Welcome to the forums @User_Mark,
With Affinity Photo or Designer the process is about the same.
- Have your text selected
- Select the Fill Tool (Gradient or Vector depending on the app)
- In the Context Toolbar (at the top) open the Fill Type drop-down menu, scroll to the bottom and select Bitmap
- Navigate to the Texture file you want to use, select it.
Now once you have the Texture, color and any other FXs you want to apply:
- Right Click on the Text and choose Create Style or go to the Edit Menu, scroll to bottom and select the same Create Style.
- In the Style Panel, (View>Style if you don't see it), your newly created style will be added, and you can Rename it by right-clicking it.
For more information regarding styles check the Affinity Photo or Designer online Help..

Welcome to the forums @Gsuddeth
- What type of input device are you using? Mouse, Pen/Tablet, Touchpad?
-
Can you provide a screenshot of your Settings>Tools?
- In that tab do you have Use Scrubby Zoom enabled?
- In that tab do you have Use Mouse wheel to Zoom enabled
Also have a look at this post to see if you're running a third-party app that might be interfering

Do you have Hardware Acceleration enabled or disabled in Settings>Performance?
I have it enabled.
EDITED: (20mins later)
I've tried with H/A disabled, and the app will still hang. With H/A disabled, I've also tried with other brushes, like the pencil and can get the app to hang.

Welcome to the forums @Kelly Paul
So you're saying that Affinity Photo takes a cumulative time of over 3 hrs just in loading? Really?
-
Where are the images located?
- Local Drive, External Drive, NAS, Cloud?
- You mention taking additional time for the Develop Persona, so are you processing RAW images?
- Are you double-clicking on the file(s) in Explorer or Finder, or are you first launching AP then opening a file (s) ? Are you using drag-n-drop to open images?
- Please provide us with information about your system, GPU, CPU, OS and Version.
Loading a RAW file, from one of my external USB drives, only takes 13 secs for me, that's double-clicking on a file with AP closed. Launching and loading files from my internal drives, double-clicking on the file, ~6 secs, with AP open, only 3 secs. I don't have a very powerful system.

I was thinking having the Reopen Document setting in The Settings>General, might be blocked. However I've tested that theory, and it's not the case.

Hi @Ron P.,
So far I've not been able to replicate this. I've made well over 200 brush strokes using my Wacom and everything seems fine so far. I was using a different brush as i don't seem to have the Fur & Hair vector brush, so i used one of the oil brushes.
Can you let me know where you got the Fur & Hair vector brush from and I'll try installing that and see if I can replicate this.
I got them in our Sharing Resources Forum

On1 has closed the user to user forum which I think is a dumb move. On1 comms were never brilliant but I do like their software. Looks like facepage will be the main source for fast help.
Seems to be the trend. Alludo, which purchased Corel, just closed down their digital media, user to user forum. This forum had been running for the past 20+ yrs. A couple of the admins of the old user forum, got together and put up a similar help forum, for those that use Paintshop Pro, and VideoStudio. Rumor says VideoStudio may be at the end.

@panhors, Try adding the Luminosity Range Mask to the Adjustment Layer(HSL), instead of adding the Adjustment Layer (HSL) to the Luminosity Range Mask. In other words, nest the Luminosity Range Mask inside the Adjustment Layer.
@kat, I don't know what you've got going on. It seems like you have masks, nested inside of yet other masks. Just a little above my head. I try to keep things, like using masks, simple. Someone with more experience should be able to help you...
Affinity Photo Official Tutorial on Luminosity Range Mask. I think the Spotlight one is somewhat more advanced...

Sorry, I'm not seeing this behavior. Following @design punch recipe, the document closes as it should, not the Explorer window.

You could compress the files to .7z, .zip or .rar.
I realize that, and have been working on that, using the various compression settings in 7zip. I managed to zip one file down to about 316MB. Still going to take a long time to upload. My internet is 10 down and 1 up. Suppose to be 3Mbs, but I've yet to see it. DSL, through about the worse company around.
I've tried to get them uploaded, but keep getting an
exceptional handle error,the upload fails. It's a Server Error -200. -
While trying to replicate another user's brush lag found HERE, I managed to get Designer to hang/Unresponsive. I pulled up Task Manger and noticed the CPU was spiked along with very high power usage. After waiting about 10 min for the app to become responsive I killed it.
I restarted Designer, and received the unsaved document notice, choose to open it. All the curve layers were intact. I deleted all of them to start new, and proceeded in an attempt to replicate the hang. Sure enough, after a short time the app hung again. Had to kill it through task manager. I created another dump file before killing it.
- Wacom Intuos 3. PTZ 431-W
- Document Size : 5472px X 3648px
-
Using the Fur & Hair vector brush
- W: 279px, Opacity: 100%, Stabilizer: Rope mode, Size: 23
It took about 120 brush strokes for the app to hang.
While I do have 2 Dump files, I don't know how I can upload them. They're 3 GB ea, and my upload speed is considered a dinosaur by today's standards. It would probably take the better part of 3-4 hours to upload just one of them.

I think that's by design. The F1 shortcut seems to be reserved for Designer Help. When you changed it from the default period or decimal point (.), you should have a yellow warning triangle telling you it's for the Help.

The recent update to 2.4.1 broke Affinity Photo on my PC. How can I go back to 2.4.0?
Can you elaborate on what broke? We might be able to help you get it running.
