  1. I hate Canva so much. Sure, they "democratized" design, and now there's even more horrible design assaulting the eyes. They have an uphill battle to fight to win over professional, high-end designers.

I would honestly go to Adobe before admitting I use a Canva product. Fix that market perception, Canva. Adobe says professional (if stodgy and stuck up) and Canva says amateur and unconsidered. Change my mind, Canva.

  2. I still have a variation of this issue and the solution from @GaryLearnTech doesn't work. Whether I release the mouse over a blank area on a page or over a frame on a page, only one image is placed (the last image in the list selected, coincidentally). None of the images load into the place images panel. I'm ready to believe it's user error; I just cannot for the life of me figure out what I'm doing wrong.

In the video, please do not get distracted by the fact that the first image is placed in an already occupied frame. Occupied or empty, I get the same result. I've also tried switching to Publisher by swiping with three fingers versus the Cmd+Tab shortcut and I get the same result with both of those as well.

    Help, please!

  3. I don't know a lot about this, so I apologize for the possibly lame questions. I'm concerned that I'm just now learning about this issue when I've been sending client files to print after exporting from Affinity for a couple of years...

Is CMYK data lost only when directly printing from Affinity? Or do files exported by Affinity to PDF and printed directly through Acrobat (which I think is what you are saying to do) come out alright?

    Thanks!

Does your question mean that when you open the pdfs, you aren't seeing these issues?

One other thing that I figured out, and is going to save my butt with a client today, is that exporting to PNG or JPEG does not result in these glitches.

The first page glitch is the drop shadow suddenly losing transparency and getting jagged on the right end of the document:

The second page glitch is the drop shadow is the same issue but around a photo:

And a file (attached) that this issue developed on today (also after moving from Designer to Publisher), the drop shadow loses the blur over the photo on the left side:

This is a very stressful thing to encounter after working on a project for hours, so I'm really hoping it gets fixed soon. Thanks!

  5. Hello,

Using Publisher V2.1.1, I have encountered multiple transparency glitches that are only apparent after exporting to PDF. The two attached instances involve an FX drop shadow.

My first three or so exports were fine. Then "first page glitch" happened. I added the workaround you can see in "second page glitch" and the export was fine a few times. (Client revisions: RIP). Then "second page glitch" appeared, so I added the same type of workaround for it. The longer I edited and exported the file within Publisher, the more glitches developed on export. (There was another somewhat different glitch later, but my workaround proved better than my initial technique, so I didn't bother saving that glitched version.)

I've attached the working files and their corresponding PDFs. "Second page glitch" is the original file that was created in AD and then opened in AP early on. I wondered if the app switch was part of the issue (even though the glitches appeared after several successful exports in AP), so I saved a version of the file in AP. Then I undid my workaround (box of the same size with Gaussian blur applied) and reapplied the desired drop shadow FX with the same glitched result.

(The client picked the colors.... </3)

OS: macOS Ventura 13.5 and 13.5.1 (Updated after glitches occurred, hoping that would solve it. It did not.)

    hardware acceleration: on

    Thanks!

  6. Why?

    Publisher has greater type controls.

    Designer has greater vector capabilities.

    Photo has greater raster/editing capabilities.

Implentation could start with Studio Link as it stands in Publisher, with more advanced features available only in the particular app. Ultimately, seamless switching between all 3 FULL apps would be game-changing for many workflows.

(Apologies if this has been suggested before. I did some searching and couldn't find a thread on it.)

  7. This has been happening to both my V1 and V2 Designer for months. I'm not using any kind of file sync when saving/exporting. My files are all saved locally to my laptop.

If I don't save immediately prior to export, then it does not hang. So my workaround is to save, then select an object and adjust it by one pixel in any direction and then back, and only then proceed to export persona. This prevents the hang every time.

I share that in case it's relevant and so others can use it until a fix is issued.

Could you attach some of those problem documents on this link please? https://www.dropbox.com/request/qBoyErkmKrTcjw1AqdqV

I am having this problem with a specific template: "Brochure 2022." I've used one other template today "Flyer 2022" and it loaded fine. Both were created in AP v1. I have uploaded them to the same link, Gabe. One difference is that the brochure gives me a notification that a linked image has been modified, while the flyer does not. Whether I attempt to update the linked file or not, the brochure template always causes AP v2 to crash. Both work fine on AP v1.

    Thanks!

  9. The external Batch Place function described from 2:15–2:45 in the official tutorial video does not work for me. (See here: https://youtu.be/kTAwaA4zvHU?t=135)

When I try this, my images open individually as new tabbed projects. (See screenshot.) Which gets pretty fun when there are 50 images. I have tried restarting my app and laptop, using existing (v1 originated) files and new (v2 originated) files. The Place Images panel refuses to populate with this method.

I own 7 apps. And no, that doesn't add up to $200. And no, like you, I haven't been using v1 for 5 years. Difficult anyway, considering Publisher, for example, has only been out for three.

    $55/3 years = $0.05/day

    Confused what your point is.

The several hundred quid's worth of software I purchased has now been discontinued. So basically to ensure it keeps working I have to jump in and grab a £90 new purchase, at the same price as a totally new customer that hasn't already spent several hundred quid on them, or pay god knows what price if I miss this 'offer'.

    Like a subscription, then.

Generally software doesn’t do well in the long-term investment section of a financial portfolio. ;)

Isn’t the going standard for technology 5 years before obsoletion? Maybe less now! I’m not saying I like it, but that’s the reality we live in.

And no, it’s not a subscription. Don’t buy the new versions if you don’t want and keep using your old ones as long as you can. That’s how Adobe (and literally everyone else!) used to be too, before they went subscription.

sounds like a "TAX" just like in adobe, Serif is this this is where you gonna go now. PAY 2 PLAY? 🥵🥶🤢

    Is this a joke?

Publisher was only released three years ago...

This. If there are no bug fixes for V1 owners - bearing in mind some of us have paid hundreds already for this stuff - and the products no longer work, then this is effectively a subscription by any other name.

"Hundreds"? Even if you bought all 5 apps full price (which would require epically bad timing since Serif has sales all the time!) you would maybe clear $200 USD. And if like me you've been using v1 for 5 years... That's pennies per day. In the same amount of time I would have needed to pay Adobe upwards of $3,000!! So yeah, $100 for v2 of all 6 apps is beyond worth it to me, no matter how long it is until v3. (And based on past performance, I don't think it will be anytime soon!) 🚑

And the software still works. It just doesn't have any updates. That's the same as if you bought any piece of software off the shelf back in the day. It would be static unless you purchased an upgrade. Only the bonus with Serif is that they don't charge for anything less than full version upgrades—and then it's your choice whether you upgrade. 🚑
