  1. Woohoo! So excited. Started to watch the update video and had to stop 2 minutes in because I couldn't concentrate. Had to go buy the universal license before I could settle down. Thank you to everyone at Serif for all the work you do and for the epic release offer. You guys are awesome!
  2. That extra click is annoying! Mostly I use my own custom presets, so the scrolling doesn't bother me personally.
  3. Only the new Add Layer icon threw me. It looks like a battery meter or something. I like the old icons because I'm used to them, but I don't care enough to gripe. 😜 I'll be used to the new icons in a week or so. The new features are awesome and are the real point, IMO.
  4. Seeing the subscription question on the survey alarmed me as well. Even though I love Affinity, I would run, not walk, back to Adobe if Affinity went subscription. May as well pay monthly for the industry standard if subscription is necessary either way. Also, it would feel like such a betrayal after Serif consistently marketed their programs as non-subscription.
  5. Microsoft's blue screen of death is famous, but Affinity's red flash of death startles the crap out of me. lol Anyone else?

  6. Wait, another designer stole your art for their logo? Digital cannibalism. That sucks........
  7. Had fun allowing the background to double as a color with this one. Although I have never done it myself, one of my favorite illustration production methods is screen printing. With each color applied separately, there are happy accidents like the plates not lining up exactly right that make every copy unique. Because I went even simpler by omitting overlapping colors, this piece had to be planned and executed differently than previous pieces I’ve done. I had to allow for contrast, details, and a light source within a very limited color palette of 3 colors (near black, orange, and grey) on a more vintage off-white base. This is true vector with one subtle texture raster layer over the top that can easily be replicated for any size. Happy Sunday, all!
  8. Palette functionality seems to be a huge weakness in the iPad version of AD. Import/export, reorder swatches, create palette from document/image, etc. are all missing. Hopefully the next update/version rectifies many of these issues.
  9. Been running into this again! I really hope the new update/version has a highly improved palette functionality.
  10. I also have this problem, but with Mac desktop since the 1.10 upgrade. In the screenshot, you can see a couple of older files with preview thumbnails and then two newer files with generic AD thumbnails. Is there a setting I need to change? Or does anyone know if this has been reported as a bug elsewhere for 1.10? UPDATE I restarted my computer and now all my AD, APub, and APh files have preview thumbnails. Cheers

  13. I have this issue as well, although I have not taken the time to check if it is related to the dashed line.
  14. I'm bookmarking this post as it's the most detailed explanation I've found of a dialog box I didn't even know about before I started reading this thread. I just checked the official AP Workbook and there's nothing about it there either. What gives, Affinity?! Kinda feels like finding buried treasure with an indecipherable map inside though...
  15. I have this same issue after updating to iOS 15.0.1, but not before if that helps. (I may have been a little behind in my iOS updates, but I know I had at least iOS 14 and the 3-finger redo worked.)
  16. I’m not sure what you mean by movies. I’m wanting to do animated infographics either over a static or video background. AE supports vectors. That is, you can manipulate the nodes within AE. So I could copy and paste something I design in Illustrator into AE and it is fully editable. I will look into Motion and Spine. Thank you!
  17. [This is *not* a request for an Affinity animation or motion graphics app. Not that that wouldn't be nice! 👼] Is anyone familiar with/have experience using Affinity Designer and DaVinci Resolve for 2D motion graphics? If so, are there tutorials, YouTube channels, or other resources you recommend that you could point me toward? (I know how to use Google and search, but if you've already waded through the resource morass and have some stuff bookmarked, that would be helpful!) And my more general question is... Does anyone have any informed recommendations on the best mograph app to use alongside AD? I want to completely dump Adobe and right now AE is the only thing keeping me. A free option would be nice, but not if it sucks. So I'm interested in looking into paid (non-subscription) programs, too. I'm especially interested in anything that can support vectors, but I could do without if I had to. Thank you! (Hope this is in the correct subforum. If not, please move!)
  18. Lovely map! I've been wanting to make some fantasy-style maps for people as gifts in Designer at some point. As far as the difference in spelling... There's a more passive aggressive reason for the different spellings. The short version: When compiling his American dictionary, Noah Webster chose spellings not typically used in British spelling. (Although British spelling wasn't entirely standardized back then anyway, which probably made it easier for him to pull this off.) He did this to differentiate American English from British English. And our language has had this contrived divide in it ever since. Some will argue that Webster merely chose spellings that he personally preferred, but Webster was a smart guy, close to the founders, and my opinion is that he did nothing without consideration. I mean, there's not much that's less random than a guy cataloging an entire language. It requires mad organization, attention to detail, and frankly, obsession. Anyway, I still prefer "grey" to "gray." And the u's don't bother me at all. But then, I'm an English lit major.
  19. I am having the exact opposite problem. My Designer and Photo are from the App Store and updated perfectly. My Publisher is direct and it gives me an error every time I try to update saying that it failed. I finally downloaded the entire thing again from the Affinity website. Hopefully that works. So weird.
  20. So many great features added! I'm especially appreciative of being able to link images, the new select options, saving UI presets, and placed scale. Anyone else smelling shape builder for 2.0? I figure that if they're going to do so much awesome stuff for 1.9, they must be planning something awesome for 2.0
  21. In answer to my own question, upon export from APub it appears that the vector elements are indeed scaled up to whatever the chosen DPI is. The Resource Manager needs to reflect this in some way to avoid user consternation, please.
  22. Irrelevant. Obviously raster portions would not be able to scale. If an AD file is all vectors, there should not be an issue with scaling. I need a solution. Do I have to scale up the *vector artwork* in AD to the exact size I want it in APub? Because that seems quite lame and inflexible. I thought the idea with vectors was you could place and scale to heart's desire without any worry. I'll try exporting to an ACTUAL vector format. Quite frustrated by this goofiness. InDesign doesn't have this problem!
