Publisher: creating and placing multiple photo frame (rows and columns) at once??
Another workaround would be to use the Column (and Row) Guides in the Guide Manager?
Again - not as advanced / interactive as the ID tool you demonstrate, but might get the job done.

Cealcrest reacted to budaloco in Affinity designer -> After effects vectors
I have a wonderful trick for Apple motion (might work for after as well...thing is Motion is almost instantaneous). I do my designs in Affinity designer and then save everything as PSD. Make sure the file is RGB and import in apple motion as layers. The cool thing is that if you modify the PSD in any way...as long as you don't add EXTRA layers...the file with all the animation will be fully editable. Really useful if you do social media graphics that change things like dates.

Cealcrest reacted to A.Sequel in Affinity Sequel
Hi There,
Are you planning to release a program similar to After Effects, but in affinity style?
Now that would be the best.

Cealcrest reacted to doomy in After Effects Alternative
Apologies if what I said was in any way taken as a jab at you all. I don't expect you to update status, I was just remarking that it was from 2016 since many things can change in 3 years - though I don't expect an update. My reply is more aspirational than anything else; again - I am not saying I expect you or your company to provide me with software I specifically want to buy. If that was your business model I don't think it'd last very long.
I have no clue how your company is structured nor where efforts are being focused - it's possible for all I know that Serif has a million employees all working on new creative applications with a release date near in the future. It's also possible that you have a small team and are choosing to support the products you already have released. Or it's even possible it's just one very, very tired programmer in a 100sqft apartment. I wouldn't know.
In other words, I greatly enjoy Designer and Photo, and I'm a big fan of Serif's business models and focus on improving UX. You can't blame me for wanting Serif AE
I appreciate the response.

Cealcrest reacted to Zaxx81 in After Effects Alternative
I am really enjoying the Affinity Suite of Products as professional design products and alternatives to Adobe products. Are there any plans for an After Effects alternative in the next couple of years? This is the app I miss the most from Creative Cloud.

Cealcrest reacted to doomy in After Effects Alternative
That's sad to hear. Where did you get that info that they are not looking into an AE inspired software? I only can find a thread from 2016.
There is no After Effects alternatives, full stop. Natron is ambitious, but it's more similar to Nuke, and also is not actively developed (or at least it needed a maintainer for quite some time so it's on the way to abandonware).
I've done several hours of search for some hypothetical non-adobe video alternative, and it simply doesn't exist somehow. If you want to do motion graphics or video effects, AE is legitimately the only way to do that.
I really hope Serif chooses to make an Affinity Video some day so I can finally cancel my Adobe account once and for all.

Cealcrest got a reaction from MmmMaarten in Moonlight Serenade
Had fun allowing the background to double as a color with this one.
Although I have never done it myself, one of my favorite illustration production methods is screen printing. With each color applied separately, there are happy accidents like the plates not lining up exactly right that make every copy unique. Because I went even simpler by omitting overlapping colors, this piece had to be planned and executed differently than previous pieces I’ve done. I had to allow for contrast, details, and a light source within a very limited color palette of 3 colors (near black, orange, and grey) on a more vintage off-white base.
This is true vector with one subtle texture raster layer over the top that can easily be replicated for any size.
Happy Sunday, all!

Cealcrest reacted to madPXL in All Affinity apps combined in only one for 2.0 release? :)
It would be great to have one software to buy, one software to have for updates, one place to do everything, and one place for all personas with export!
And don't miss the long-missing fixes/updates we need for Designer (copy paste fx with same values, free transform, etc...)

Cealcrest reacted to iconoclast in All Affinity apps combined in only one for 2.0 release? :)
I could imagine a main administration instance, with the apps as subdivisions. So that, whatever of the three apps you start, you have the three personas to switch between the apps - not only from Publisher. That could be helpful and nice. And this instance would also manage the content of all three apps: templates, assets, brushes, styles... So like you can switch between the different workspaces (Studio Presets), you could also switch between the apps. This main instance could f.e. be called "Affinity Central" or "Affinity Base" ( if it needs a name), but it doesn't need its own interface. It is only the background structure that links the single apps to each other.
But I would definitely not like to have all three apps gathered in one GUI. Because that would mean that we would have to scroll through overloaded menus and to spend a lot of time with searching for and navigating to certain features.

I agree with that we need export persona in Publisher.

Cealcrest reacted to iconoclast in All Affinity apps combined in only one for 2.0 release? :)
I don't think that I would like all the stuff in only one app. I'm afraid that would make it very cluttered and would possibly cost performance. And it would blow up the price. And some people don't need all that stuff. Why should they pay for it?
But I could imagine some progress in the Studiolink technology. For example that you don't need to install Assets, brushes, styles... for each app separately. That would be nice. Even because I'm afraid that I installed some Designer Brushes to Photo, that cost disc space now, without working or even appearing in the app.

Hmm, I think I still would prefer three different applications that could work with each other through the Persona Switching.

Cealcrest reacted to oushie in Applying gradient to multiple objects across multiple artboards in Affinity Designer
@Lagarto(Light bulb moment) AHHHH yes, that is the key! You're right. If you make copies, it applies the gradient to each object, independent of the artboard. Thank you for your insight. As for styles, I will explore but have had no luck applying the gradient to a stroke. I will explore further. I also appreciate your tip about using edit>paste style. Thank you for your time. It's very much appreciated.

Cealcrest reacted to telemax in Add new option to Transform Objects Separately
Perhaps it should be called "Local Transform"
I used to assume that this must work through some kind of equation in the input fields, in the Transform panel.

Cealcrest reacted to JimmyJack in Creating an Interactive Loupe - for no particular reason 🙃
Fun little exercise with no real practical use (I think).
Interactive Loupe:
Couple of notes:
• Requires filter(s) in Photo. It's not using actual zoom. It's using either a Spherical or Punch filter, and therefore is limited to their 100% values.
• To set a custom center point for the chosen effect click on canvas when it's panel is active.
• The three elements need to be selected as separate entities and moved together. Grouping them destroys the different "lock children" attributes needed.
• I'm not sure how useful it is. It's not really a tool per se. And Affinity doesn't do animation, so... there are faster ways to get to the same end result (without limitations) for a static output. Although, the slight curve of the filters sells the effect nicely 🤔.
• So it's really just kinda more of a fun trick. That's why I'm putting it here in Tutorials, rather than Resources.
That being said.... have a play.

Cealcrest reacted to iconoclast in Chinese horoscopes
Looks very nice! Somehow modern and vintage at the same time. Only one thing, I would criticize:
The contrast of the years, lying on the Chinese letter, is too dull. Not nice and easy to read.

Cealcrest reacted to FraGar in Resize multiple objekts in one go.
I ran into a problem with resizing of multiple objekts (holes to be shrunk and still to be in the same center spot)
and I got a lot of werry good advice from the forum after asking in "Affinity on Desktop Questions (macOS and Windows)".
So I thought that I'd share it with you.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
First i got from EmT:
"In Affinity Designer you would be able to create the object as a 'Symbol' and this would then allow global editing. Please see attached video for more information.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6j--9mf2siQ "
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Then I asked "Is it posible to make the "Symbol" follow a path?" like this.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
And I got from EmT:
"Unfortunately that is not a current feature, however if you use power duplicate, it will move the next duplication relative in space and sizing, to the first duplication. The video below should demonstrate this.
https://youtu.be/bSm15HGADzk?t=144 "
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Then I got from Alfred:
"The Move Tool ‘Transform Objects Separately’ option should give you the result you want.
Affinity Designer Help: Transforming objects (bottom of page)
Affinity Spotlight: 10 things we love about Affinity Designer 1.7 (item 8)"
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Then I got from G13RL:
"Without using symbols, you can place objects along a curve.
Draw the curve, duplicate it on itself. Draw a circle, duplicate it (on itself or not) as many times as necessary. Select all circles, "Cut".
Take "Artistic Text Tool", click on the curve, "Paste".
Adjust the spacing between the circles using "Tracking" in the "Character" tab of the studio."
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
And last I got from Hens:
"But with symbols there's much more to play with 😉"

Finally here are the results of this help.
