I don't know how that would be done without also using keystrokes. I use a Wacom (old Intuos 3), and I use the keyboard shortcut of CTL + Spacebar then dragging left or right,ie; Scrubby Zoom. You need to enable Scrubby Zoom in the Settings>Tools.

What Brush are you using? Check the Context Menu, to see if Protect Alpha is checked? Can you provide a full screenshot, especially showing which brush is selected and the context toolbar?

Photo 2.1.0 gradient tool crashes
Ron P. replied to totjoss's topic in Affinity on Desktop Questions (macOS and Windows)
I also could not replicate the crash. I'm curious, why not just start a new document with the size of 256 x 256 ? It just does not seem logical to resize the document immediately upon creation.. 🤔 -
Curve Not Showing

Out of curiosity, what FX did you apply and remove? I've been playing with this for a while trying to figure out why and so far I'm not able to. -
Float window (Publisher)
Ron P. replied to podge's topic in Affinity on Desktop Questions (macOS and Windows)
Is this a Mac only Bug? I ask because I can basically do what you're describing, open more than one document, and have them open in the left monitor, and none disappear. What I do is use the Studio Presets. I set it up by first selecting the Float All. Then drag/position all the panels (studios) as I want them. The main, document on my left monitor, all the other panels on my right monitor. I then choose Add Preset, and name it. I can open additional documents, and they will open with the main page in my left monitor, tabbed to my first or other documents, the other will still be there. I can choose to reset the studios, which changes everything to the default, and then choose my 2 monitor preset, and I'm back at how I set up the preset, and my documents are still there, and panels as I arranged them. Done a quick screen video of what I'm referring to. The recording not the best, my first attempt at recording both monitors... 2023-05-25 04-13-05.mp4 -
Serif stopped producing their hard cover books prior to 2.0. The best we can do is do internet searches. I've located a couple of resources with a quick search, on Amazon. The first is someone selling one of Serif's books, however since the books are scarce, it is quite pricey, double what it originally sold for. Affinity Photo Book Another is a book authored by Frank Walters, The Affinity Photo Manual

Paint 2.1: Selections not visible
Ron P. replied to Perrorist's topic in Affinity on Desktop Questions (macOS and Windows)
It seems you've applied a White Fill to the Pixel layer, located at the top of your layer stack. Did you want that layer to have a color fill? If so you need to move it to the bottom of the layer stack so the other layers can be seen. I've reconstructed your file, however did not fill the top Pixel layer. I saved the file, closed and opened it. I do not get the same as your file, ie; the color filled pixel layer. EDIT: Missed it by this much... Old Bruce beat me to it. -
Which brush? There's several that come with AP, and you can purchase numerous, as well as create your own. So stating the brush is too vague to see if it might be a specific brush or all brushes. For example the Dreamphography brushes are designed to have a size jitter. They will change sizes while stamping with them. What OS, Windows or Mac and version?

The image contains insufficient metadata ...
Ron P. replied to joe_l's topic in V2 Bugs found on Windows
I can confirm what you're seeing. This is somewhat inconsistent with what is seen when you apply say the Remove Lens Vignette. The image brightens around the edges to remove any vignette, but that does not mean it's applying it correctly. Doing the same in AP does not get the 3 warning triangles, just one. -
Single Click VS Double Click
Ron P. replied to bntbntbnt's topic in Affinity on Desktop Questions (macOS and Windows)
I wonder when they decided to remove the Allow selection.... ? I'm not sure if the Auto Select is what replaced it, but enabling it by checking the box, then choosing one of the options, Default, Objects, or Groups may get you what you need. Disabling the Auto Select, and you can not select anything on the canvas, you must use the layer stack. EDITED: FOUND IT -
RAWs always to dark
Ron P. replied to Photodummy's topic in Affinity on Desktop Questions (macOS and Windows)
I'm very familiar with EOS 70D, use one, and have since Canon released it. On your camera, go to the First Menu setting, far-left, Image Quality. It allows you to set various RAW, MRAW, SRAW, and JPEG settings of L, M, S1,S2 and S3. The camera will produce a JPEG for all images, even if you are shooting in RAW. Programs like Lightroom, are able to import RAW + JPEG, or either one. The image you see on the camera's screen is the JPEG processed with whatever Camera settings, like Picture Styles (Neutral, Portrait, Lanscape and so on). AP does not recognize those Picture Styles. Further AP provides us with the RAW image, no enhancements, unless in the Develop Assistant, you tell to apply an Exposure Bias, or Tone Curve. Windows 10 should have the Codec required to view CR2 files. You can go to Microsoft's Website and download their Raw Image Extension. Another way to get the CODEC, is to download and install Canon's DPP (Digital Photo Professional). How to Download & Install. DPP will place the codec into your system and you should be able to view the files in Windows Explorer. -
V2 Swatches Panel missing?
Ron P. replied to ANGRYMAN's topic in Affinity on Desktop Questions (macOS and Windows)
Hi @ANGRYMAN, Yes they moved the Studio menus from the View main menu to the Window menu. Look under the Window menu for all the Studio (panels). The Swatches Studio (panel) should have a check beside it. -
Zoom to Selection
Ron P. replied to Move37's topic in Affinity on Desktop Questions (macOS and Windows)
Same for me, on Windows. In fact you get different results for not only those two, but also for Zoom to Width -
Carl123 provided the best method to correct the harsh shadows. I've had to do this a few times. That lead me to pay close attention to lighting while shooting. I learned just how valuable bouncing flash, and/or using softboxes are. Learn how to, and use that will eliminate almost all of this type of retouching.

My attempt at some humor. I recently watched a lecture by an astrophysicist, he actually has 2 Phds, along with a Masters. He commented on being able to count the stars in our own galaxy. He says it's not possible, since we don't live long enough. -

Thanks for posting what you done to correct it Really Did you count them? You do realize to count to 50 Billion, it would take a very, very, long time -
When the person, intentionally, repeatedly, does what he has been told not to do, and gets the same result, then I fail to see that person as a victim. Smack your head into a brick wall, and discover it hurts, and others tell you, smacking your head into brick walls will result in pain, yet you continue to do so, are you really a victim? There's a more correct term.
