Thanks Alfred - got that now, just coming back to have another crack at this after a week away, yes last week I was getting results as seen on the lower curve of your sketch, I see what I need to do now,

The problem here is that @andrew 99 needs to place both end nodes outside of the canvas, above the top of the card, to make that straight line sit above the canvas so that the top portion is completely filled.

With your curve selected you should find a fill box towards the top left hand side of the app

In this sort of thing you need a shape and a curve,
I used the rectangle tool to make the shape, converted it to curves (Layer > Convert to Curves) and used the Node tool to reshape it. I left the edges showing so you can see what I did
When you're ready, cover the edge of the shape with the curve.
