Cealcrest reacted to AaronShep in how can I export from affinity publisher to indesign
Bruce, InDesign exports to IDML, which Publisher can them import. I would like to be able to make the return trip, however imperfectly.

Cealcrest reacted to Lee_T in RESET THE ORIENTATION OF A ROTATED IMAGE
Hi Segnika,
You should be able to do the same operations as listed.
Use either period "." or Select > Cycle Selection Box to toggle between methods. What is the issue you are having with the Geometry > Add command?

Cealcrest reacted to Hangman in Can't Batch Place with Alt+Click
Hi @Cealcrest,
I don't believe you're doing anything wrong, the function appears to be broken in Publisher 2.2.1 and the current 2.3.0.2096 Beta. It's working correctly in 2.0.4 however so this looks like a regression which needs to be logged.

Cealcrest reacted to Ash in Placing multiple page PDF
Just to say, that method imports the PDF (so it will be editable), which in many cases is what you want. However the new place auto-flow feature was originally implemented because of the request many people had to place a multi-page PDF. Using this route each page of the PDF is added as a place file - meaning they could all be set to passthrough for example. This is a better method if you do not need to edit your PDF.
Lets say you had an A4 PDF with 100 pages. The way to do this is would be to add an A4 page to your Publisher document, create a picture frame the size of the entire page, then go to file-place and choose the PDF you want (without the picture frame selected). This will bring up the place panel. This allows you to choose which page you want to place, but also above the file thumbnail there is a > which allows you to expand to see all pages. Do that then hit cmd-a (or shift select first and last page to select all the pages you want to place) and then hit the picture frame. Publisher will then add all the additional pages to your document automatically and place each page of the PDF file separately on those pages.

Thank you very much, I appreciate your kind words. All the textures on the station were created by me using custom brushes. For the lights I used a square that had random luminance. I drew large blanks of this texture and then placed them within the vector shapes. The planet was from the stock tab, I initially was using it as a placeholder as I often do, but it worked so well that I left it in.

Cealcrest got a reaction from MarkIrish in The Last Sortie
Um... this is so cool! Could pass for movie/video game concept art.
Did you add some bitmaps for textures like the lights and the planet surface?

Cealcrest reacted to MarkIrish in The Last Sortie
I've come up with a workflow that seems to work for me. I spend my mornings sketching abstract shapes. I draw them the old-school way with pencil and paper. I cut out the “good” ones and keep them in a folder for inspiration. I then take a digital picture of the one I want to work with and place it into Designer. After recreating the shape I start to see what I can come up with. I've posted the original sketch and the final product. I never know where these drawings are going to go, but that's what I like… the journey, and hopefully a decent destination.

Cealcrest reacted to GaryRS in Towers and Turrets
We're running a Towers/Turrets challenge on the Affinity Designer - hands on group (winners entry gets pride of place on the group banner)... this is my example of a 100% vector turret. Grabbed some grunge textures from Vecteezy, and used the warp tool in version 2. Come and join in!!! https://www.facebook.com/groups/323847269739786 www.gsdesignstudio.co.uk

Cealcrest reacted to adam1762 in OMD - B-Sides - reproduction (Affinity Designer)
It depends on how accurate the reproduction is, e.g. RedBubble did not accept this design for me and many others, but they keep some of my designs to check if they violate copyright, so I have learned not to make too accurate reproductions, I will give you an example , it is better to use a similar font than to recreate the curves of the original font, the same goes for the graphics, visually they seem to be the same, but if you look closely you will see the difference, after Redbubble checks the copyright, the project is approved for sale or not.

Cealcrest reacted to Nikhail in The Whittler (Versions 1 & 2)
Here are my two attempts at "The Whittler" illustration project from the Affinity Designer Workbook. I forgot to mention in my "Reflected Skyline" post is that every upload that contains two images from the workbooks are years apart. The V1s were done on a low-budget laptop I had since college which still works to this day! The V2s were completed on a much better system. I must admit that I could've put a bit more effort into V2, especially with the robot's neck but hopefully that'll be done if I ever decide to tackle it again

Cealcrest reacted to VectorVonDoom in Fri 13th. Cats "easter egg" in the style panel
Thanks but no thanks. I'm fine with a bit of fun, who isn't? But that's more of a pain than fun as you can't easily see which one to pick. I don't care if it's just the odd day I don't need slowing down any more than I usually am (I've got literally thousands of objects to do with styles this time). Do it more like the shapes panel and make it a user decision.

Cealcrest reacted to smadell in Relighting Macro - FREE Download
I am attaching a macro category called “Seth’s Relighting.” The relighting macro lets you selectively darken and lighten areas of an image to add drama, create areas of interest which draw the viewer’s eye, and make up for flat lighting. It is free for anyone to download and enjoy. The category includes two macros – one for setting up a set of layers and a second which provides on-screen instructions.
The macro sets up a series of adjustments, filters, and masks, all of which are enclosed within a Group. In that way, the effect can be turned on or off by quickly showing or hiding the Group. The various layers inside the group are numbered, indicating the best order in which to use them. There are on-screen instructions (the second macro) as well as a video attached to this post. (Feel free to download the video too, if you’d like.)
To summarize, the layers allow you to darken the overall photo with a Curves layer, then indicate areas that need highlighting. Both the amount of darkening and the amount of lightening are entirely customizable (and non-destructive). The color of the highlight is also editable.
Using the Relighting Macro.mp4 The attached macro category should be imported into the Library panel, using the “hamburger menu” at the top right corner of the panel. The macros were created in Affinity Photo version 2 and, therefore, will not be compatible with version 1.
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
As with all of the macros that I have submitted over the years, please remember that I am one person working with one computer (and one iPad). I have tested the macros as extensively as I can, and have been using them in my own work for several months now. However, there is no way to have foreseen all possible scenarios that another user might encounter. I believe that the macros function well, although I cannot make any guarantees.
If you like the macro, please keep it and enjoy it. It is free to use in both personal and commercial work. All I ask in return is that you post a comment in the Forum (below this post) and let me know that you are using it and (hopefully) enjoying it. As you continue to get better and better in your editing skills, please try to “pay it forward” by contributing your expertise and your resources to others in the community.

Cealcrest reacted to Victoria Lasher in Smileys
They are not "just badges", they are a designer/artist's creation. Trying to compare taking a photo of someone else's art and then selling something you made from that, to taking a photo of a plant and using it to make something and then sell it is ridiculous. If the badges had Disney characters on them would you consider it OK to take a picture and do what you did? Believe me Disney would not agree. You might get away with it if Disney didn't find out, but it would still be dishonest. By using photos you took of someone else's art and selling it as your own you are being dishonest.
Also, NO you can not use someone else's art just because you paid for it. Let's use Disney as an example again. If you buy a badge with a picture of Mickey, or any other Disney character, and take a picture of it and "create and asset" by setting it up so things can be changed, as you said you did with the badges, it's still Disney's and if they find out they will come after you. You will get a cease-and-desist order and they will go after any profits you made and damages, and they will win!
So now I am also curious, did you buy a Universal License when you purchased your copy of Affinity? Because you can't sell stuff you create with it if you didn't.

Cealcrest reacted to debraspicher in Smileys
I think what we're saying is we hold a copyright whether we state it explicitly or not. We can forfeit our right and distribute it as such, but it has to be explicitly stated. Where you have decided that all creative works fall under free to distribute just because it's not outright stated is not correct.
FWIW, it's not the buttons themselves that is the issue. The graphics you took are more like an image scan and it's likely the artworks on the face of them are copyrighted. Probably not by the manufacturer (unless it was in house), but by the person(s) who licensed the graphics to be used and sold as part of the final design.

Cealcrest reacted to PaulEC in Smileys
I can’t see why downloading images from the internet is any better than copying a physical object! They still belong to someone else and are their copyright.
You’ve uploaded some nice pictures in the past. If I downloaded them and started selling prints of them on eBay or gumroad, would you be OK with that? (You haven’t explicitly said that no one should do that!)

Cealcrest reacted to iconoclast in Smileys
Usually every creative work is copyrighted by it's creator. There doesn't need to be a paper or something that claims the copyright. Quite the contrary: if the copyright owner wants to offer his work for free, he can declare it as free. But if he doesn't, you should be careful, because you possibly break the law. Usually, copyright owners who offer their work for free, do it only for the usage of their work, not for redistribution.
