How are you opening the file? It seems that you're using some other method to open, then you're clicking on the File menu.

I used AVG Free for a long long time. I finally decided to uninstall, remove it from my system. In doing so, I learned that it caused more problems than it was worth. I think the built in Windows Defender and AVG were fighting each other. Since removing AVG (which is basically Avast, and I've tried it in the past too), my system runs much smoother.

Sorry to hear you're having problems.

What OS, and version are you using? I'm using Win10 and not seeing any sluggish responses with any of the adjustments, curves, Basic, Overlays, in the Develop Persona.

Is the image file(s) located on a local drive or external drives, like OneDrive, iCloud, NAS ?

Could you check the Preferences>Performance setting to see if you have Hardware Acceleration/OpenCL checked? It is enabled by default. If so, try disabling it and trying again to see if you're still experiencing the sluggish behavior.

[Affinity Photo 2: High Pass Filter Sharpening Inconsistency]

Welcome to the forums,

• First, are you viewing at 100% or less? Filters, effects, ect, are best viewed at 100% Zoom.
• The High-Pass Sharpening Filter should use one of the Light Blend Modes applied. Overlay, Screen, and Hard Light seem to work better. Normal Blend mode is not going to provide an accurate representation of the High Pass Filter.
• The destructive High Pass filter, has the 3 Views at the bottom of the dialog. Zoom to 100%, and use the Split View to see what the filter is doing.
• With the Live High Pass, again zoom to 100%, and then toggle the visible button in the Layers panel to see.
• The Radius amount is dependent on the resolution of your image. The higher resolution images may require a larger radius.

[Crop tool]

You are aware that once you Develop your RAW image the crop is not permanent. One new addition to AP V2 is non-destructible RAW development. In the context toolbar, to the right of Develop, Cancel, is Output. This is a drop-down menu. The default is Pixel, however there's 2 other options, Raw Layer-linked and Raw Layer-Embeded.

However the issue with cropping in the Develop persona and not being able to undo that. Yes you can undo it. You must first develop the file. Make sure you have one of the two Raw Layer options selected, NOT PIXEL. This is the old way, which bakes the settings. In the Photo persona, select the Crop tool, then way over on the right end of the context toolbar of the crop tool, there's 2 checkboxes, Darken, Reveal. Check the box for Reveal. Now you can drag out the crop boundaries to get your original image size back.

I do agree, removing the ability to change the units should not have been done. It was there in V1, in fact it's there in the last Retail version 1, 10.1.5134. For right now it is what it is, and is not worth complaining over the spilled milk. PC screens, be they Windows or Mac only understand Pixels, nothing more. So changing the units while cropping to feet, inches, miles, yards or whatever, is not going change what your pc shows you.

What is the Error given? In your videos I'm just seeing where you hover your cursor over the shapes. Are you wanting to Add, Delete, or Create new shapes from selected areas?

[V2 Backward compatibilty, e.g. open in V1 or expert to V1]

Opening working files (afphoto, afdesigner, or afpub) files created in V2 in V1 is not possible. However Exporting to whatever file format, be it jpg, png, psd, pdf, should not be a problem.

I would think the time and cost to make each successive working file, backward compatible would be prohibitive, especially for a small company like Serif. I do know of one company that has made backward saving for sometime. It is no small corporation/company, and have huge teams to handle such things. It's just not that simple to do so.

Do you drag & drop from say a browser or File Explorer? How about using the File>Place command? Using the latter, and with snapping enabled, you are shown the center of your canvas, by the red and green guides/lines.

[Publisher V2 - Still no reasonable subtract]

Do you just have Publisher? This can be done in Publisher, Designer or even Photo.

1. You need to convert your text to curves, which produces a Group.
2. Ungroup, and all the text, now curves will be selected in the Layers Panel.
3. Go to Layer>Geometry, and select Merge Curves
4. This will produce a new layer called Curves. Notice the plural.
5. Now select your rectangle and the Curves Layer.
6. Go to the Boolean Subtract Operator. This should cut out the Text Curves from the rectangle. 

Is that what you wanting to do? IF not could you provide a screen recording or possible upload a file showing what you can / can not do?

Do you still have the trial/demo AP 2.0? I'm also assuming the file in question is a afphoto file correct? If so, open that file in AP 2. Also open your AP 1 version. Now in AP 2, try grouping all the layers together. It just makes for an easier transfer. Select it and copy. Then go into the version 1, and either select File>New from Clipboard, or just paste, which on mac would be CMD + V.

It is perfectly legal, and numerous software companies use and have used this marketing strategy. They do not have to publish how long a sale runs. If you take advantage of it that's good for you. If you choose to put it off and the sale ends, well too bad, you had your opportunity.

[APh V2 - no way to see mask while painting it? Please cross check]

I'm not understanding just what you're wanting AP masking to do? Painting is not blind guesswork. You can still ALT + CLICK on the Mask thumbnail to "solo" the mask to see where you've painted.

Is this another one of those, it's not how PS does it? If so please take the time to learn AP if that's what you want to use.

Both of those actions are indicative of subscription based models. Serif uses a perpetual licensing model. Once you activate it, you're good to go, don't need to be online to use it.

Here's what Serif added that a lot of people requested, Cross-platform licensing. If you purchase the Universal License, you can install, use the Affinity Apps, on Windows, Mac and iPads. So there's 3 apps (Photo, Designer, & Publisher). Stop and think just how many that really is..

I really doubt MS Paint or PowerPoint have the ability of neuralink integration. So why is it important to have this in any of the Affinity Apps? Just wanted to complain before you've gave them a decent trial?

When will V3.0 be released? Really don't know, but I would suspect it will be about 8 yrs..

Welcome to the forums,

The warning in the upper-right tells you what Designer done. Apparently you have Greyscale set as your default profile. Just click on the Document Setup, (upper-left), then under Color tab change the Color Format to one of the RGB or CMYK.
